Epic BIG Snapper Fishing in Remote NT | Fishing Australia Catch & Cook
@Hookedonwildventures In part 2 of this episode, the rain rolls in at our fishing spot in the top end of Australia but so does the action - the fishing really heats up! We catch golden snapper one after another, luck or skill? We discover the top tip that Ricky had to learn to get Big Snapper on board our boat. We then head off to an untouched beach to cook some of this beautiful fish and go for an explore.
And of course, we’d love for you to check out some of our other wild ventures in the very remote Montebello Islands in Western Australia, where crystal-clear waters meet a fascinating history of nuclear testing in the 1950s - truly one of our favourite spots to visit.
Our Montebello islands playlist:

Or join us to the rugged and untamed West Kimberley. It’s a place where time seems to stand still, and every moment is a wild venture. From being stranded at low tide in an amphitheater of rock formations or in a reef hole, to reeling in incredible fish on the reef, the Kimberley offers surprises with wild nature at every turn.

And then there’s our home in the Top End of Australia - a wild paradise where giant crocodiles patrol the waterways, big Barramundi test your angling skills, and wildlife roams freely against a backdrop of rugged beauty. This is where wild venture isn’t just a pastime - it’s a way of life. The Northern Territory of Australia is nothing short of spectacular.

    You guys probably should have a read about the effects of barotrauma especially in deeper water. In the territory you may or may not be aware that we have no size limits on Goldie’s, or many other species of reef fish. Throwing small ones back is throwing dead fish back if you are not aware these fish are a particularly susceptible to the effects of barotrauma and are a very slow growing fish which currently has their stock under quite a bit of pressure. Not a good idea to be throwing them back especially in anything over 10 metres of water. Other than that great vid guys👍

    • @Hookedonwildventures
      @Hookedonwildventures 5 днів тому

      @Archimedes84 Hi, thanks for watching the video and sharing your thoughts! We’re aware of the effects of barotrauma and actually address this in part 2 of the video. Most of the water we fished that day was between 8m and 12m, and the fish we released were from shallower depths and showed no visible signs of barotrauma. Any fish that did display signs of barotrauma, we kept to avoid unnecessary suffering and waste. It’s also important to consider the many other factors putting fish stocks under pressure, such as the activities of larger players in the industry, the proliferation of sharks, and incidental bycatch. These issues highlight the need for continued discussions and education around sustainable fishing practices. We’re always open to sharing what we’ve learned and hearing from viewers like you to spread awareness further. Thanks again for your relevant comments, and we’d love for you to check out more of our videos. Last year, we traveled to WA, exploring the Montebello Islands and the West Kimberley-some unforgettable adventures we’re excited to share! Cheers!

    2 Mile , 4 Mile and out to the point are epic places. Should never ever be in a tinny that size in that hole. Hey Steve! Thank you for sharing your concern-it’s something we take very seriously. We usually travel with a satellite phone that can track us, Starlink and a first aid kit that could rival a local pharmacy! 😝 However, with us losing light, we did manage to find higher ground given the limited time of day and the incoming tide we needed to beat. We deeply respect nature and take our responsibility toward the environment seriously. In this particular instance, we had no choice but to create a path through the mangroves to ensure our safety in a life-threatening situation. We understand the importance of protecting these ecosystems, but it’s worth noting that the tidal exchange and large-scale industrial activities often cause significantly more damage than isolated instances like this. When profits are involved with clearing land, these issues don’t always receive the same level of scrutiny or concern. We’d truly appreciate your support in holding those larger players accountable, as their impact on these environments is far more extensive and long-lasting. Thank you for raising this point and for your passion for preserving nature-it’s something we share wholeheartedly. As for owners of the quads and buggies, we ARE the owners hence we can laugh about our own mistakes. We would either have cried or laughed. We chose to 😝. It is certainly one NYE that will forever stay with us for sure!! 😊 Btw, @carteblanch1811 succinctly addresses this issue too as a landowner herself.

      @geoffgold6773 Hi again Geoff! Oh wow that’s a huge change from Sydney, right? We think moving is always incredibly brave! Loving how you escaped to Darawin during Covid…we felt like we didn’t have to change our ways much whilst the rest of the world got shut down. It was eerie having to do the distancing at Woolies but we were the least affected up here, weren’t we? 😊 We have been in the Kimberleys chasing barra too (but only for the past seven years). What were your favourites? We’d love to hear your stories if you have been doing that for twenty years! We have so many more to learn. We loved Arnhemland prior to discovering the magic of the Kimberleys! Our values must be so aligned! 😊. Do you like mud crabbing too? The houses in the northern beaches will offer nice, quiet areas whilst being so close to the shopping centre. You will find the right one, for sure. Let’s keep connected and we hope to see you in the water too!! 😊

