@@igorlopes7929 all there songs are haha he lost his voice 100% on there last tour sadly, i saw them back in 2010 when mike portnoy was with them and to this day its the best concert ive seen
Yeah but the heavy lifting is done by Matt. The difference beteween the nasal album version & this gritty vocal live version are astounding! Absolutely awesomely done by Matt! Especially the epic part after the orchestral moment!
+SharpWalkers There's not that much of a difference between the album and this version. The album just had a lot more vibrato and control. Less belting and more control makes grit sound weird. His voice is weaker here than it is on the album by lightyears.
***** You're joking right? On the entire City of Evil album Matt's voice is nasal and weak, because his voice was still recovering (Renman interview 55:00), it's the biggest drawback of that album. During the live shows of 2005/06 he got his power back and sounded better he ever did before or after. Another great example is the Trashed and Scattered's live version. The amount of distortion he manages to put into it (which requires a hell of a lot more control than singing cleanly, because you can wreck your voice entirely) is a startling contrast with the album version. So, I really don't know how you can even pretent to come to that conclussion, honestly.
The mixing and EQ doesn’t do the original recording justice. There’s a video titled Making of City of Evil Part 3 which is Matt in the studio. You can hear a lot of vibrato, power, and control when he hits the D5 that’s completely lost in the mix.
@@ExternusArmy just watched that video and this is so true. The final mix kinda sounds like he's just barely squeezing those B4s and that D5 out in great misery, but in the recording he actually has a lot of control and power behind those notes (although we can only hear that D in the making of, but based on that difference it's the same for the whole part)
This song should be played more often on their concerts. When I first heard this song, I fell in love with its. I´m not joking. It´s very complicated. A lyrics, riffs and everything are awesome. I love it so much. It´s my favorite song.
It is one of their best tbh but hey, it would be a nightmare to play live it's hard and it's overdubed in the chorus and those high notes after the bridge are impossible to pull them out live especially with the set they have so 🤷♂️ we can still hope they do someday tho
The biggest problem is just the lyrical lines bleeding over each other, so Matt can’t sing them all. I think Zacky is actually pretty good at singing though
I really love the bridge at 4:38. The vocals are great, and I love how slow and calm it feels compared to the rest of the song. And I love how he rev joins in at 5:21
The bridge I consider as a highlight in Shadows career with the notes he hits and maintains. 5:45 - 5:55 guitar leads are my favorite of all time along with Syns lead in Buried Alive right before Shadows goes into the last chorus of "This is now your life...". This song also has one of my favorite solo's with how bluesy it is. Big fan of that stuff.
@@user-np3gn4oc5v He meant today, songs that are forgotten by the band itself that deserve to be played today, as well as several others from other albums, are always the same all lives
I seriously I'm almost incapable of listening the studio track with this live version out. Infinitely better. Why do they no longer play stuff from City of Evil?! There's more than just Bat Country you know!
They have so many songs they have never even played live and that sucks.. But i think it's because some of them just have so much change in tempo and stuff like that.. i really don't know!
Wouldn't it be fucking great if Avenged played a setlist with a bunch of City of Evil gems??? Kinda like: 1. Strength of the World 2. Chapter Four 3. Welcome to the Family 4. Walk 5. The Wicked End 6. Natural Born Killer 7. Clairvoyant Disease 8. M.I.A. 9. Doing Time 10. Requiem 11. Rememissions 12. Dancing Dead 13. Sidewinder 14. Until the End 15. Seize the Day 16. So Far Away 17. Buried Alive 18. Unholy Confessions 19. Second Heartbeat 20. Coming Home Encore: Save Me
2024 here, the voice of Matt in this period of time was the best of the metal scene, rasp 10+, and very powerful without screaming or growl... miss those times, 4:37 my favorite moment too
Devonshire Pee You'd be surprised how difficult it can be to keep consistent at the pace of the tempo that the Rev plays during the verses. Especially for that long a duration.
That's what I say! He literally doesn't get tired, and feels no strain. You set him on the kit, and he just goes. It's fucking insanse, watching him play
I just think the same, They always play the same stuff, Bat country, beast and the harlot, afterlife and almost easy are great songs but they've played them alot, its time to play other masterpieces like Remenissions, Shatered by broken dreams, Desecrate through reverence, The wicked end, sidewinder, radiant eclipse, M.I.A and more!
I started listening to Avenged after LIBAD, and I simply cannot understand how this song isn't a hit played in every concert. Absolutely shocking to me, one of their best songs and is the least played in both UA-cam Music and other platforms I checked. In UA-cam Music, it has 7 million plays vs 200+ for Seize the Day. Cannot understand the fanbase that overlooks something like this and drools around good ballads that aren't 5% as original or shocking as songs like these.
I think almost all song from CoE Album is underrated. Like Blinded in Chains, Trashed & Scattered, Sidewinder, The Wicked End, Strength of The World. I dont know why mostly people only likes and know Bat Country, Beast and The Harlot, Seize the Day.
Damn i always knew that matt is an insane vocalist but this is out of the world, too good.. and when jimmy join matt singing, i shed a tear, i really miss him..
IMO, their best song on City of Evil. Strength of the World is another one nobody ever talks about. I think that may be just as good. I'd love to hear them play either one live today. Especially with Shadows vocals all healed up, and not using that nasally shit anymore.
This is amazing, I thought it would suck live because it has alot more than 2 guitars in it. But as usual, they pulled it off. my fav A7X song. RIP THE REVEREND THOMELOW PLAGUE
