That's a really mellow rabbit. I don't think my rabbit would tolerate most of those positions. She is a rescue I got as an adult. I agree you should respect their space and feelings, so I only pick her up if she is in the mood to let me. Otherwise I leave her on the floor and sit or lay down there with her.
+Blazers13 this is actually incredibly safe for the rabbit as long as you properly support its rear and it's calm so it's not trying to jump away the best way to calm it is gently placing your hands over its eyes so it can't see I know it looks dangerous but trust me they're fine as long as you too are calm and not freaking out about it because it'll freak out too
Nasexsav Kifs me too my bunny he's one of the. Big type the californian or the other type it doesn't matter he's just a really big bunny about 10 pounds we usually get him next to my sister she grabs him like a baby but belly down while I open his enclosure put food and stuff like that in I after she puts him down near the open door he goes in to eat and we close it
with my old one I would put a hand on her back rump and then secure her front feet in my other hand, pick her up and slide my back hand to support her bum. takes a few tries to master, but it works for moving them quickly without scaring em.
One hand under the but and one under the front legs. And when you holding him, keep him horizontal and for more grip, use the hand on the but to hold on a foot. Not hard. Just around it. So he can’t jump of you. Don’t do it hard! It shouldn’t hurt!! My bunny is fine with that! And is very relax!
The bunny looks more frightened than relaxed.. when I pick up my bunny, I place him on my chest and he burrows his head under my chin. I can go and sit down and then he gets onto my shoulder, puts his head behind my neck and gently grinds his teeth when I reach back to pet him!
The rabbit is so patient when being handled! Such a good bunno :) You can tell they trust their handlers too with how relaxed they are- They just go with the flow! I plan on adopting a rabbit soon, and I've been binging videos to get to know rabbits and learn how to handle and care for them- This was very helpful! so now i should watch the video to how to get my rabbit on the table? i mean its totally logical my rabbit is on a table all the time in fact i built him an entire little city so he can play godzilla.
No kidding! Trying to get them to the actual floor is the part they hate! If you can manage to ballerina yourself to the floor while keeping your back perfectly straight, then my bunny won't jump out of your arms but if you bend over just the smallest degree then she struggles and jumps, this is after being held for 15 minutes so it's not like she doesn't want to be held, she just doesn't like the transition. I never thought of a bunny city though. Now I know hat to do with our old Thomas the Train table!
I used to hold my bunny the same way you would hold a baby to burp him over your shoulder. He would even hop up from the table onto me into that position :)

For what it's worth, the best luck I have had involves not focusing on the picking up at first, but rather working on getting the rabbit to adore people and shifting their instinctive fear reaction to an 'unknown' to one of curiosity & hunger. I've found that rabbits allowed to free roam are usually much easier to both condition and handle. I think this partly has to do with a rabbit who spends most of its life in a cage equating a small, low-lying, and enclosed space with security, which picking up is the opposite of and puts them into a strange environment. I've also noticed that extremely food-driven rabbits are the easiest to get to a point where they enjoy being held, because you can condition them to equate it with being fed, and you can feed them treats while they are being held. In the case of my current rabbit, who's first year of life was characterized by neglect and a complete lack of love, it took about 6 months to go from absolute & total fear of being handled to approaching people to be held, accepting food, falling asleep, and licking your face or shoulder while being held. Rather, I scoop her up using both hands to support the spine, and then rest her tummy-side against my upper torso, where her head can rest over my shoulder, and she can freely move it should she wants (to avoid obstructing her vision, which for a rabbit can cause anxiety.) If her head is over my left shoulder, my right hand supports her bottom-side, and her feet hang a little below that. When resting against my body, her spine is fully supported and because her entire body is making contact against mine, she's in a position where she feels stable. If a rabbit does not feel stable, that could cause them to freak out. Initially, I did this sitting down on something like a bed, because if she were to struggle/jump away, that could cause spinal damage. However, it didn't take long for her to stop struggling as she began to equate being held with affection and food. Through this process, I also used mirrors so she could see what is happening when she is being held (and so she could see that the way she was being held was solid and that she wasn't going to fall or be dropped.)

