It does work for smaller turtles. The trigger system on this trap can be adjusted for very light setting (smaller turtles and anything else that bumps it) or set heavy for catching only larger turtles.
Few people know that these old snappers are now thought to live from 150-200 years. This old guy probably lived through the civil war. Age estimates have been based mainly on the fact that they have been trapped and found to have been shot with muzzle loaders and th balls were scarred over under their shells.
Nice! I am afraid our snapper is going to get my dogs because they aren't respecting the turtle's space. I've been trying to trap with one of these traps but I might be using the wrong bait and might be putting the trap on the wrong location. I've got sardines, too.... I'm going to give this a try now!
Please come clear my pond of snappers. They have killed me ducks that I raised from eggs. They have killed 3 ducks this week. Please help. My heart is broken.
I asked a DEC official how to get rid of snapping turtles. I expected a long, drawn-out explanation. He just looked at me and said: "12 gauge slug". Yup. That'll do it.
as a survivalist you need to practice such skills when done right they can be eaten just like dear wild bore bear wolf its the dawn of time complex hunting season starts in my state in September looking for word to some jerky and a new hide to tan man can not live on salad alone

If you have a 50lb eating trophy trout do you allow that also to feed his hunger and desire to kill?

Great video! Glad to see people relocate a snapper instead of killing it!
We kill them for fun
