Ferrari 550 GTS Maranello Prodrive: Aggressive Warm Up & Pure V12 Sound on Track!

- Опубліковано 23 сер 2024
- As I told you in the previous video dedicated to this 550 GTS with on board footage, I'm now uploading a second video but with just its sound recorded from the outside, with a very loud and aggressive warm up and scenes taken around the Red Bull Ring during the 2020 Challenge & GT Days, a track day mainly for Ferrari GTs and Challenge race cars. The 550 GTS Prodrive in this video is chassis 117110 and it was built in 2004 ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans of the same year, where it managed to finish in 4th place of the GTS class. It was then raced until 2008 in various FIA GT and ALMS rounds. The car, as some other 550 GTS, is now managed by Legend Racing Service ( / legendracingservice ).
Ferrari didn't intend to start a program for the development and construction of a 550 Maranello competition model as it was totally concentrated on the Formula 1 championship and maybe they weren't even confident on their car's potential. Luckily, there were people that did believe the 550 could have been a great racing car. 3 years later its debut, several teams tried to develop a 550 race car but not successfully. Things changed when Frédéric Dor's company Care Racing Development commissioned the development of a 550 based race car to Prodrive in order to be raced in the major GT series and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Initially known as 550 GTO (then renamed 550 GTS) of which a total of ten cars would be built over the next four years and campaigned by the Prodrive team as well as privateer customers. These 550 GTO/GTS were entirely built by Prodrive without any support from the Ferrari factory.
The engine was a heavily modified version of the street legal 550 Maranello, but increased in displacement from 5.5 to 6.0-liter, linked to a a six-speed XTrac sequential gearbox. The car is producing around 600hp with mandatory intake restrictors. Compared with the road car, Prodrive managed to shave off around 550 kg to ensure the GT1 racer met the 1100 kg minimum weight set for the class.

People say we live in the golden era of GT3 racing and we do. But old race cars just have something brutal and wild about them, that modern GT3 cars don't have
I wholeheartly agree. It tough to say what really causes this. But then again, a modern GT3 car often runs a pretty much stock and de-tuned engine, whereas these old GT1 beasts needed a lot of engine tuning to get to their 600-650 hp.
I saw a Prodrive 550 like this at the 02' Grand Prix of DC, I feel sad I won't be able to take my kids to see cars like that racing.
I don't think that ferrari had mufflers on the exhaust, where as modern race cars are required to have them, so it's a loud boi.
Actually among the current range of racing cars GT3s provide some of the best sounds, especially when compared to F1 and FE, which is the future - however, newer GT3s like the M6 do not, and I'm afraid that in a couple of years the Lambo/Audi V10 and the AMG V8 will be gone and their sound with them...enjoy it while it lasts!
@@DE_JOTT Think back to the good ol' GT1 times with the roaring Corvettes and the screaming Ferraris and Maseratis. Man those would send shivers down my spine. Then in the late 00's, early 10s when the Z4 GT3 hit the stage, together with the R8s, Gallardos and SLS AMGs. Man when I heard that Z4 GT3 the first time. Those downshifts where downright porn. I mean we still have the R8s and the Huracans and the AMG GT3s, but as you said it's gradually declining
Man I'm a bit disappointed that I missed the GT1 era, but I'm glad to see these monsters still out on the track! Awesome video Bozzy.
Thanks dude! Yeah, still the same here on my side. I started my youtube adventure when GT1s were still around and testing often at Monza too, but back in those days I was more into supercars/street legal car than motorsport and racing. You can't understand how much I am regretting it in these years :'(
@@19Bozzy92 we all get older mate. The few times my dad took me to F1 races I couldn't care less about the races around it, now I love Porsche Cup racing and would do anything to go back to those pre-f1 events to listen to those 993's fly past.
I think we all have missed opportunities along those lines lol. Stubborn humans we are.
Make racecars sound good again!
some still sounds good,i think racecars that used in races under the fia have worse sounds because ya know, restrictions, rules, etc etc
Oh shut up
That new lambo race car sounds fucking phenomenal
It used to be racing was all about driving your car as fast as possible. Now it has become driving aa effeciently as possible with races decided sometimes on fuel stops. Manufacturers can still produce dominating, world beating sports cars that are capable of incredie things but they are slowed down by regulations. Porsches 919 is an example of this. Unrestrained by rules it is an astonishing machine, but regulations to do with fuel effeciency and safety mean most racing machines have had their wings firmly clipped. Its gone a little too far in the wrong direction in my opnion. Ok so we do not want to see fatalities like we had in the 70s and 80s, but racing has to have some element of risk, right now its a bit more like wrestling its almost acted out on the track with the script written by balance of performance. Not great for the fans!
Listen to C8R & 911 RSR
Probably the best looking racing car EVER!
absolutely
Nah its huracan super trofeo