when i took my bunny she was used to us in like 2,3 days, she started running around and playing, she was hilarious and so lovely just watching her jumping all over the house
I let my bunny put his front legs on my hand, and his back legs on the rest of my arm. That's how I carry him, and he doesn't tremble, or seem scared. Also, if I'm letting my bunny run around the house, and he's mostly running around me, does this mean he likes me? [Or is this just some coincidence?] I let him freeroam, and he does have some favourite lounge spots away from me, but he's generally running around my feet when I'm on the computer, or relaxing near to me, etc.
When your bunny runs in circles around you that means he loves you! It's a form of bunny language to show affection and love towards another rabbit, toy, or owner :)
Last I checked running circles around your feet is a mating thing (they usually start doing this when they mature). Usually accompanied by honking noises and sometimes finished with peeing on the floor. Did you neuter your rabbit?
Oh, not sure. Sounds like it loves you though. As for cables since it free roams, get some spiral cable wrap. Mine hasn't ran circles around me yet. She does a lot of licking though, and she'll lay in a completely relaxed position while I'm petting her. She did do something I don't understand though. She was tossing the base of a flower I gave her and when I gave it a small toss myself she gave me a little nose bump to my face, squeaked, then started running around the apartment. Anyone understand what that was? Was it good or bad?
+vlad schonthal no need to apologize for your English perfectly fine ✌ anyway sometimes my rabbit likes to be picked up like a cat and rests on my shoulder, its really cute
These techniques don't work for all rabbits! I have a super cute 3-year-old Lionhead rabbit and she's never tolerated being picked up. The key is to buy a hand-raised rabbit if you want one you can pick up.
my bunny was hand raised and hates to be handled or hates me trying to attempt. Doesnt matter if its done properly some just really hate to be picked up
My family had a white rabbit and my little siblings were always trying to carry her and pick her up and she kinda just ran away and hid, but since i was never physically involved with her every time she was being followed my by sister and brother she’d come to me like she trusted me and all on her own she sometimes got on my lap and let me pet her which she rarely let my siblings do and watching these vids really explains why me and her bonded better than she did with the others
I have a question, at 2:02 you say to pause with your hand to help him decide if he wants to be touched. How do you tell if he does or not? Is there a subtle indication, as in, what are the signals? I'm worried that if he retreats then he's already started developing the habit of having to move to get distance rather than you respecting the signals he's giving.
My rabbit growls if he doesn't want to be picked up but will come closer to me if he does, he's a weird little guy. (This probably doesn't answer your question)
After a while, you will know. And so will your rabbit! Your bunny will get used to the way you ask them if they want to be petted. In this case, asking would be holding your hand beside their face, pausing, then petting (or handling). Rabbits are smart.. they will learn. After they learn, if they don't want to be petted, they will hop away or ignore you. If they want to be petted, they will stay still. Maybe they will lower their head and ears, as if to say "pet me". I teach everything my rabbit knows to her based off of her natural instincts. To ask if she wants to be petted, I hold my hand in a fist somewhere in front of her face. I know that it's her blind spot, but she's pretty chill after two weeks of having her. Then, if she wants to be petted, she will lower her head under my hand, and lay her ears flat on her head. If she doesn't, then she will ignore me or hop off. To let her know that I'm going to pick her up, I take both of my hands and stroke the sides of her face, over her eyes, then down to the middle of her body. If she's ok with being picked up, she will, again, lower her head. This is when I know to continue. I then move my strokes from the top of her body, down to her sides, then moving all the way down to her front legs. When my petting touches her front legs, she knows to be prepared to be picked up. I stop my petting, and pick her up. Believe me, this takes lots of practice. For you and for your bunny. I started off slowly, just lifting her front paws off the ground at first, then once she was comfortable with that, lifting her whole body up (not far off the ground, of course), then lifting her whole body up, and moving her from one place to another (short distance, also not far off the ground). This is where we stand now. Just practice, and you and your bunny will get used to it. Take it slow, and make your main goal to make your bunny as comfortable and calm as possible.
