Should I Buy a Ferrari 812 Superfast?

- Let's talk about the Ferrari 812 Superfast; is this the car that's going to scratch my V12 itch? After last driving Ferrari's super-GT almost 2 years ago, it's in a shortlist alongside the GTC4Lusso or Aston Martin's DBS. Turns out, it's just as fantastic as I remembered...
During a track day held at Silverstone by Topaz Detailing for their clients, I took a better look at this 812 to get a feel for whether it could be the one. A V12 engine is a notable absence from my garage and car collection after selling my former Vanquish Volanted and Ferrari FF. These are engines that won't last forever and we're in a great period of performance and experience before regulations make these kind of things impossible in future.
The 812 Superfast as the name suggests has an 800hp V12 and goes super fast. It's a 2-seat grand-tourer with a front-mid engine that both sounds incredible and drives phenomenally well. When I first drove an 812 I was hugely impressed and in the time since I wondered if I would feel the same way on the second outing - and it turns out I do.
In the Ferrari line-up the 812superfast sits alongside a GTC4Lusso that would be the natural progression from my FF; offering a lot of the performance of the 812 with even more usability with the rear seats and extra luggage space - while sharing a similar naturally aspirated V12 albeit 100hp down. The Lusso also has the notable benefit of having been on the market slightly longer and therefore some cars are available at a lower price point following early depreciation.

Could the Ferrari 812 Superfast be the one to scratch the itch to add another V12 car back into the garage? What about the more practical GTC4Lusso V12 that would more directly replace my well loved FF? Or curveball to the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera? It's an era of incredible cars and amazing options! I'm leaning towards the Lusso; it's an NA V12 from Ferrari, has the added practicality of more seats and space, plus the fond memories of my FF!

Get a 812 its awesome. The v12 sound is the best.
The 812 is the better car, but the Lusso is more practical so it's a hard one.
Matthew Smith who cares about a practical Ferrari? You want practical get a Honda Odyssey.
I disagree on the basis that I have driven both for a month each including on track and in the end; somewhat to my surprise, it was the GTC4 Lusso all the way! The “performance” factor is marginal and you live outside my home country Germany, you will never, ever be able to test anyway!
You don't get a supercar for practicality. In fact, you don't look for practicality in supercars.
Baloo Bagheera Thats what I’m saying! Between the two, the 812 Superfast is obviously the more stunning car, definitely a bit quicker, and more insane. But the V12 GTC4Lusso offers you seating for four, a practical loot, oh and 680 hp which is still absolutely nuts. The 812 has better resale value but offers one to two dimensional driving. While the Lusso offers you a ton (snow, rain, track, weekend, general).
The 812 will draw more attention than the Lusso while also being practical. Go for it!
However it serves a very similar purpose to the AMG GT R being a 2-seat front-mid grand tourer; whereas the Lusso offers the fairly unique format with 2 extra seats and the hatchback looks
@@Shmee150 Get the Lusso. It has 4WD and 4WS to boot. It's surely no contest right. The SF has all the flair and all the power but the Lusso is still plenty enough.

Personally I don't think so.But if your into buying a hatchback v12 which is pretty cool too it's your move buddy.But given you already own a practical car like the g63 I would say go for the 812 trust me you won't regret it.

I think it's probably time! The question is; 812 or GTC4Lusso - I'm currently leaning towards the latter with more seats and more space, as well as the amazing time I had with my FF meaning I know I'd use the car a lot and enjoy it a crazy amount as well.

The V12 of a Ferrari, the sound of the V12, the kick when you upshift and downshift the 7 speed dual clutches, the feel, the experience you definitely need this!

Tim, your best video for a while. Amazing to watch your emotions change as you drop the gears, also showing off your everyday driving skills. Seeing this car being driven as hard as legally possible on UK B roads was a great viewing experience and I think, by your reaction, you may have found the V12 car that needs a place in your incredible garage. Great stuff, video's like this are why I watch your channel.

If you're after a grand tourer like Shmee is then yes. The superfast is much more sportier.
YES! Either an 812 or a Lusso V12 would be so cool! The spec of your previous FF was stunning. Crema leather for the win. If you can; go for it! I'm a big Aston fan too, but between these contenders I honestly think the V12 Ferrari is the better choice in your line-up. And I agree with you; the Lusso is financially 'smarter' with the depreciation they have suffered already. What a life you're living, Tim. Enjoy!

