So pumped for this... My local which has sadly closed down after going there for 20yrs 🥲, used to serve it. Smoked Shredded chilli chicken (or crack chicken to me and my bro.. lol). It is one of those dishes which is impossible to find a proper recipe for and despite knowing the chef at the local super well he would never divulge his secret..

Smoked paprika in a Chinese dish?!?! Who’d have thought? Gonna try this, because I love smoked paprika. I use it a lot.
A quick two questions, if I may, about the red food dye and sugar you use. When I visited my local oriental supermarket (Cheerful Links, Stoke-on-Trent. Big shout out! Amazing shop 👍) they only sell the stuff in a huge red plastic bottle.... I’m guessing it was about half a litre, and I think it was around 12-ish quid. And to be honest, there’s no way I’m gonna spend that amount on something that I know I will never use, well not in my lifetime anyway! So tell me is the red food colouring available from Tesco’s baking section any good? Also what is the best everyday sugar could I use instead of the stuff you use?
    Many thanks.

Nice. Yeah this is a very common dish around me in South London and one I order a lot. It’s usually called Smoked Shredded Chicken and I generally see the chicken in smaller/thinner strips than in your recipe here, and usually just with onion and a bit of chilli - not seen green pepper in it before.
Thanks for the recipe. Looks amazing.

Yh, I'm from there. Is always in the starters. I used to order it a lot. This one place close put too much sugar on top though, and ruined the dish, and have sort of gone off getting it since then. Definitely better without the extra sugar on top.

Nice recipe ! I know it won't taste the same and won't be as crispy, but is there a version that can be made in the oven , air-fryer or similar ? Deep frying is always a bit of a hassle at home.

I add my chicken to a big plastic food bag containing the flour and give it a good shake. It saves getting any goo on your hands.

No sorry, its not the cost as we charge the customer, but its the codes, so every item needs a code, and to pack a £40 order that we'd make £4-5 on, would take some one over an hour to do do, so that £9 per hour, we're now down £4. before customs forms was easy,

Just a tip when I flour my chicken I put the ingredients into a large freezer bag and then I place the chicken in the freezer bag & blow a little air into the bag to inflate it like a balloon & then shake the bag & the contents get covered & you have clean hands
You can only do this for home cooking as I don’t know what the food standards would think of you blowing in to a bag