Allie Kat Yes, first, I know I'm late XD But I just got a new rabbit a few months ago, and we do the same exact thing you described :3. The only problem is I can't seem to pet him right. If I pet his hand or stroke his cheeks, he stays like that for about 20 seconds before hopping away D: If I just hold my hand out or finger, he pets HIMSELF. He rubs the part he wants to be petted on my finger >.
my rabbit is quite aggressive all I do is pretend she is a harmless bird and go right for it , its simple DON'T PICK HER UP by the scruff just hold the scruff no picking her up then pick her up anyway you like, just bot by the scruff, the scruff is the extra skin
there are ways to work with your rabbit you make it less agressive but normally you should avoid picking up an agressive rabbit. it. could be that they are really scared and just doesn't like being handled
i found my rabbit near death so i feel like thats why we have such a bond and he was able to be so comfortable with me within the first few days of having him
our rabbit cage is open at all times at night we close it cus its bed time and at the day when my dad wakes up he opens the cage and lets him go out and run around our rabbit is very chill kinda to chill.
Ah, yes. The siren call of shaken raisins that no bun can resist. 😊 My partner and I have trained our Cobbler to return to his pen simply by shaking the bag and saying “go home.” It works, no chasing, and everyone is happy.
I saw a mother bunny in my backyard staying there even if I get so close she runs away and I saw baby's my brother Justin and my mom seed it and when my sister came it was gone=)
As a general guideline this works, but from experience I can say that it's by no means universal, and every animal really does have it's own personality. That becomes apparent as you get to know them. For instance, the little Dutch I had was completely fearless when it came to going where she wanted, and when I picked her up she was completely happy about it. I could sit her stretched out on my forearm, kind of how you'd see a cat on a branch, legs just flopped out and perfectly relaxed. I could sit her in a ball in my hand, or with my knees together flop her upside down to pet her belly. Didn't really matter which way, she'd be content, just as long as she got attention.... By contrast the bunny I've got now, who's breed I'm not entirely sure of, is definitely on the skittish side. She was raised basically the same, but still has that nervous prey quality that a lot of them have, and while she has mellowed some as she gets older she is absolutely still a bit of a nervous bunny.
I currently have a large (but shy) rabbit in my garden, and I pick it up by pinning it down with my hand clasped around the back of its neck (to immobilise the rabbit), then use the other hand to grab both of its hind feet together to not only support its weight, but also to prevent it from scratching me.
Rabbits are prey animals. They don't like being picked up in general. That's not a terrified bunny. Usually they will try to escape including scratching and biting.
Some rabbits are very close to humans and allow them to be picked up without bother if they trust them. In this video you can clearly see the rabbit frozen in fear, and as I clicked on this notification, I saw a human hand over the rabbits face. I think that may frighten it. Some rabbits freeze in fear while scared, and not all rabbits bite and scratch.
+The IIIuminati rabbits actually are ok with a hand on their face sometimes it can actually calm them down if they are frightened so as long as she was doing it gently it's fine for the rabbit it was actually calm that why it's legs were dangling it probably gets handled quite often and it probably trusts humans
My bunny runs away from me how can I teach him that I don't wanna hurt him? I'm getting him a bigger cage but the one he has is really small. Every time I go to pick him up he scratches me. I have tons of scars from him. I feel like he doesn't love me. Like I'm a Fox or something when ever I reach into his cage he crouched down like he's ready to run or bolt. Can u help me please?
before approaching him ,get your hand in front of.his nose to pick up your scent and let him know you're friendly and not invading his space.if he licks you,you may go ahead and gently keep approaching until you can't pick him up,but just don't do it so up high,it scares them,30in from the floor should be OK.
