Hell yes! Stuff like this is my favorite part of this channel. Like you said, old not vintage. Obscure stuff I might not have known about. keep it up man. This is honestly my favorite pedal channel.

I have deep DEEP nostalgia for clacking plastic Zoom footswitches in my basement with my like 15W Marshall combo amp cranked to 10

First time I’ve ever seen a multi step sequencer used for something other than just making weird noises. Great video as always.

Thank you! I had a Zoom 9150 and the Step effect on there was definitely something I would just hit with a bunch of distortion and pretend I was in Stabbing Westward. This one seems to have a bit more something to it.

Still liking the modulations coming out of this specific pedal along with the 707's and the likes. It really gets the job done for me.

I remember this. I went with the Digitech RP-6 and had no clue what I was doing! LOL.
You may have inspired me to revisit Zoom. Thank you

There's some nice sounds in these wee boxes. I had an Alessis Guitar-FX multi fx pedal. Made of plastic and cheap as chips, but has one of the best shoegaze reverse reverb sounds I've tried. (PS I'm particulary digging the demo jam this week!!)

Very good idea to shed light on those humble machines!❤ With a true bypass looper they can totaly do the job for specific purposes.
Not always mandatory to mortgage your house for a strymon or H9 for 5 min of chorus in the set...

Thank you! And well-said. I think having this around, with a post-it note to remind you of where the good presets are would suffice for a lot of applications.

Lots of cool sounds - that Deep Rotor sound is amazing! Wasn't around for these but had a Digitech RP90 when I was a teenager, similar kind of deal but had an expression pedal. The amp sims probably wouldn't hold up but had a lot of fun with the modulation effects, using the expression pedal on the rate of a flanger was fun and there was a weird, niche "Ya-Ya" effect that was kind of like a wah/talk-box. Think that was $150 CAD new? Too scared to look and see what one costs now 😅

There's a pedal i want to see, the Marshall Supervibe chorus.
It's a great one for me but there's almost no video about it.
But with all the chorus you already have i'm not sure it's really necessary yet my favorite chorus.

I used to have a Zoom multi-pedal and I used to fart around with it but I was new to guitar at that time and felt like I was only making weird noises without actually really learning to play and make music, so I sold it... and then went the next 20 or so years with only a DD-5, and that's it. Now that I've learned (a bit) to play this thing (again, sort of) I've gone pedal crayzee. It's... pretty ridiculous, now... But thank you, Zoom, for helping me to understand that magic before I was a second rate magician.

I had the 505, I bought it for the pitch shifter but it was a jack of all trades & pretty cool. I sold it as I wasn't using it but this one seems more interesting. BTW, get that ART stuff on the go.

this was incredibly fun to absorb. and that dedicated input to pitch detection? pure sexaaaay
i would LOVE to learn about your ART stuff. my deepest delve into their line was to pair their massive midi footswitcher to my Peavey ProFex. goodness gracious!

I've had bandmates who had Zoom effects and I've never vibed with them (the effects, not the bandmates). You did a nice job extracting good tones from this one.

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  5 місяців тому

Thanks! Yeah, I've been burned by Zoom stuff in the past, maybe I just expected something different. They had a multi-effects pedal with an expression pedal that twisted, as well as went up and down. I thought that was cool, but then I saw how stupid I looked using it, and it promptly went on eBay.

ive been wanting to recommend one for a few months now. i would love to see it get the SB.....B. it's the Way Huge Fat Sandwich. i think it's a Rat, DS-1ish concoction by Jorge Tripps. one of my favorite pedals. and weirdly has clairty at high gain in my opinion.

My memories are hazy and I sold mine some 20 years ago, but if I remember correctly this thing had a horrible signal lag, which made playing through it a horrible chore.

Great video. Other companies were doing stuff like this, but this one still sounds like a relevant pedal and useable. I remember back then the Digitech that looked just like that - it was a joke. My friends were embarrassing themselves onstage with it because it would go crazy with oscillation, in one case blowing a speaker. The Zoom stuff always seemed to work fine. I think it would only sound dated if somebody simply looks for retro sounds. I may buy one right now. BTW how about power consumption; many ma does it draw? Thanks.

    • @StompboxBreakdown

Thank you. I love the idea of preserving the survivors, just like how Redwood shined a light on some amazing "Rad"-era vehicles. No idea on power consumption, I just plugged it into a regular 9v power brick and it worked, so it must not be too too crazy

Perhaps for recording purposes, but there's no way for using them in a modern live situation.
I could only see using an old multi-box as a single loop in a system set-up where you have several loops available.
These types of units are generally unusable toys.
