Deep & raging CROC INFESTED RIVER crossing attempt - do we make it? No fuel & water in the Kimberley

  • If there's one place you don't want to have a breakage, it's in the middle of the wild and remote Kimberley. 😳
We're in the middle of a huge outback adventure… and things are heating up!
Part 1 👉 • STUCK IN CROC INFESTED...
    Part 2 👉 • HOPELESSLY STRANDED in...
Right now, we're 12 days into one of the greatest and most challenging low range adventures in Australia as we attempt to re-open the mighty Oombulgurri track for the season.
🚨 ATTENTION MELBOURNE 4WDERS! 🚨Shauno & Graham will be back in town at the National 4x4 Show from August 23rd - 25th! Grab your tickets in advance & save 15% by using the code ‘4WD247’ at the checkout! 👉 4x4show.com.au...
After a late wet, the track is pushing us and the rigs to the absolute limit. With huge river crossings, bottomless bog holes, bush mechanic fixes & dense bush making the track almost impossible to follow.
Now, in some of the most remote country you'll find anywhere & hundreds of KMs from help - we've hit a breakage that we could never have prepared for.
Welcome back to the FINALE of our Oombulgurri adventure. 🔥

Experience how much fuel does your car use off road, how much food do you eat over a month, what parts on your car do you usually break, only way to work it out is to do smaller trips and learn
The smaller things people forget about is the like of haveing reliable tide charts, even for coastal driving, and knowing the climate and likey weather your going to hit
The mistake I always make is running out of bread, bread goes moldy super quick in the humidity but wraps last weeks

Drove this track quite a few times back in the 90s when I worked for Striker Resources. I imagine you would have gone past where we used to pump water from Beta Creek and the airstrip at the base of the escarpment once you crossed over the Berkeley River. The track was more used back then with Oombulgurri open. You can still see the old Ashmore and Seppelt workings on Google Earth. We used to drive up as far up the King George River we could get then walk into the falls quite often as well. This vid brings back a lot of memories.

The DMAX is the stand out vehicle here. IFS is always bashed as being inferior to live axle vehicles, but the DMAX was arguably the most reliable vehicle in the convoy for this trip, except for the power steering which isn't a show stopper. I recon if it was fitted with 33" MT tyres and a better front bar it would have been just as capable as the rest to.

I've had to do a similar repair to my old Hilux radiator. That repair was still holding after two years and was still there when I traded it in on my Colorado. I still carry similar putty everywhere!
One thing that sold me on choosing the Colorado was the fact that the alternator is mounted up high on the motor, well away from water or mud!

A trail fix I learned when I was younger is to carry a shaker of black pepper for radiator leaks. This one was big, but it probably would help anyway. The black pepper will be attracted to the "exit" and will help seal the area until a proper fix can be done.

After that we can play but until I have made that trip every spare buck and every spare minute is dedicated to making the trip a reality in my 80 series.

Just to get to visit a place the tourists don't get to go and to get to do it and wet a line with you legends would be bucket-list item ticked for me, Graham. Getting to see the country the way you guys do is a dream. The chance to build a car of your dreams and get to do this is another item.

My favorite trip that I've ever done is the one you are doing. I did the Ooombulgurri/Carson track in 2009. It was tough, but not as tough as yours. Oombi community was still operating, and they were keeping the track open so they could visit the Berkley, which was their favorite community trip. The 100 series we had got its sensors wet and had to go in limp mpde back to Kununurra. My 80 had a 4inch lift and was okay, but i used all my tires. The Oka had the best clearance but was dodgey on side slopes. Kalumburu was more welcoming than it is now, and Honeymoon Bay was just brilliant. I see they have pushed a new track into King George Falls from the Hideaway Bay resort recently (there was one in the early Noughties, too. ) so looking forward to seeing if you find it.

Hay guys another great show throughly enjoyed it, but if I can recommend one thing you should always take is a can of body bog, on the farm I used to hole the radiator of the tractor working in the scrub all the time, and some of the holes you could put your thumb through. I would clean up the area similar to what you guys did and then mix up the bog and jam it in, through and over the damaged area and it would not take long to set up. I would normally wait over night for full cure, never had a failure even under pressure and some of our radiators had up to five large repairs. There is also enough bog in the can to do a couple of decent repairs.