Me and my partner have just had two adorable little baby rabbits and they're getting to the stage where we're trying to introduce ourselves more, we've had them out for a run around and when it came time to put them back I find I'm terrified of picking them up. I don't ever want to hurt them or feel like I have, so this was a really good video for me to learn how to pick them up.
A remember five years ago I got a new rabbit and I would watch these videos all the time to know how to take care of him. He died five years later. Thank you. RIP🙏🕊
I always pick my rabbit up with my left hand thumb supporting her left side, my hand supporting the armpit/chest-area and the fingers supporting the right side of her. The rabbits right 'arm' is in between of my lft index finger and my left middle finger (not squeezed or something, but it's in between.) And the right hand supports her bunnybum, like you're holding an apple. As long as you don't hold your right hand up too high (that won't be good for the spine, she'll bend forward then) I think it's a good way to hold the rabbit. Especially if she needs medication or her toenails clipped.
Mosawar Hussain cops? why do you hate cops? That's not right. your name suggests that you aren't from America...don't come here and hurt cops. we love the police in this country. they protect us. you scare me.
Teri 2011 their name, srsly? america is the largest culture cheese pot, pretty much every culture has a footstep here. and keep in mind the quality of american cops are drastically different depending on where you are. some are the best trained cops ever and really respecful people. they go out of their way to help people, and they have places in their local community and deal with criminals in a professional manner, while others are corrupt and don't care about other's lives and would rather shoot first even if they arent in any danger. I hear horror stories of how bad cops will unlawfully arrest people, frame them for drug use, and even go so far as shoot an unarmed citizen who is in no way a threat. yeah not all cops are bad, but not nearly enough american cops are good enough for me to say "cops are good guys in america." Its up to someones local police force, and if you are stuck living somewhere where the police force isn't well mantained... well, I hope they can move to someplace better as soon as possible.
They could have brushed it before the video, just saying. I know what a bunny goes through when its molting. I try to brush it even more then, not less.
socialdef3 maybe they did brush it... I have a rabbit as well and she sheds crazily and I brush her 2 to 3 times a week because she sheds the rest. Rabbits are shedding animals. What about wild rabbits. No one brushes them. They rub against twigs, trees, dirt, and rocks. If you have a wire sided cage then your rabbit can rub against it. My rabbit (sadly) is a Flemish Giant/New Zeeland mix so its very hard to get her in and out of her cage(s). Buying a huge cage cost to much so I took her original cage and my aunts two spare ones and made a big one where she can stand and hop. So I know that wire sided cages work for brushing. I will do a video on my channel soon.
My rabbit struggles for dear life when I pick him up. He chews holes in my shirt super fast once picked up. But he’s super comfortable with me so he feels safe doing that. Where as when strangers pick him up he freezes

Last I checked running circles around your feet is a mating thing (they usually start doing this when they mature). Usually accompanied by honking noises and sometimes finished with peeing on the floor. Did you neuter your rabbit?
Happy UA-camr He doesn't honk or pee. He goes to the washroom in his cage. But he also runs around the rest of the house.
I love that she specified a puppy pen😁👏🏻👏🏻 rabbit cages are too small.
My technique goes something's like this........"Look over There!!" (Snatches rabbit quickly)
Works everything!............... Kinda
cat girl how do you tell a rabbit to “look over there” lol or is it just to confuse them
What a baby , he’s like okay do whatever lol precious angel ❤️
Awww he's such a good baby bun bun!!😍😍 what a brave little man.
