Knife Making - Locke's Knife from Game of Thrones

- Longest video I've ever done, original length was almost 20 minutes! There are a couple of things that I in my opinion did wrong during this project. One of them was the tang construction which I wish I'd done differently so that it was more centered. The reason for this is so that I would have been able to set the guard more securely against the tang. It also caused the handle to be slightly offset from where it really should be according to the pictures and video I based the knife off. And also made for a weaker for construction overall I think
However despite all the minor failures during the project, I learned a lot from it and that is what it's all about!
Thanks for watching!

Make N' Create Wouldn't a pin driven through at some point be a lot more secure? You can't really tell it's off centre in the video, it really does look awesome!
Make N' Create Actually we can tell tjat is a little bit offset.. And 2 pins through the handle would be great for strength of tang.. But overall knife looks awesome, u did great job and u should be proud.. Please make more knifes like this in the future, some big rough indestructible looking choppers!!!
The offset isn't noticeable unless you are looking for it. As far as the tang design, unless you are using this knife as a chopper (which a knife should never be used for anyway...axes are for chopping, not knives) then this knife shouldn't fail. You didn't quench the tang and you tempered it correctly. There should be no problem. This is a very nicely made knife.
Quenching in ice water?? Is that what i saw??? Realize just the guard if so but, dam it woud be real! Dam brittle would it not? Infact, sping steal would prob be ideal, ...😕
Maybe thats how sping steal is made... But i though using water as a quench it should be about (160°----180°f°)
*shruggs shoulders* dunno
Ima have to say that the imperfections make this perfect, so ya I still appreciate the vid!
"This'll help you remember." gods that was awesome.
Hmmm! Definitely worth the watch!. I would rank this knife style in my personal top five. I would love to own a knife like this maybe even make my own version.
Great work my friend! :)
Black Beard Projects thanks brother!
Hi how are ya :>
I really enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for your great work and this beautiful videos! This is true art.
I love everything about this knife. We are our own worst critics however this knife totally speaks to me. I think that having the tang were it is lends strength to this knife as a chopper. I enjoy the beauty in the simplicity, The strength in its rugged finish, this is a man's knife.
Brilliant. So naturally captured. Thank you for sharing.
Glad I ran across your you tube; great watching this knife take shape.........especially liked the making/fitting of the collar to the handle!
Really beautiful work. That handlecrafting was inspiring.
Love the look of the knife, it's like a mix between a skinning knife and a bowie
great work - i love this blade - all it needs is a nice sheath
U can make impossible to be a possible...

You shouldn't be so hard on yourself with this one. The work you did was awesome and the result was too. Keep up the good work!
I think you have done it right. Locke is not ment as landlord so it is perfect to do it the fast and dirty way. I like that a lot. My last project was a viking knife mayby you like to watch.

you know its good steel when you hit it, at forging temp, and it doesn't move.

You did an amazing job and I love the slight humor in the editing of your videos. Do you have an online shop or something or is it all done through personal email?
Looks like a kick-ass 1850 Texas borderland Bowie.....
Nice👏👏
Your editing is getting better and better! Although, I am kind of disappointed at the lack of hand jokes :)
Amazing😱🙀👌👌👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍
This Video seems Kinda Relaxing For me
Good thanks
I make all my Bowie knives with the same style tang never had one break.. Epoxy is strong enough without pins for these kind of handles..Pins are for scale handles.
iv wanted a set up like that for long time, I also wanted this knife when i saw how easy it liberated Jaimie's sword hand from his arm :-)
A) USUALLY All that scale should be removed, and NOT BEAT INTO the steal, jeopardizing its integritY, BUT in this case the pitting on the blade ( caused by all that scale ) looks appropriate, given its the goats, it deff wouldnt look right brushed or polished, despite the hollows* pitts* debris* anomalies* guaranteeing weaknesses in the grain structure ( i was cringing the whole time:) despite those issues,DUDE, F*%KING AWSOME AMAZING BLADE THAT IM TOTALLY JELOUS OF. GREAT SKILLS WITH THE HAMMER TOO
5⭐️🌟⭐️🌟

