    Straight and to the point, with solid and helpful info.......... Geez, I thought that kind of thing was nearly dead here on the internet. Thanks for keeping it real, simple, clear, and functional. Stuff like this has me seriously considering moving back to Louisiana; and every other great "sporting" state I used to live in. LOL!!!

    Lewis Quarles was my grandad. We invented this trap and I helped him build them by hand in the 80’s. This is amazing I never knew it was known as the Quarles trap omg this is awesome

      Wow! Small world! I have to tell you - the Quarles trap is by far the most effective turtle trap I have ever used. Bar none! They are expensive - but worth it. They are now selling for $125 + about $40 shipping. snareone.com/turtle.html

      The Meat Trapper it’s crazy he died on 2001 and I never trapped again. He was good man. Shot down in ww2 twice. Lived on eastern shore Maryland in snow hill. I was his only grandchild. He was my dad because I didn’t have one. Had a 20 gauge in my hands by time I was 5. Squirrel hunting. Deer hunting. Trapping fox coon beaver muskrat turtle frog giggin. He was the best. I was really taken back that people are using something that me n him created in the backyard out of necessity 👍👍👍👍

      The Meat Trapper 125 is expensive. But I’m not sure who is making them now. But when it was just me and him in the hot summer sun, I was cutting the wire rolls messing up my lil hands. Counting out the knots on the net so they came out perfectly round. Hands cramped from all those hog nose rings. Brings back great memories👍👍👍

      Billy Skinner buy some 2inch*4inch fencing. make it round and zip tie or wire together. or even hog clamps work better. then get a net like a landing net just the net now and tie it to one end. then cut the center and use 2 strings to pull it into the trap to make your funal. and on the back just close it up

    Decent sized snapper there Tim! We're not allowed to use those cage-type traps here in Kentucky. I too use the old hook-n-line attached to a stout, springy tree limb. (You mentioned that in one of the replies below.) I liked your sponge idea. Boy, those snappers are in my top 5, as far as a favorite wild game and/or fish that I've eaten! Take care buddy!

    Here in Arkansas, in order to target ANY aquatic turtle I have to purchase a fishing license (10.50$), a commercial fishing license (35$), and an "aquatic turtle permit" (125$). Is that not RIDICULOUS?

    • @ashanderson1555

    • @muthafuhcka
      @muthafuhcka 5 років тому

      Can have 3 in possession per licensed fisherman here in MN ..... but that is only if caught by attended fishing line, dip net, or by hand from the road...... if using a trap- still can have 3 in possession , still need a fishing license ($26) + extra recreational turtle license ($25) , aquatic invasive species infested waterways tag ($0) & a 3rd tag with name, address & license number visible from the top of the trap. Putting mine out today.

    We can't take snapping turtles (smooth shell or alligator) ever here myfwc.com/wildlifehabitats/managed/freshwater-turtles/ . In Florida we can take freshwater turtles by hand, dip net, minnow seine or baited hook, but taking turtles with bucket traps, snares, or shooting with firearms is prohibited (they sure don't make it easy). But you can take some pretty big sliders with a baited hook and bobber.
    I have eaten a Loggerhead Sea turtle many years ago when was young and it was still legal (about 50 years ago), it was really good. So I am going to try a slider the next time I go fishing, thanks for the tutorial. Eating wild beats Red-Slimed GMO any day!

    Are there any regulations that address turtle trapping (season, catch limits, size requirements etc). Just wondering because it would be pretty easy to wipe out a local population without proper management. Thanks