When I get home from school I let my bunnies out for playtime and I lay down in the middle of the floor and do my homework
Idk it kinda looked scared. Idk about picking up a rabbit like that...
same, and I'm in FFA and I haven't seen anyone pick up a rabbit like that
well, in my case, i pick my rabit like a cat... sorry for bed eanglish
+vlad schonthal no need to apologize for your English perfectly fine ✌ anyway sometimes my rabbit likes to be picked up like a cat and rests on my shoulder, its really cute
Kiwi 키위 the imporant thing is that the rabbit isnt struggling, and its not scared enough to try to.
레몬Lemon agreed
These techniques don't work for all rabbits! I have a super cute 3-year-old Lionhead rabbit and she's never tolerated being picked up. The key is to buy a hand-raised rabbit if you want one you can pick up.
Sarah Peters I LOVE LIONHEADS!!!!!
Yeah they're great :)
My lionhead is the SAME way. Sometimes you just have to accept your rabbit doesn't want to be picked up. ;)
my bunny was hand raised and hates to be handled or hates me trying to attempt. Doesnt matter if its done properly some just really hate to be picked up
Alexandra Wright
Oh, well that's good to know.
I always feel like I'm going to break the rabbit when I pick it up, they're so fragile.
he’s so calm lol my pet bunny would be hopping all over that table, he’s very active lol
--- This bunny is SO adorable! :)
Take it slow, and make your main goal to make your bunny as comfortable and calm as possible.
kinda like a cat, they will nuzzle your hand if it is outstretch. if they dont do anything after sniffing it, they are cool with ya.
My rabbit bites me if i touch him
i just love the rabbit just chillin there. SOOOO CUUTE
I love that I am watching Amy Sedaris in a rabbit "how to" video!
aww the rabbit twitching is adorable
Ughh.. I know right.
How do u pick up an aggressive rabbit from the ground
my rabbit is quite aggressive all I do is pretend she is a harmless bird and go right for it , its simple DON'T PICK HER UP by the scruff just hold the scruff no picking her up then pick her up anyway you like, just bot by the scruff, the scruff is the extra skin
Probably would be a good idea to spay or neuter your rabbit.
there are ways to work with your rabbit you make it less agressive but normally you should avoid picking up an agressive rabbit. it. could be that they are really scared and just doesn't like being handled
XD I asked the same
you dont. you have to get the rabbit (or any other aggressive pet) to not be aggressive and then you can pick them up.
My rabbit just appeared when she heard the sound of the raisin box on the video. She's now a bit disappointed I don't actually have treats.
3:23 "HELP ME"
i found my rabbit near death so i feel like thats why we have such a bond and he was able to be so comfortable with me within the first few days of having him
When I carry my rabbit he just kicks me and runs away
Mee tooooo😂😂
I don’t know why this made my laugh so much 😂😂😂
so kick him* and run away
@@mostrandomcontent4588 i-
our rabbit cage is open at all times at night we close it cus its bed time and at the day when my dad wakes up he opens the cage and lets him go out and run around our rabbit is very chill kinda to chill.
That sounds perfect :)
Ah, yes. The siren call of shaken raisins that no bun can resist. 😊 My partner and I have trained our Cobbler to return to his pen simply by shaking the bag and saying “go home.” It works, no chasing, and everyone is happy.
thank for these videos. I'm adopting a rabbit soon and I have found these videos to be very helpful.
I saw a mother bunny in my backyard staying there even if I get so close she runs away and I saw baby's my brother Justin and my mom seed it and when my sister came it was gone=)

My 3rd Day With This Rabbit, I've Been Doing This Technique All Day And My Rabbit Follows, Licks And He Seems To Love Me, Thank You! :)
It looks so cute!
I'm so excited I just got my bunny today and man I'm so happy I bumped into this channel really teaching me something
The rabbits looks terrified. I wouldn't handle rabbits like that.
+Elizabeth Roderick I mean to cover it's eyes not just on its face in general by the way
+Elizabeth Roderick But with a hand over the rabbits eye would have frightened it.
I can't even focus on the tips the rabbit is just too cute the way his/her nose move
u can tell the rabbit is in his shedding stage cause the amount of rabbit hair on her is overwhelming
Rabbits only shed from February to the end of Summer.
lol rabbits shed all the time. it's the worst.