      Probably my most memorable fishing spot in the Kimberley’s is the Wallcot inlet but it’s not a place to go for the faint hearted on the change of tide eddys can be 25m in diameter but this the place for the hardest fighting Barra you ever come across. First cast 102cm he headed straight for the eddy’s where he sat in the current for 20min before I could get her to the surface over the next 2 days caught 50 Barra smallest being a 96cm.How we found this place is we had parked the mothership behind an island for the night one of the guides asked if anybody wanted to come for an explore and a fish just remember that in 2007 know charter boat had ever stop there.over next 10 years the owner of the 24m Kimberley Quest was able navigate the boat some 20km down the inlet.At the end of inlet it becomes the isdale and the Calder rivers which are fresh From what I have been told Malcom Douglas did a expedition there but came in overland

    Morning Margie, Ricky and friends, I don't know how many times I've watched this episode and each time I see something new. 🤣Machine mud wrestling, bush bashing and still the ocean found you guys. 😋 Throughout it all everyone seemed so relaxed, so relaxed that the group walk through the tide, one of the lads bought his fishing rod. 🎣🎣😂. Everything looks different in the dark. Just another typical day in the tropics. One thing for sure, no one needed to go the spa for their skin treatment. 🤣😂 I actually missed Ricky falling over and caught it this time. 😂 You say he was hurt though he bounced up like spring action style. Most people see a small spider, and flip out to a soundtrack of screams and shouts. They see a huge muddie and it doesn't bother them? They both have similar movement's. One day I'll scour the mangroves and coastline of the Kimberley's in order to get munched up on muddies. Untill that day I will have to continue drooling, lol. Yes, the soundtrack of my screams and shouts can be the same as others you would imagine for cockroaches or spiders but definitely a gleeful one for muddies. Ricky says he doesn’t know if I’m happy or in trouble! Hahaha. Apparently muddies are rapid growing so maybe two to three years? They definitely live a shorter lifespan when we are around the area 😝

      @Hookedonwildventures 15 днів тому

      @wwf5409 Thank you for your concern and for taking the time to comment. When profits are involved, these issues don’t always receive the same level of scrutiny or concern. We’d truly appreciate your support in holding those larger players accountable, as their impact on these environments is far more extensive and long-lasting. Thank you for raising this point and for your passion for preserving nature-it’s something we share wholeheartedly.

      I don't know if you have lived up in the Kimberleys or in the tropics around Darwin, but in situations like this the landowners would be happy that they all got out without someone coming to rescue them or even something more dire. The tides up this way come in fast and anyone can get caught as it will go around you and you can't see it. After storms the tide will change directions due to the rain and the wind. The mangrove trees are pretty hardy and will grown back. As a landowner with similar landscape as this, I'm happy that they collectively remained calm and found a way out. I live up in the Kimberleys and I know the type of people you are referring too. It's not the landscape below the sand dunes, it's where they roll over the sand dunes and damage the grasses growing along it. They don't make one track they make several. I do hear you though. The type of people you are referring are a very small percentage of the many that respect the land and do the right thing.

Hopefully we can live in one in the Kimberley for a bit! Croc/crab infested waters too? Catch plenty and show us a catch and cook! Cannot wait for it! Haha! Different ways of cooking seafood are always welcome!! 😊

      @@NicolaConnolly Nicola, oh, yes the giant lizards with big teeth and scaly skin do live there too!!! 😨 there were talks of a 4.5m residing in that part of the flats. We were just glad we didn’t get acquainted at all that evening! Haha My work as a hypnotherapist and working with trauma clients/migrants have been so humbling. I have seen a lot and also been vicariously exposed to. Blake asked why I laugh a lot and I quipped with “isn’t it a great problem to have?” Haha. He agreed. 😊 at another time, my nephew David shared that he wouldn’t ever get lost (in a shopping centre) or elsewhere because all he had to do was to listen to my laughter and he would find his way. My heart melted 🥰😜

      @@arnoldhauk7195 HNY to you too!! Yes, we made it safe after all of that!! Haha! It was also fun with the group that we got stuck with. It really made a huge difference with right the perspective of working together and enjoying the moments! Most of our feet are still sore from having to walk barefoot through the mud (and navigating sunken oyster beds or sharp rocks or shells). Ricky sustained a minor head and bottom injury during his fall. But I think it was his ego that hurt the most with me laughing so hard when he fell over. TBH I didn’t know he got hurt, thankfully not so much. 😊 We hope you enjoy the rest of what we share on our channel!! Here’s our curated playlist from the top end of Australia!
