Random tinfoil theory: If the Traveller is restored by Ghosts returning to it in death, is it possible the Lucent Brood were created in effort to expedite that process? It's true that some unpaired Ghosts still take to field work, but largely they spend time searching for a partner or helping out in other ways around the City.
With the Lucent Brood, a whole new subsect of these Ghosts are now out in the field, doing battle. Now they have a chance of fighting and dying themselves, or even engaging with Sol Guardians and potentially killing another Ghost and returning it to the Traveller.
Whether it was a manipulation by Savathun or a direct action taken by the Traveller, with the Witness bearing down, we were all considering drastic measures.

A very interesting theory! Definitely within the realm of possibility, and the conflict between us and Hive Lightbearers does help it given that one way or another a Ghost is likely getting crushed.
Could have been a move of desperation from the Traveler, as Micah said: "The Traveler is not always fair; it is not always right."
Although, as we'll cover in another episode soon, Mithrax's vision makes him feel that the Traveler feels "love" towards Savathun, so could just be coincidental.

The traveler is not always fair and does make its fair share of mistakes. But I think the Gardener at this point has a flawed outlook because of her insistence of refusing to reunite with the Veil.
She’s a bit arrogant really. Like the Winnower, she’s focused on the greater flower game, in proving her point about complexity and diversity of life. But in doing so, being so focused on its personal vendetta against the Winnower, I think perhaps the gardener is looking past the truth, that the universe out of balance.