My bunny loves
being petted and handled. The only thing she hates is when I pick her up.
Edit: 3:06 omg that is so cute!
Oooh!! now all those SNL sketches makes sense
I'm getting a rabbit in about a month. Doing research... so this really helps!
im almost getting a rabbit and this is helping me a lot thanks 😄👍🏼
The rabbit is so calm and cute! ^^
3:20 I don’t have a clue while I’m finding this so hilarious 😂😂😂 is it just me who’s lmao😂
What a sweet little rabbit. Awe.
Defentately don't chase him
Yeah when you chase your rabbit they feel scared.
And loose trust
before approaching him ,get your hand in front of.his nose to pick up your scent and let him know you're friendly and not invading his space.if he licks you,you may go ahead and gently keep approaching until you can't pick him up,but just don't do it so up high,it scares them,30in from the floor should be OK.

The entire video I kept yelling “LEAVE HIM ALONE”
A remember five years ago I got a new rabbit and I would watch these videos all the time to know how to take care of him. He died five years later. Thank you. RIP🙏🕊
I wish I knew this when I first got my bunny
That rabbit is so relaxed.
"Oh that looks comfortable " xD
My lop is still adjusting to her new home, so we’re not quite at the point where she trusts me this much, but I found this video to be very helpful.
if I did that my rabbit is gonna bite me for sure, she's very aggresive
This helped a lot I might be 7 years late but I am thinking about getting a bunny and this helped thank you!
how do I stop my rabbit from attacking me ?
wtf
Yeah
You need to not act like a predator. Do you chase it, to get in its cage? Is it a new rabbit?
+Sophie Bunny I'm just trying to be funny ; my rabbits don't attack unless given the proper command , lol !!!
+louis t make a pillow case out of it
I have a question whenever a rabbit bites on their cage doesn't mean that they are excited or frustrated
what breed
Probably a netherland dwarf. It looks like one ;)
ya hah
Its a netherland dwarf! Not 100% sure on the color but it might be a chestnut
This was great advice I just lost my hamster and I think I want a 🐇and this has showed me bunnies or rabbits are very comforting and loving.
I always pick my rabbit up with my left hand thumb supporting her left side, my hand supporting the armpit/chest-area and the fingers supporting the right side of her. The rabbits right 'arm' is in between of my lft index finger and my left middle finger (not squeezed or something, but it's in between.)
And the right hand supports her bunnybum, like you're holding an apple. As long as you don't hold your right hand up too high (that won't be good for the spine, she'll bend forward then) I think it's a good way to hold the rabbit. Especially if she needs medication or her toenails clipped.
My rabbit responds to his name it's pretty funny
multifandomedits how long did it take for him to learn that
that is the most chill rabbit I know
I like rabbits as much as I hate politicians, lawyers and cops, I'm a big rabbit lover
awwwww
+Mosawar Hussain Why do you hate lawyers?
+LordHealey
and COPS wtf
I like their perpetually moving nose.
That poor rabbit needs to be brushed... too much fur all over the place.
They could have brushed it before the video, just saying. I know what a bunny goes through when its molting. I try to brush it even more then, not less.
:)
socialdef3 maybe they did brush it...
Thks this help alot i was able to tame my rabbits and carry as much as i want! Thank you!
I can't get a rabbit
Because of my parents
i felt so relaxed watching this
Animal abuse cuaght on camera
I enjoy these videos. I learn something new every time. Thank you very much
I really love to watch my bunny do stuff when i fed her and gave her water!
Thank you for this video. I have had rabbits before and I currently have one but I feel that I always struggle with picking them up
My rabbit struggles for dear life when I pick him up. He chews holes in my shirt super fast once picked up. But he’s super comfortable with me so he feels safe doing that. Where as when strangers pick him up he freezes
