    Video Introduction:
    Michael Dell wasn't the only young entrepreneur to ride the computer boom of the late 1980s and early 1990s from rags to riches. Like Rod Canion of Compaq and Steve Jobs of Apple, Dell turned a fledging start-up into a multibillion-dollar computer empire. But unlike the ill-fated Canion and Jobs, who lost control of their creations as they grew, Dell has managed to hold on to the reins of his maverick venture and achieve the unique distinction of being the computer industry's longest-tenured CEO.
    Following the simple idea that by selling customized personal computer systems directly to customers he could best understand their needs and provide the most effective computing solutions to meet those needs, Dell has made Dell Computer Corp. the world's leading direct computer systems company. In his first month in business, Dell sold some $180,000 worth of PCs. How?

      Knowledge wise we aren't lagging behind its the skill and experience that matters. Also setting up a semiconductor plant involves huge capital and investment. However govt is planning to set up one soon and there is a future ahead where India turns to manufacturing hub atleast in the electronic sector

      The semiconductor industry is a gone game. There is no space for new entrants. The amount of investments required is beyond the capabilities of any govt. And even if someone can do that the technological gap is massive and increasing day by day that trying to bridge it will make you bankrupt.
      What India can do is bring in existing companies to set up their base in India and expand in India

    Im a fan of Dell, have been using Dell products past 25 years, one experience i would like to share.
    Server AMC resolution time is 4 hrs after issue has been identified, once one of the server hard disk failed, dell diagnosed it and identifed the issue and said it will be replaced in 4 hours, i was expecting it would be done only next day, no way they can do it, to my surprise, everything was arranged. Engineer came from one location, hdd was shipped from warehouse, and as promised, resolved in 4 hours, thats when i picked up "Direct from Dell" and read about how they manage it, this was during 1990's.
    Love you Dell ❤️

    Dell has been a success ,no doubt about that . But after years of success , they have been making low level products which are less durable. They have been following the principle of " quantity over quality" at present times. Lenovo has been in a better situation regarding these things. Ganesh Anna , love your case studies . Thank you so much for educating us . Think school will be the biggest digital school of India .

Be it Amul, Dell, Toyota, Ford, Maggie case studies you have done recently all have had a very well set up supply chain that kept them ahead of competition 💯💯

    One thing about Dell is eventually they were able to undercut the builders (myself being one of them back in the days). I used to build much better custom systems for my customers at less cost but once Dell got the costs down to where it was no longer profitable to 'build them', I started buying Dell's for my customers (albeit inferior to the systems I had been building in the past). There was a hitch as those low cost Dells we're hardly upgradable and cut corners with some 'mickey mouse' stuff which meant they had a reduced usable lifetime (aka: disposable computers). Not bad for my business but not good for customers as they tended to hold on to those systems way beyond that 'stunted' useful lifetime.
    Generally, I don't buy Dells for myself (personal systems). However, they were ahead of the game on supporting Linux on their server lines which made them the 'go to' for servers running linux and Dell has good support for Linux. However, this is changing and this 'niche' is eroding. Like IBM, Dell is a company I suspect is a fading 'giant' and really Lenovo has the edge. IBM is remaking itself and Dell will have to do the same before it's too late.
    Ironically, much of the 'on-site' support in the 90's I got from Dell were outsourced to IBM service people. I suspect Dell will need to get off the x86 processor monopoly or their fate will be tied to failing to diversify and will be undercut by less expensive ARM and possibly RISC-V power efficient alternatives. Dell is too tied to MS Windows and even MS has embraced Linux as Azure is their 'cash cow' now and lumbering into ARM and we're getting to the point that the Linux desktop for the masses it's mature and the Windows monopoly will become a problem for this hardware company. Note: Dell does sell Laptops with Linux preinstalled but on the high end.... despite Linux usually entering in the recycle end (aka: EOL systems where Windows can't be upgraded and still be a useable system). This is a problem as Dell's desktops often die after the first 4 years (aka: disposable systems) and use cost cutting 'junk parts' that have no long time support. AKA: not good for small businesses or countries looking to 'move away' from the MS monopoly and reduce costs without losing productivity.

      IBM will be back I think. Their Power 10 is top notch. But the arrogance of charging silly prices for silly items like screwdriver or helmet remains trying to make the customer bonded for life is not right. Such corporate behaviours is what gave rise to smaller brand who were more flexible and open.
      Regarding DELL/HP/LENOVO, they have to leave x86 amd move onto ARM else they will surely become stale in the market. Open Compute Project is breathing down their neck already.

    • @JamesJones-mg3ts
      @JamesJones-mg3ts Рік тому

      @@prashanthb6521 I really hope IBM will be back. I'd just like to see more of it 'accessible' on the average consumer level. I'd love to see Power on NUC's and SBC's and I think that ecosystem has a lot of momentum that could create a lot more visibility with average consumers. RISC-V is an open playground as well and lots of players joining in and I think IBM would do well in this space as well. This 'marriage' to Windows (Dell/HP/Lenovo) is starting to become more 'polyamerous' on consumer level products... creating opportunities.. and I will say that Dell has big leads on other vendors with Linux support and FLVS _but_ there's a lot of competition in this space and it's getting fierce. We will have to see how IBM finds a niche in this rapidly changing market.

    When other channels in UA-cam just trying to make the vedios intresting.
    On the other hand Think School is way ahead by not only making intresting vedios but also by making vedios which even changes the growth and vission of it's viewer.

    Anyone who wants to start busines
    These are the lessons from Dell
    1: he used first principles to buy components at cheap price from vendors and suppliers.
    2: Dell became a big fish in small market from which he learned the intricacies of the market

      Are you telling about niche market ( big fish in small market ) ?

    • @dishakamnani
      @dishakamnani 2 роки тому +2

      @@kidschannel8105 no no, actually it means may be the market is big like the computer industry but Dell started from theri small area that was his town, just like Facebook started from their collage and dominated few near them collages and expanded.
      Another example is OYO which started from Delhi with only one hotel dominated the nearby area and expanded.

    Ganesh sir gave us 3 lessons. But inspite of them you can also learn some more things from video. 1st from the case study we can also conclude that we should segment our market as much as we can and hire experts to sell that perticular market.
    And second thing we can learn for the videos sponsors that how to Target customers. Think schools teaches us the business lessons. So a person who want to become an entrepreneur is was watching think school videos. Now in future if viewer wants to start business but unable to collect enough amount of money, they can go to the zest app and simply split bill into 3 parts. And pay in installments.
    By the way ganesh sir, i love your videos. Keep making such videos and make us more and more knowlegdable.
