  • I can’t get enough of this paperweight mold from CPI! One of these has a flaw in it (so CPI sent me a new one) and I’ve sanded the flaw to try to keep using the mold. The repair isn’t perfect, but it’ll do.

    Almost everything I make I make with the thought that it is for me or a gift for family, I don’t think about cost so much as I do the finished product. When I make repeats that I know I’m going to sell I look at the supply cost, and like you said Tabathas work is beautiful and very cost effective

    I absolutely love those! Casting is one of the first "real" projects (after little blobber-art pieces of jewelry) I taught myself and it is a very soothing method of glass fusing. I made these boxes (with lids) with a Colour de Verre mold and talk about a lot of product, lol! It was very gratifying. Thank you for sharing Jamaison, you always inspire me❣

    Long time viewer, first time commenter. ;-) Your work is extraordinary and I get so many wonderful tips and ideas. Thank you. BUT, I have never had a success with filling a mold with big chunks of tekta. I always end up with little points and needles on the edges that require a lot of cold working, and then I either have to do a fire polish or I just put the results in the scrap pile. Anything you can offer to address this? Again, you ARE a rock star and thank you.

    • @JamaisonSchuler
      @JamaisonSchuler  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for your kind words! I'm not sure what the source of those spikes might be... I often use ZYP boron nitride in molds like this and rarely get spikes. I also try to pile the tekta more in the middle (as much as I can) so that it flows outward toward the mold walls versus sliding down the walls. Other than this, I don't have a lot of ideas...

    • @JamaisonSchuler
      @JamaisonSchuler  4 місяці тому +1

      I don’t… it may be pretty hard to get bubbles out at this point. You could consider putting it back into the mold and firing it very slowly with a long hold to see if any other bubbles come out. Maybe contact the mold manufacturer to see what they might recommend?

    • @JamaisonSchuler
      @JamaisonSchuler  22 дні тому

      I have zero experience with 96 glass… creative paradise (mold manufacturer) likely published a 96 schedule so I would start there. For clear, not much more than good coverage of 2-3 layers of 3mm scraps? I guess that’s hard to say for sure.

      I love your paperweights, they are really good. I’ve done quite a number of regular “domed” paperweights using Tabitha’s regular size murrini. I’d say you are low at $50, yours are lovely. I’ve sold all mine at $200 and yours has the expensive murrini. I priced out the mandalas and the very large ones price out at about $2/each. Also if you ever are concerned with the front being cloudy use a couple chunks of clear billet, it does the trick. Keep up your videos, love them!

    Is there a difference between Tekta and other clear glass other than thickness? You and other glass artists that make videos seem to feel there is but I am not sure why. I even checked the Bullseye catalog and all it says there is that Tekta is available in various thicknesses.

    • @JamaisonSchuler
      @JamaisonSchuler  Рік тому

      I personally think tekta is a bit easier to cut as it seems smoother. And the edges are cut at the factory so there are only straight edges, no rolled edges. Some think of this as less waste (although I never have waste even with rolled edges).

    • @crystalbluepersuasion7556
      @crystalbluepersuasion7556 Рік тому

      @@JamaisonSchuler I do enjoy your rolled-edges pieces. My local glass store must be cutting from full sheets because the pieces on the shelves are all 12" x 12" with clean edges. The only glass I saw with rolled edges were the full sheets of regular stained glass on the bottom shelves. Major bummer.