Excellent. I feel like I just watched 10 Alec Steele video's. What I'm trying to say, though I appreciate seeing the build in one video, you may be better monetized by splitting a video up like this into 3 parts. Well done.
Dane Wilson i have thought of doing this actually. Thanks mate
Can you make a video where you explain how you made the forge? I am trying to make one myself, but I need good solutions and I like yours the best. Keep up with the good work, man. I love your videos.
Thank you! but I didn't make mine.
Thank you for your reply! Cheers!
You're welcome. The type of forge that I have is called a feltesse in danish. Which roughly translates to field forge in english. If you search for that (feltesse) on google you will find quite a lot of pictures of the same forge as mine. Could be a help if you plan to build one. Cheers!
Amazing work...do you sell your knifes? Or can you make me a badass chef knife. I will pay just want to know what something like that would cost.
Nice
Ficou muito linda... Faz uma pra mim kkkkkk
you should try to make the daedric dagger mate
very nice build, I loved it. BTW have you bought all your tools? or some family member gave them to you?
Both. Thanks!
Why am i enjoying your video? hahahaha
Satisfying?
Make N' Create yes it is.
does that epoxy really glue the tang with the wood? for how long does it last until there is wobble?
Don't know. if it fails I will just re-glue and pin it.
I was wondering why you didn't pin it after you applied the epoxy?
The original knife is not pinned.
The epoxy he used is strong enough to hold that tang steady. The wood will crack and shred before the epoxy does. Modern epoxys are used to join re-bar to concrete floors in buildings. They can certainty handle a little knife.
@Benja Freeman yep, some models of kukris and parangs are
CRKT (?) sells a bush knife called the 'MaChette' which is nearly identical. About $65. I've got one and it's nice.
This should help you remember
Remember.....what?
Love the video great work only thing is don’t wear rubber gloves if a bit metal or even just clump of scale land on them they will melt it hurts like crazy it’s a once in a millions chance of happening but if it dose you’ll know
Very nice! Missing a hand-chop demonstration though
That is one mean looking blade
That is a nice knife own that and us it
Super)))
ficou bem bonito, mas se ela tivesse aspecto cromada, bem polida acho que ficava mais bonito
Which steel?
P..S.: your belt sander looks awesome
high carbon tool steel. Thanks!
Make N' Create are you the flash?
( you responded fast as lightning!)
perhaps?!
Make N' Create mind blown

can i ask why do u sink the knife on oil ? to make the steel stronger? i know thats a process it has to be done , but curious. Also i wanted to know the oven part. Great vid pal
It's called "quenching," and it hardens the blade. He uses oil because it's an oxygen-free, universally friendly quenching environment. Quench the wrong steel in water and you risk cracking or totally shattering your creation.
If I remember correctly, the oven treatment is to prevent post-quench warping.
C.G. the Jealous it's called tempering and it relaxes/regulates the crystalline structure of the steel it also softens it a little after the quench making sharpening possible
I'm glad one of us is properly informed. I forgot to add "I'm no expert, don't quote me." :)
C.G. the Jealous far from it myself I just happen to know things not everything just enough to get in trouble. You did proper justice to the question at hand though so it looks like we're in the same boat
Couldnt tell how tight that handle fit was but should u maybe pin it? I always wuestion the strength of just epoxy though
I did think about it but I've never ever had epoxy fail on a knife.
The only time epoxy would fail is if it was not mixed proportionately, if the tang is not fitted tightly to the handle, or if there are air pockets.
Superbe
What belt grinder do u use ?
Where do you get the stell???? Great work!! (Im also from Denmark)
flea market that I live close by. :)
``Den røde fabrik``?
nope. Peder most garden
Thanks
What sharpening stone do you use
For your little but cap thing you had, you should have sawn in a stop cut or whatever if you didn't. If you didn't, I didn't see you cut too far at all, but it would have made it a bit harder to do.
The sound of that blower starting up gets me all hot and bothered lol
great video, please make indonesian keris. :)
When are you gonna do another tabacco pipe
لايك 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💓
Are you Danish? Or is your belt sander Danish? Just asking cause I noticed the Danish flag on the belt sander
Chất
Are you from Denmark?
Jep.
oh cool they are swedish
idk man, im always skeptical when you use epoxy or resin to hold together a knife, i feel safer when its a rivet or something.
awesome but it looks off center
