  • We're building a 175 square foot tiny house on an 18’ Tumbleweed custom trailer. In our first episode, we’ll fill you in on what we’ve been up to that’s led us to building a tiny house. Then we’ll get started putting in the insulation, decking and framing the walls.

    great first video and i tip my hat to you guys for being so handy and crafty! i hope we get a lot of insight into how to build a tiny house, and maybe you guys could also say a word or two about expenses?
    you two are such likeable, calm, grounded people, i admire you!
    may there always be a bit of luck when you need it!
    my best wishes from austria, europe,
    mathew :)

      I have a big list going of every dollar we're spending on the tiny house so we can let you know the total and the breakdown of expenses when it's complete! I learned my lesson from not doing that from the beginning with the boat. Thanks for your kind words!

    I have been following your sailing channel for a long time now and was saddened to hear you'd be leaving the water. But, my fiancé is all about the tiny houses, so we are here to stay! Can't wait to see what's in store for you two. Have fun building your new home!

    I look forward to following you on this adventure as well. Maybe you can explain why you are doing a tiny house for travel rather than just doing a travel trailer for those of us not hip to the tiny house movement. Thanks

    It is quite funny to see you two transition from Baby Blue to your trailer. I have enjoyed watching and hearing about your travels. Wherever you lay your hat is your home. Relocation for a job should not be a problem. Traveling is the same just the mode of transport is different. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe you two lived through a home remodeling, cruising a sailboat with just an icebox for two years, and now building a small home to live in and travel. You'll be fine. I am from California but I have spent some time in upstate N. Y. and Connecticut and it is a great place to hang out in. I will follow along on the fun with you guys. I look back and realize I have lived a great portion of my live living out of a suitcase and have no regrets.Keep the videos coming. It's all good. Good luck to both of you, just look at what you have accomplished so far.
    P.S. have you thought about a name for the trailer?

    • @TinyHouseTravels
      @TinyHouseTravels  7 років тому

      Yeah, it seems we have a pattern of living a somewhat unsettled life! But it's served us well so far. :) I have been thinking a little bit about a name for the house...but nothing has stuck yet. We'll have to wait to see how it turns out, but the blue roof might have to be a contributing factor. Any suggestions?

    My husband says your saw shouldn't be smoking like that. Probably your blade is on backwards (or it's dull, or even the wrong kind of blades). It will still cut that way but you will be burning through your wood. Did you notice the extra smoke mixed with the sawdust? Anyhow, hope that helps save you on blades =)

    I really enjoyed your Baby Blue series and have seen some pretty cool mini homes on youtube... I think there is a New Zealand youtube channel on mini homes. For one or two people I think it is a great alternative especially on a budget.Congrats on buying a home land base, I think that is a really smart move to be doing it now.Great first episode and I have already subscribed.

    • @TinyHouseTravels
      @TinyHouseTravels  7 років тому

      Thanks for coming over to the new channel! I had no idea how hard it would be to find a place where we could (semi) legally park a tiny house on our own land. We were kicking ourselves for not buying land before we left on our cruise, but it's still exciting that we finally found something. It's easy to overlook that part of the package!

    I was initially bummed by the "Not going to sail for a while," but the tiny house thing is kind of interesting. I think I'll keep watching and see how this thing turns out. I want to see y'all wearing safety glasses. Young blind people isn't cool. Good luck.

      I thought you might be out the door from your prescient comment about everyone giving up and going to RVs on the last video! Haha. We're trying to remember the glasses, the masks, and as I learned the other day, ear plugs. Ouch.

    I'm looking forward to watching this adventure unfold!
    I'm no build expert, but wondering if you don't need to leave some leeway for trailer-flex (my own made up word!) since you intend to take this out on the road? What other special measurements have to be accounted for to make it road-worthy?

    Found your new site, will look forward to your new adventure. Interested in seeing how you do the floor plan.
    Also would be interested in knowing how you calculated the final weight of this tiny house to be sure that you were under legal limits and within the towing capacity of your vehicle. Did you find a program somewhere? Are you planning to have A/C and heating in this house, and what kind.

    • @TinyHouseTravels
      @TinyHouseTravels  7 років тому

      We're hoping to keep it under 10,000lbs. We have a Ford F250 and from what we've read online we think it can handle that load. Once we get everything framed and insulated we'll take it to a weigh station so we know what we're working with for the finishes where we have more options for materials. We're doing a cubic mini wood burning stove. We might wait to put in a heating/air conditioning combo unit until next summer.

    • @TinyHouseTravels

      At first we were making good progress but we've definitely slowed down a bit lately. We are working on it full-time, trying to finish before we're surrounded by several feet of snow!

      @elliemiller4634 5 років тому +1

      They said the overall height will be 13’ 2” and I think the height restrictions are 13’ 5”. Cutting it close but I think they should be fine.
