  • Every project comes with it's own challenges, many of which can rob your enthusiasm and greatly slow down your progress. My friend, Big Mike reached out for my help to get his high school car, this 1972 Dodge Charger name the "Green Goblin" running again. He had an engine asembled by a machine shop with a few mystery parts that didn't match up well. In this video, He and I work non-stop for 5 days repairing, replacing, and grinding to get finally get this car ready to start and break in the solid flat tappet camshaft.
    Special thanks to ‪@BigMikesHooptyBarn‬ for including me in his project and helping get it ready for the #nonamenationals 2024.

    Nothing sounds sweeter than a new motor coming to life. Can hardly wait to hear this one. It's been 40 years since my high school hotrod ran. I still remember running it downtown after putting in the Purple Shaft and a guy said, she sure is running rough. LOL

    Some of us have anxiety about needing help. Then we start to deal with it and get a bit of help. Then it starts all over again when we need more help than we thought. Anticipating this a lot of us never even get to the point of asking for because we need more than we can afford. Or we need more than we think is realistic to ask for. Thanks for bringing us along and being the fixer of situations that some of us feel so intimated by. 🙏

    Nice! Those cars were popular back in the 80s when I was in high school. The 68-70s were around but not as much, these 71 on cars were more readily available with the 318 under hood. More of the column shift bench seat variants I recall.

    WOW it's been a long time since I seen under the hood of a 72 Charger there's a lot more room in the 72 than the 73 Charger ,man I miss my 72 but I found a 73 for a decent price and snatched it up, I like the body style but when they changed the front end to the isolated k frame it sure makes it a tight fit for a big block, that 72 Charger sure brings back some memories, my first car was a yellow one that had a 318 , always wanted a big block and now I have one but had to settle for a 73Charger , sure hope your friend/customer has some serious fun with it

    Stock converters will have an O or an X by the offset mounting pad. If not, you can determine the offset on the converter and the flex plate with a scale or tape measure before mating the engine and transmission and mark them at that time.
    Those are some sweet pulleys.

    For converter you only need to install one bolt. Then turn engine. Find hole not lined up, turn back and move one hole and install bolt. Repeat untill all line up. Install and torque bolts. If you move holes same direction, at most it'll take 4 tries. If lucky you'll get er first time

    Why a Single Plane manifold? I imagine it will make oodles of torque but will it rev high enough and safe enough to utilize the full effects of a single plane?

    • @JustMoparJoe
      @JustMoparJoe  5 місяців тому +1

      The torque will be great for that heavy sled. It’s full interior and all. I think the only better option would have been an rpm dual plane. But he had this M1.

    Hi Joe, advice is needed, what is your preferred pre 73 440 motor mounts for the street. I have a 72 440 magnum Charger SE . I returned C.I.'s part number MM7902 due to bad quality.(99 bucks). Hate to spend (300 bucks) on poly loc's. Is there a mod for the stock mount(12 bucks). Also in your experience how much of a nightmare will it be to swap the drivers side? 440 power steering, power brakes and AC in my 72's engine bay.

    • @JustMoparJoe
      @JustMoparJoe  5 місяців тому

      The 440 source ones seemed pretty decent. You can run the polys on the street as well. The transdapt brand failed on the 65 coronet I did last summer. The passenger side had ripped in half. That’s the one that usually doesn’t! As for difficulty, I would disconnect both sides and Jack up as high as you can under the pan with a wide block of wood. It should be pretty open. Bolts may be a little tough to loosen.

    I could swear that at the beginning of this video , you said something to the effect of " Big Mike had this engine built " ? I hope he didnt pay a whole lot for the rebuild ....cause so far it appears to be a sh*t show ! I had high hopes for the shorty , block hugger headers , mainly due to the effort needed to swap out a starter ....but even those , as simple as they should be .....failed miserably . Then the rockers ? I'm hoping there are no wieid noises when the thing eventually fires . I'm feeling pretty bad for Mike right now . Thankfully you're cheerily helping get things right . Best of luck to both of you ....and the car .