The Lusso is cheaper right so it's also better value.
@@Shmee150 Go for it! It should be everything that made the FF great, with modernizations all around. I'm surprised by the depreciation hits early V12 models have taken already. The Focus RS is 'practical' too, but what a flagship grocery getter a Lusso would be! :P
The Lusso does have the advantage of being around £100k less than an 812 to begin with
Yeh, I feel like it's no contest, it has to be the Lusso because of its Value and practicality.
I mean it might not look as good or be as powerful, or fast but it still looks good, it's still plenty powerful and fast enough too. That plus the practicality and value, it has to be the Lusso.

As much as I would love to see the 812 Superfast in your garage, I think the GTC4Lusso makes more sense!!! It makes more sense financially and it is more practical. If I was in your shoes I would go for the GTC4Lusso. Regardless of which you chose, we know you will continue to make awesome content and enjoy the cars.

You need a v12 Ferrari. Left hand drive 812 or Lusso (812 is better investment than Lusso btw) with full carbon interior spec
and bring the car to a road trip across west coast of Spain, then to the south passing through Marbella, Barcelona and finish in Monaco for Top Marque weekend 😂👍

Not often a black Ferrari actually looks better than its traditional red color. I just saw the 812 in person for the first time last night and the red wasn’t as attractive as the black you have here. That v12 sound is really to die for.

The Aston is a better cruiser, but since you're looking for a proper V12...Ferrari without a single doubt.
The GT4 Lusso is surely more practical (despite its length...), but it's nowhere near as sexy as the 812.
Do you really need those 2 additional seats? I don't think so. I think this car just needs to be a V12 tribute. Let the "practical car" be another one entirely.

@@chiefdenis Pagani's engine IS the Mercedes engine. It's a turbo and it makes no sound compared to the 812 (obviously i'm exagerating, but not too much...). It's also got an entirely different pricetag.
Mercedes itself mounts its v12 on saloon cars... Not an option.
Lambo's v12 is a good one. The sound is very well tuned too. But i think that's the least practical car you can imagine. Ok, practicality comes second, but that's not even remotely a Grand Tourer.

The m120 v12 with equal length headers in the zondas is hands down the best sounding v12 I've ever heard in my entire life, the 812 superfast and la ferrari v12 is a close second.
The sound track was tuned differently in the huayra to mimic the soundtrack of an air plane in order to complement the heavily aviation inspired cockpit and control surfaces. While the zonda sounds absolutely mental, the sound of the huayra has a particular charm to it

It will sound a little strange, but the first thing that catched my eye was all that gorgeous empty parking lot space... That's what happens when you get into running little r/c cars... Over here, not many open spaces to run them, so that place is heaven.

What do you think of the styling and sound of the Lusso Shmee? Personally I think the FF looks a lot better from the front, and the V12 in the FF seems to have a much more raw sound.

I would say you should buy an old vanquish v12 and modify it to sound like the one77. A project car. As the 812 will depreciate a lot.
Wise words; a new 812 at this time for £330k or so has a long way to fall in the next 2 years.
Shmee150 with the arrival of new hybrid cars and affordable electric supercars the new generation is also moving ahead the car market will sure go down a big time
The thing with the 812 is it might be the last Ferrari v12 which is naturally aspirated. I don’t think it will depreciate all that much. Maybe I am wrong, I don’t think so.

Yes. I really like the GT look with all cars. I think it will fit in nicely with the rest of your flock. Silver or Red really works on this one. Not sure if it's as useful as the GTC or FF. Would look good sitting next to them though.

Tim, the 812 Superfast is a beautiful machine and Nabile (sp) has a beautiful car there, but I really think the GTC4lusso is what will fit best. You have several 2 seaters and nothing with 4 seats until the G63 gets here. The GTC4lusso will give you 4 seats and a V12, not to mention a perfect vehicle for all those funny situations where you just need more room on a trip! I would love either car but think the Lusso will fit the collection better and years from now it very well might be worth a little bit more because it is just the quirky kind of different that someone will be looking for in their collection.
