That reef and that Tawny shark were amazing. And I literally blurted out, "Wow!" seeing the drone shot of that heart-shaped blue hole. Keep 'em coming!
Thanks, Mok! We agree with you and David Attenborough! This reef was indeed amazing, the twenty nurse sharks were added to the experience. It was visually stunning indeed!
Hey there, Kalli! Thank you so much for appreciating! The blue holes exposed at low tide are incredible for sure. Have a look at Episode 4 for another nearby blue hole for you to explore. We are glad there’s something we have already done that you can tap into ahead of your trip. No one seems to be targeting the blue holes at Montgomery Reef (or elsewhere) and yet it’s one of the most amazing things we have discovered, apart from the “waterfalls” when the tide drops, of course. Happy to share coordinates with you too as we have extensively travelled and scoured the Kimberley from Darwin all the way to Middle Lagoon. Have you and your hubby travelled the Kimberley before now? Do you mind doing us a favour and mentioning us on your channel page and video? We have learned so much from others sailing the area and giving us notes here and there, just so we can help others too targeting the same area ☺️ We do travel on a 9m boat, significantly smaller than how you travel. We are keen to get a bigger catamaran/motor boat but we have so many concerns. We'd love to keep in touch and ask you and your hubby and pick your brains. We are on facebook too. Are you?
It's watching videos like these that makes me wish I'm a good swimmer LOL! Watching the clam shell and the conch, as well as the different species of fish was awesome. I will say -- I didn't even realize there's a different looking starfish. I thought it was a cushion hahaha.
Haha! The starfish looked different, right? I was excited to have seen this version and share it, for sure! Playing with the clam shell was super cool and the conch shell was like an extra-terrestrial creature! Mind you, I only healed myself of panic attacks whilst swimming last year…so before that….I was a mess!!! You, too can swim with me to enjoy these beautiful moments underwater, Gen!!!
How lovely that you enjoyed that!!! It’s one of our most favourite finds (Ricky’s, that is)! Hahaha. Of course I get petrified in case there are any man-eating creatures in those blue holes but thankfully, there are only beautiful creatures to admire :) and then I also think that if that is how I would leave this earth, boy, what a splendid way to do so! Thank you so much for sharing!!! This means a lot to us…to find connections like yours! How did you find our channel, Frank?
We hope you will also enjoy our time at the Montebello Islands. I was skeptical as to how it would fare as we love the Kimberley region very much. Looking forward to what you think!

I am very envious of you guys....! Do you have, or have you ever had, problems with customs inspections / border force checks / fisheries checks etc...???.......Kind regards to you both from me, in Waikerie, South Australia........😀
@steinrich56 hey John! pleased you enjoyed our Montgomery Reef episode as well! That's a great question! We've had Border Force fly over planes as we travelled with our friends over to Scott's Reef. As that reef obviously allows Indonesian fishermen to fish the area, Border Force would radio us and ask us how many people were on board, how long we were staying, if we were ok, etc. They never boarded the bigger boat we travelled in and I suppose being it was halfway to Indonesia, they wouldn't bother to travel so far unless they saw a suspicious-looking boat nearing Australian waters. Fisheries do frequent checks along the more popular spots in the Kimberley so we just make sure that at any one time, we only keep that we would eat that day. We haven't connected with Border Force in the Kimberley. If we intend to keep fish for family and that back home, we would keep a bit more but always within limits on the last day of our trip wherever we are. The size of our freezers also restrict us anyway so that makes it easier! haha! Have you seen Episodes 11 and 12 yet? These are superb anchorages and places so worthwhile if you are up this way :)
@@Hookedonwildventures Hi Folks......I am slowly FEASTING my way through your amazing adventure videos...!....One more quick question, if I may.....the stinger suit : It looks to be a thin lycra / nylon material. Is that correct, and how thick is it ? Back in the 1960's we were all wearing wet suits - 3/16 of an inch thick etc. Are the stinger suits you wear adequate protection...???...and kind regards once more from me, in Waikerie, South Australia. (Signed) John E.