Most sexy and best sounding GT1 car of all time ❤
Screaming V12 is pure eargasm ❤
That sounds pure Maranello Magic❤
It doesn’t sound as good, but I think you’ll find that it should be “Banbury Magic” as Prodrive did the aero and tuning RnD on this 550.
Definitely my favorite Ferrari GT car that ever actually raced. Also probably has the most interesting origin since it wasn't even developed by Ferrari. Plus when you consider that the 550 GTS did better than the Ferrari developed 575 GTC which was basically a copy of the Prodrive 550 with slightly different body work, this car starts to look even more impressive.
Italtecnica.
One of the best sounding GT1 cars ever. I love this beast. Thanks Bozzy 👍
You're welcome Jared. Thanks as usual for your comments
@@19Bozzy92 no problem. U post amazing content and I love it. Keep it up 👍
Absolutely the best content of it's kind on the internet! This gentleman obviously does this for a living.....fantastic!
0:00 Anyone notice how car smiling?Cute!
1:35 I can hardly believe this car have V12 instead of V16 so much space:)
Also that sound is soo good!
the engine is mounted far back as possible to move weight distribution rearwards and make the car more balanced and responsive, it's not just excess space to put more cylinders lmao
@@AriesUmbra I know that but i just pointing how much space is left...Lmao..
@@joe125ful ikrrr it's so mid engined
@@AriesUmbra Mid engined with engine in front area..well..
@thomas Schumacher I know it exist but called this Mid engine dont make sense..
I understand that in raer engine but not in front engine type.
The surrounding couldn’t have been chosen better for this Beast! Up and down shifting noise is unbelievable!
My god, that downshift into turn4 is just amazing.
Again, I visit this video temple. Love this filming.
Now THAT is what you call a "Prancing Horse."

550 GTS and C6R are my all time favorite GT1 cars
For me, one of _the_ sexiest Ferrari's ever built. It's just a thing of savage beauty
Love this car, love this video, years later.

Stunning car
Saw them, racing in anger, at Road Atlanta.. crazy to think they were racing C5Rs, the Ferrari looks so much more modern than that.. oh, the perceptions of time.
Both this and the aston dbr9 are my favorites
that sound tho
It sounds like he could go double the rpm but still sound incredible
Awesome as usual. Please consider upgrading to 4K video equipment.

Didnt you have a 550 hill climb video? I think 😨😨
Grazie tuti fruity
Glad you appreciated it! No unfortunately I've never recorded and seen that particular 550, famous for taking part in some Italian hillclimb years ago :(
That would be so much fun to drive
Mamá mía . Is fast!!!
And then they say that something brutal cannot be beautiful 😁😍

You need to take that damn Union Jack, off that!
now it's time for the 575 videos !

@19Bozzy92 Congrats, you are a Pro on Camera!!! Thanx a lot!!! Stay tuned!
Thanks a lot for the kind comment
Can somebody explain me why do high performance race cars always rev their engine repetitively and aggressively in the paddocks ? Is it a warming procedure ? Doesn't that damage the cold engine ? Thanks :)
The engine is already warmed up when they do that it. So it doesn't hurt the engine. The driver is just making sure the throttle is responsive before he or she takes it on the track.
Ciao Bozzy, ci siamo incontrati ad Imola qualche volte. Sono l'Americano, un tifoso grande. Bella video come sempre.
V12 the best sound, end of the turbos v6 please 😂
What was the warm up time? Does it depend on the car?
It is good looking, but another Prodrive car, AM DBR9 was similarly pretty.
What is wrong with the 7 people who disliked this video? Was a red car mean to you as a kid?
E niente......sti cazzi!!

Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria.
2:33 why lot of mécha push they cars??
IT'S not only one to do that...
🤦
To prevent the clutch from burning out, these cars do rolling starts not standing starts
Is this the one Colin Mcrae drove?
No, the #66 Prodrive Ferrari was driven by Alain Menu, Tomas Enge & Peter Kox with the green windscreen strip because Colin McRae's car has the blue windscreen strip
@@F1Kamel_1992 Thanks for your information. I knew he drove a 550 at some point. Cheers 👍
Same some decibels for the rest of us 💀

GT1...
Horse power?🤔🤔
Just over 600 bhp in the racing version whereas the road-going 550 Maranello produces 484 bhp.
ultima bella Ferrari prodotta ; cambio manuale con griglia di inserimento delle marce. una Ferrari deve essere pilotata non può finire in mano a fighetti da bar solo perchè hanno la capacità economica per comprarla.
Car manufacturers used to build cars to compete. now they just build cars. Unless you're paying over 100k you're not getting anything special. Every car looks the same and don't even get me started on Evs. The death of fun. If you make cars silent you kill a sport
Completely not well in the head
Look how far back the engine is. Silhouette race car.
No, it was GTS
It sounds awful. Braaap...braaap...like a fart-canned Honda civic.
