Della was everybody's kinda girl. Barbara Hale won a much deserved emmy for her iconic role of Della Street. Hope you guys at @FETV do the best of Perry, Paul, Hamilton Burger and Lt. Tragg
Soooooo Ms.Della Street, he he he yes....imo she is that whom forever will be T1 "Confidential Secretary" by which all others will be held to aspire to be. And \or Della Street aka 'Beautiful' has set the high Bar !
Don't bother. HBO does not understand what made Perry Mason iconic. Stick with the one and only because THIS is Perry Mason Idk what HBO thought they were doing.
Viewers always wanted to connect secretary Della to attorney Perry or private detective Paul. The producers always teased the viewers about the relationships between Della and both men. She was devoted to Perry, and often worked as a duo with Paul. Paul always called her "beautiful" and she called Paul "beautiful" too. Both were beautiful actors. But, Della had a "work marriage" with Perry and Paul. We never found out anything about Della's private life. Nor, did we find out anything about Perry's private life. We knew that Paul was single, and he would pursue beautiful women in many of the episodes. What was ridiculous about the series, was the fact that Perry, Paul and Della were all super attractive movie star characters, and they were all successful and famous.....yet none of the three could find a mate or partner? In real life, such people would have their pick of partners, lovers and mates. I think the producers wanted the viewers to think that they were in fact eligible to connect with Perry, Paul or Della. And, to introduce mates, partners or lovers into the lives of these three characters, would muddy an already very complicated murder mystery.....so to keep the audience focused on the story, the less they knew about the three main characters, the better. Yet, most viewers were attracted to these characters in spite of the murder plot stories.
I so agree. I think why the series went stale in the end was that the characters were not allowed to develop. After nine years neither Perry nor Della had any private life, either with each other or with anybody else. And Paul was still the love'em and leave'em womaniser he had always been. Unlikely with such attractive characters. I read somewhere that Erle Stanley Gardner had put an embargo on any romance between Perry and Della because he was having a clandestine affair with his secretary and didn't want his wife to think the show was autobiographical. But Raymond and Barbara managed to convey so much with the way that they looked at each other that it wasn't hard to imagine that something was going on behind closed doors .
@@livvymunro1929 I think for this show you didn't need to "develop" the characters much which worked very well because unlike most shows now we weren't subjected to melodramatic soap opera storylines taking away from the cases and mysteries. Though it would've been nice to get the occasional backstory episode or see Perry's parents or an ex boyfriend of Della's or see the woman that Paul conceived Paul Jr. with. I actually thank God they never put Perry and Della together. Today all we get is the tedious and stale will they\won't they trope as well as when they get characters together we get the "Moonlighting Curse". I think Perry and Della stayed so lovable and fun because they didn't turn their relationship into some soap opera romance. The same with the great relationships between Matt Dillon and Ms. Kitty of Gunsmoke, Rick Hunter and Dee Dee McCall of Hunter and Captain Janeway and Chakotay of Star Trek: Voyager.
Dayuum, it's great to think about and comment about PM. However, these are examples of way, way, WAY overthinking. I've seen every episode multiple times. My main motivation in seeing them is the feel-good lift I get for the characters JUST AS THEY ARE!
I was in law (?) office 40 miles north of me, they had at least 15 gorgeous women there! I never got back too see exactly what type of office it was. But I know on one sign said, Lawyer! Must have been 6 offices in the building. To this day, how does one pay to have that many gorgeous women working there!
Della had the sexiest looks ever, beautiful eyes, come hither smile. As a mature black man today I still can't put my finger on what it is but she has it!!!!
Elegance and allure combined, in spades; those eyes and that voice, with its slightly lower pitch, coupled with precise enunciation. She'd look good clad in and old potato sack.
Nobody defines class better than Della Street!
I love her taste in hair and clothes! In each and every show she was impeccable!
Only one that comes close is Joe Mannix's gal Friday Peggy Fair.
I've said that all along. Not much classier.
Desde Buenos Aires soy Edith. Divina me encanta.
She was the best and most beautiful!!!
She’s so sweet!
Loved her on Perry Mason
Loved Perry Mason
"If it isn't in those Della we'd better drop it"

Barbara Hale was wow in a small package. "Hello, beautiful," said Paul Drake. RIP William Hopper (1915 - 1970).
He was beautiful and so was Raymond burr ❤❤❤

If I knew I was going to have Della Street as my secretary when I started my law practice, I would get my degree as soon as possible...
Better have a few degrees!

Did Mason pay Della overtime for the hundreds of non-office hours she worked cavorting all over creation?
Perry Mason and Della Street are like Forest Gump and Jenny--they "go together like peas and carrots"!

I know right? It's funny I am pretty old and I only remember a handful of women and some I only saw for a few moments.
She is the perfect mix of sweet and sexy - all class and all woman. There had to be some real women like her at some point
I thought Della was so sweet & very pretty
Barbara Hale was so very beautiful and feminine as Della Street! I just loved her so much!!!❤
