What if Farmer Turnbull figured out the real reason why land is being preserved? That one day humans won't be a allowed outside of cities without special permission. Heartbreaking! This victim was not just doing his job, he was a warrior for mother earth. The narrator talked about how much money destroying the native trees would make. The perpetrator was already wealthy, it appears he was also greedy, with authority issues and unaware that native forests are a priceless necessity to a healthy ecosystem. Of course the perpetrator would not care about the environment since he had no respect for the life of this brave father and husband.

The Killer died in jail. A farmer who gunned down a NSW environment officer during a protracted and terrifying ordeal has been jailed for at least 24 years. Glen Turner had been shot three times by 78-year-old farmer Ian Turnbull - a man hellbent on revenge, and who died in prison.
“He shot an innocent man, twice,” Robert, the only witness to the murderous 20-minute game of cat-and-mouse Turnbull played with the pair, and was shown on Sunday Night program.
Ian Turnbull, then 81, used a hunting rifle to murder Glen Turner, 51, who was on public land with a colleague on July 29, 2014, near the farmer’s property at Croppa Creek in the NSW’s north. The murder prosecution and legal proceedings in the Land and Environment Court for alleged illegal land clearing had put his family under immense financial pressure, and took aim at the Native Vegetation Act. By the time Turnbull had been fined $140,000 plus costs over the illegal clearing in 2011, Glen had become, in his mind, his nemesis, the focus of a hate bordering on obsession.

Sad, sad and it shows how insufficient the means of the justice system are. The Turnbull family have partly achieved what they wanted. I think a sentence such as: "You have to turn half of your property into native forest" and until then your patriarch stays in prison would have far more impressed the family.
The reason for the crime was money/property and if people so obviously demonstrate that they cannot fulfil their obligations to society that comes with this property then take it off them.

This situation arose because Glen Turner was relentlessly pursuing the farmer on the actions that he could take regarding his own property. It is highly likely that they were subjecting the farmer to undue pressure, which ultimately became excessive, leading the farmer to snap due to the relentless harassment. It may be prudent for those in authority to reflect critically on their methods of exerting control over individuals and compelling them to adhere to a specific narrative. Accountability is essential in this context. The persistent harassment of an elderly individual to the point of provoking a reaction could indeed be classified as elder abuse.

They seem to think that the law doesn't apply to them. It appears to me that they think they can do whatever they want and woe betide anyone who challenges their regime. With all the millions he must have in the bank, land as far as the eye can see, yet his obsessive-compulsive disorder got the better of his reasoning. Fancy choosing to share a cell with 3 psychopaths and a toilet for the remainder of one's days, instead of enjoying the twilight years in comfort, peace and quiet!
Yes, as the saying goes: "There's no fool like an old fool". Too true!
His grandchildren must now bear the stigma of a murderer for grandfather, society will never allow them to forget, their big money is actually BLOOD stained money. What a disgrace!

Don’t judge until you have walked in his shoes . If you think the government department didn’t intimidate, bully , harass and provoke this man then you would be wrong . His family might also remember him as a man who gave up his freedom to fight for what is right . Sometimes hiding behind a government title and being on a power trip won’t guarantee your safety . Everyone has a breaking point .

In these cases the perpetrator should be given third degree treatment in police custody and send to a prison in the outbacks for the rest of his life without bail. They should make a prison in the outbacks for murderers like him in the outbacks. This should be publicly shown to instill fear and discpline. Mental conditions or psycopaths exist in America/Australia or UK, it will not prevail in UAE or Saudi Arabia/Singapore because they will be hanged to death for sure. Fear is the best method of discipline they use in UAE so crime rate is below 0.7%. Unfortunately the laws are flawed so evil things like this will continue till they overhaul the system.

Just reading about this online (SMH. Good Weekend. by Kate Holden May 28 2021). Apparently Turnbull died in prison in 2017, having served just one year of his sentence. Also, he was not without his supporters around Moree, with many regarding him as the victim.

I can't think what he thought he would gain by killing this man. I guess in his mind he thought Glen Turner was the one to blame and maybe this might have been due to the way Glen might have conducted himself doing his job. Some people in authority do get carried away with their power and become bombastic. I am not saying Glen was either of these things but it does make you realize that people with authority should exercise their power in a polite and considerate way rather than go at it like a bull at a gate. I didn't know Glen and I understand he was a wonderful person so I am not for one moment suggesting Glen did anything other than do his job in the right way. The old man got what he deserved and will die where he belongs but no matter how long he serves in prison, it doesn't bring back Glen to live out his life as he deserved to do. RIP Glen. This stupid murderer not only ruined Glen's family life but also ruined his own family.
