Just picked up a rust free completely stock 2001 Sahara automatic with 103k miles for $7k. Came with both hard and soft top, Can’t wait to start with simple mods. I’d like to keep it as stock as I can. Maybe just a 2inch lift with a little bigger tires.
Nice, that's an excellent spec for your Jeep. I grew up going to the beach there, awesome park. I grew up and still live in Bergen County, but that's where we would vacation. In 2000 my parents bought a shore house in Brigantine. We can take 4x4s on the beach there as well. I bought my 4x4 pass for the 2020 season, but due to covid, I was never able to go down there and use it as my parents retired down there and I didn't want to possibly get them sick as they are considered high risk due to age. Hopefully we can enjoy it this year!
Beautiful TJ. Is the color of it Gunmetal Pearl? I have a '98 with that color and it's by far the coolest color for a Jeep ever. It's just like the TJ- a timeless classic.
I'm not sure how much heat you're getting from the engine, make sure your catalytic converters connected to the exhaust manifold aren't burning up. I had this issue and it's really easy to miss.
Well I don’t believe I ever had that issue and I basically lived under that car when I was fixing it up. That Jeep has since been sold but I’m looking for another TJ and will look out for that. Thanks!
What about day to day? I'm looking at a 98 TJ as a daily. Main concern is it's gonna cost a bomb. Coming from a 2017 BMW hybrid it's a huge change, but I did own a 2007 JK and massively regret selling it. I'm in Ireland where they're extremely rare, so it's slim pickings for the used market, currently only one TJ for sale in the country. But basically, how is it as a daily? Economy as bad as it seems?
You're looking for one in Ireland? That's awesome! I think if you want a TJ as a daily, you have to manage your expectations and I think the decision to go with one depends on a few factors. Are you driving it on local/country roads or highway driving? Will you have a soft top or a hard top? Is it lifted or at stock height. If you are mostly on local/country roads and you have a hard top (at least for the winter), I say go for it. When my soft top is on, it gets a lot of wind noise at highway speeds, which is annoying to listen to. Although mine drives great on highways, it won't nearly feel as stable or confident at high speeds compared to your previous two cars. Which is even more of a challenge if you lift it. So you might be disappointed having previously owned a newer JK. The TJ is more pure and gritty in every sense which I love, but I don't daily it. However, for the 15 miles I drive it at one time, especially on a nice day, I don't think much can beat it! And yes, the fuel economy isn't great. That's to be expected and something you have to be OK with ahead of time. If they are that rare by you, sounds like a decent investment and you will get all of the smiles and thumbs up when people see you drive it.
I own a 97 TJ in the south of England. It's my daily driver, I guess gas is just as expensive in Ireland. If I cruise for a long time at 65mph on the freeway I get around 23 24 mpg (UK gallons are 4.55L US are 3.78L), stuck in traffic I get about 12mpg. Service parts like, plugs, oil filter, brakes etc are easy to get and are cheap, anything else you'll have to import which after shipping and tax is no longer cheap. There are loads on ebay or autotrader but expect to pay at least 8000GBP to 9000GBP for a reasonably decent one. Mine is lifted 4" and I have 32" tires, its a soft-top, but the soft-top is new and thicker than the original which is super nice as its quieter.
Great video. Would love to see you do a video on driving around with your windshield down and the top off? (obviously in a safe place where it is legal) I have a 99 TJ 2.5L 5 Speed Manual, with a soft top and a little over 130k miles. I know it's not the awesome 4L that you have but I still love it. Looking forward to more interesting videos from you.
Thanks for watching and the recommendation! I do have a video planned on taking as much off the Jeep as possible, in order to get the most open air experience possible!

My TJ is a 1997 automatic 2.5 4 cyl bought for $3,000. Rust free frame surprisingly.

Looks like you got a good deal if it has the inline 6. I would only run a two inch lift if I had to do it over again.
@@uknowhim21 that’s exactly what I’m going to do. I just added some 31 inch bfgoodrcih ko2. I want it to look stock with a little extra beef
The TJ is peak Wrangler.
I agree completely!
I agree with everything you said. Love my 02 TJ Sahara. It is by far the best and most fun and versitile vehicle I've ever owned.
Yah I love the Sahara, still looking for one.
Tj's are going for $14k now! I have a 98 just turned 100k miles.
I know it's insane!
Found myself an 04 rubicon and being in Canada one with minimal rust our hard to come by I paid 12k cad for mine with 120,000km will never sell it 😎
Great video, What’s is the difference in price between a 4Cyl and a 6cyl assuming that the condition is similar. Thank you for any advice.
I got an 05 wrangler 4.0L, 6 speed. I’m also a Jersey guy an can’t wait to drive the Jeep on Island State Beach Park

Hey Shanon! Yup Gunmetal Pearl. Awesome color. It really makes it look modern, but also super classic.

Don't! haha
"Love these engines, so reliable, not going to leave you stranded on the side of the road.".....check engine light
Haha yah but it wasn’t engine related technically.
