Nice review. I've been playing this game off and on for nearly 20 years. It's the whole reason the survival game genre is my favorite - there are many good ones out there, but as you pointed out, they're streamlined and focused on filling meters. The satisfaction of getting yourself set up in this one is like nothing else.

Well, so far, I've gotta say I found this game rather intuitive! I started with the tutorial scenario and all that, and already made a makeshift shelter, been living off fishing and built some javelins, prepping up to do my first hunt. Slowly advancing, but definetly never stopped to a halt as I need to learn anything, so it's going quite well! I guess my expierence playing C:DDA and DF has made me more adaptive to this kind of games? altrough personally I think it's the fact that this is a realistic game, I can just apply real logic to figure out what I gotta do.
C:DDA almost certainly helps. I'm listening to this review and so much of the controls and movement remind me of it. Especially when he's talking about how 'T' can change meanings based on case including 'T' taking off equipment which is also the default in C:DDA.

_DAMN._ The effort added to the animation makes this video so unique and original compared to the usual _“game review.”_ It definitely adds that sense of originality that most videos of this genre lack. *Awesome!*
I've actually been playing a ton of this game lately and it has been a ton of fun. Took me some time to get used to it, and I do have a sheet of paper with all the controls mapped onto it for ease of use, but once you get past that, and the super simplistic graphics, it is an awesome game.

"-nen" endings are pretty common in Finnish family names. Also "-la" and "-lä" endings are typical. As a person who peaks Finnish as my first language I find them to have some sort of meaning I cannot explain in English.
@@fraktaalimuoto it's ok, as a F1/Mika Hakkinen fan I understand. You Finns put a lot of thought into a small response that actually has a lot of meaning inside
@@fraktaalimuoto I always tell people to think of the -nen ending as being halfway between a proper English surname (e.g. Smith) and that same surname with an -ish suffix. Thus Häkkinen would be similar to "Cagey" or "Cageish". The -la ending I typically explain as functioning in a similar vein but being a locational ending. It's not perfect, but it's close enough for casual conversations.
@@fraktaalimuoto It's even harder, I believe, to properly translate it, as Finnish is one of the rare languages in Europe not descended from the Indo-European tribes; unlike the Finn's neighbours who shares some Germanic-based roots, the Finnish language is Uralic-based. Thus, some grammatical concept is totally unique to the region, and hard to translate into English. Trivia: due to this JR Tolkien used Finnish as the basis for the high elven languages in LOTR; Quenya
What I love about this channel is most of these games I will never try to play but I am super curious about and happy someone one else played it for me. You're doing the lord's work, keep it up!

Those photos of the bus stops were highly educational.
About the same in Norway.
Glad you did this one. A game that deserves some attention and hopefully this will drive some interest. UnReal World has been in my top 3 or 4 'roguelike' type games forever. I'm not always playing it, but it's in the rotation I always go back to.
That animated segment was so unexpected and so pretty
Ah, I remember this game from when I was a kid who just never understood these! Thanks for bringing it back to my now grown up psyche!
Thank you once more, Mandalore the Gamer!
Also, great animation sequences there. Hope it actually won some animation awards somewhere, not gonna lie.
Me: “This animation can’t get any better.”
*Gondola appears sitting on the wood”
Me: “The Minecraft of sex, I tell you.”
This is the greatest thing I've ever read. I'll never forget you man.
Where's he at? I could find the little dude :(
Green Spleen Submarine 3:48 left side of the frame on top of the log pile (inside the cabin not outside).
That animation was amazing and almost overshadowed the rest of the review, You, Extellus and SirMeowMusic are amazing.
So when is the mandalore gaming cartoon coming out ?
I want this now. An adventure Mandalore Game. With Limbo of the Lost references all the time.
_DAMN._ The effort added to the animation makes this video so unique and original compared to the usual _“game review.”_
It definitely adds that sense of originality that most videos of this genre lack.
*Awesome!*
I've actually been playing a ton of this game lately and it has been a ton of fun. Took me some time to get used to it, and I do have a sheet of paper with all the controls mapped onto it for ease of use, but once you get past that, and the super simplistic graphics, it is an awesome game.
I've seen a couple of your videos before. I'm usually hesitant to hit the subscribe button because, well, if I did that for every youtuber I watch my sub box would be a clusterfuck. But when I saw the well made animation section I had to subscribe. You are a stand out youtuber
*My brain when I saw the cultures ending in nen"
Oh so that's why Hakkinen and Raikkonen came to be......
They were the only cultures smart enough to settle too far inland for player characters to bother about hunting down/shipkilling via raft loaded with Oath of Iron Javelins
Trivia: due to this JR Tolkien used Finnish as the basis for the high elven languages in LOTR; Quenya
that animated section at the start was adorable :3 u sir are awesome !
When you said that you were going to do a video on a finnish game, this one was the last one I expected.
What I love about this channel is most of these games I will never try to play but I am super curious about and happy someone one else played it for me.
You're doing the lord's work, keep it up!
9:34 after spending the previous 9 minutes looking at that game and treating my eyes with that game graphics, then suddenly minecraft gameplay clip appeared made my brain stimulated something that made me had a thought that minecraft is the most beautiful game ever made for a few seconds before my brain start working normally.
Dude, your reviews and production value is getting so fucking good. Keep up the constant improvement, you are fuckin' killin it.
Don't trust this guy, he blew up a sbarro's in 2007, my 3 sons were killed in the explosion.
Wait Mandalore is Samir Haid?
He can't keep getting away with it!
Sbarro's is trash, and your sons deserve it for eating there.
Unless you're stuck in an airport, there is no excuse for eating at a sbarro's.
Cease with this slander.
There is no evidence linking the alleged "extremist" Samir Hyade Mandalori Tzeentach to any such "isolated incidents".
Is this an Anthony Fantano comment? lol
Real props to the guy that did the animated bit was so well done , and the gag was great too
Instantly recognized the stronghold music at 6:00
God I love your videos. No idea what most of these games are but the way you review them is just entertaining as hell.
I was just waiting for a Gondola to be hidden somewhere and I wasn't disappointed.
The track from Bug's Life for the PS1 in the outro awakened emotions I thought I wasn't capable of feeling anymore
I'm going to get really into this if I ever lose all function in my legs.
Awesome seeing you do a video on this game, I feel like it can always do with more love.
