I had a Saab 9-5... close to my favorite car of all time (and I’ve owned a LOT of cars) - but I’d say the only thing I never had to replace on that car, after spending $10k keeping a $1,000 going, was the steering wheel.
    that is all

Massively Awesome! Been afraid to touch that due to previous failures. The buttons on mine fail to work most of the time, and I wanted to replace them, but could not get the bag out. Thanks!!!
Betting you just need a Tech2 programming to work. Be interesting to know. Frankly it seems like the wheel button shifting is a bit delayed on my Aero, compared to just using the bumpstick.

Where did you find an Aero wheel that's not separating?!

I've always wanted to see somebody try this. Can you please get the settings changed with a Tech 2 and do a follow-up video? I have an aero and a 2.0t and I'd like to do the same on my 2.0. You can buy the VCX Nano and do the programming yourself. You'll be in it for less than $200, which is way less than going to q shop with a Tech 2.

took me a while to get a feel for those steering wheel release prongs but once you get a feel for it they just pop out. And yes, you need Tech 2 to marry the paddle shifters, if that option is even available, i guess only way to find out is to connect Tech2

You will NOT be able to get the paddle shifters working on your 2003. When programming the CIM module, you program the paddle shifter option at that time. 2003 software does not factor in paddle shifters and hence will not work on your 2003 Saab 9-3. Marrying modules = programming a module to communicate with the other modules currently on that vehicle bus communication system. This is not marrying issue. Instead, this is about setting up parameters to be flashed to the CIM module based upon year, make, and model of the vehicle in question. I AM THE SAAB GOD AND I HAVE SPOKEN!

Thanks for replying to my post. Everyday is a new day and you learn - I learned! I learned that it is possible (although I have never experienced it) through this channel that you can indeed use paddle shifting from 2006 and up steering wheels on 2003 and 2004 9-3. Because I use local software on my laptop (i.e. I don't go to the epsiportal.com/Site/SAAB website) to do the programming, I was thinking this wasn't possible. I know on my 2006 V6 Aero, you can actually program the CIM module to either turn on the paddle shifting or turn it off. Hence I was thinking this was a software issue whereby the CIM needed to be properly programmed so that it could bus the shifting request of the driver to the transmission control module .....hey.. .what do I know!!??