@steinrich56 Hi John! We bring two types of suits with us. In the Kimberley where the water is warmer, the thinner suit appears to be sufficient noting they just protect us from jellyfish stings (and brushing against soft corals). Mine is from a thin netting and Ricky’s would be Lycra-like. It doesn’t do anymore than that. The waters around the Montebello Islands (Episodes 18-25) are colder and when we know we might be diving around caves or under reefs, we would wear the thicker wetsuit to ensure fuller/better protection.
Thank you!!! We hope you enjoyed that episode!! We haven’t tried spear fishing yet but now with the PowerDive, we certainly can do target fishing indeed! Do subscribe to your channel so you can offer us more insights!
hi there! We released our latest episode on the Montebello Islands today. We hope you can join us for this wild venture!!! haha! ua-cam.com/video/c4ozcJS_Fn4/v-deo.html
Hi! It’s good to know it’s everyone’s favourite! Haha! Which song were you referring to? Could you tell me at which time during this episode and definitely, I could name it specifically for you! We hope you enjoyed the visuals that go with the music 😊. This is truly a special place for us!
It's called Acoustic Sunrise :) We used it on several of our episodes for our intro as it sounded fun and a bit of modern country. Follow us for more amazing visuals of Australia! :)
I actually have one that covers my head and my forehead but I figured if I let my hair down, that would hopefully deter anything and anything; being octopus-like, it would be worse for any stingers 😂 but thanks for the reminder. I should also wear that all the time 😊 we hope you enjoyed the episode! We go snorkelling in bourbons in episode 4 as well!
Hi Guys, please dont walk on the reef up there and posting it online only encourages others to follow in your footsteps. Walking on montgomery reef has been discouraged for over a decade now. It goes directly against the wishes of the Dambimangaree Aboriginal Corporation and Marine Park Regulations. There is a reason the 1000's that visit the reef each year dont do it. Unfortunately these videos are what gets us locked out of these amazing places.
Hi there! Thanks for sharing your perspective. We appreciate your passion for protecting this incredible ecosystem. We always aim to minimize our impact when exploring these areas, especially during low tide. You've raised some valid points, and we're definitely mindful of the Dambimangaree Aboriginal Corporation's wishes and Marine Park Regulations. We're always learning and evolving how we approach these sensitive environments, especially since last visiting it. In fact, as we plan our next trip, we're going to make a point of highlighting some of the regulations that many people might not be aware of. You are right, we also think it's a great opportunity to educate our viewers and promote responsible exploration. Speaking of impact, wouldn't it be amazing if we could influence some of the bigger channels to embrace sustainable practices too? Imagine if they joined the movement and started promoting things like responsible fishing and respecting marine reserves, including not fishing where they are not supposed to be - whoops. With their massive reach, the positive impact on the environment would be phenomenal. With your knowledge and passion, you could be a real driving force in making that happen. We're also huge fans of the underwater world, and we have a bunch of videos showcasing its beauty through diving and snorkeling. We'd love for you to check them out! We're always looking for ways to improve our channel and be better stewards of these amazing places, so thank you once again. We don't necessarily know (then) what we now know.
@Hookedonwildventures thanks guys for such a great response, sorry to sound a bit abrupt. Unfortunately it can be quite frustrating. Ive been operating on the coast for most of my working career and we have a great inclusive community and as with yourself we all share an immense passion for the place. It's clear your love and respect for the natural world. I just think there is a bit of personal responsibility in the edit and were all responsible for researching visitation plans set out by the traditional owners which will be great to get out to the broader youtube community. We're seeing a huge increase in recreational cruisers and social media on the coast. It's fair enough, it belongs to everyone. Sadly though, almost daily on youtube i'm seeing youtubes from the yachting community fishing in sanctuaries, going to restricted areas, visiting sacred sites and butchering culture and posting it online. Its all at the same places as it seems it is spreading through social media and the yachting community. It's frustrating because the information is so readily available and as people passing through as visitors, indigenous permits and marine park information should be at the forefront of voyage planning. It shows respect for the area and it's sad seeing it exploited for social media goals. It would be fantastic to see your channel take the lead. There are so many special places on the coast to explore. I do really love your videos especially the fishing when you were around Cone Bay and Yampi. Sorry if i've come across hard in my original post :) i'm just standing on the sidelines as i see the place i love that has given me my livelyhood and life get pulled apart by visitors who are gone a month later :( i know this isnt you guys apologies for that rant :)
