The price is realy the issue. That said, the i9 is better for productivity tasks... If the i9 was cheaper, we would have a debate on which one is better. I'm sure some people would go for the i9 for PCs they use for gaming and work.

The Ryzen 7 actually lost for perfomance, it does have the efficency advantage. The problem with the i9 are the bad voltages and bad scheduling while gaming (Hardware Unboxed showed gaming perfomance and efficency increasing by a lot with APO).

More cache doesn't immediately Translate to better performance. Intel's cache is literally laid out flat on the CCD, making its physical contact farther away from CPU cores-especially P Cores. AMD's Cache is stacked on top of main CCD cores. Making its physical contact distance shorter. Shorter distance alone already making huge difference in IPC. Because the electrons doesn't have to travel too far away. That's why Overclocking any x3D CPU from AMD will immediately revoke warranty. Because they also create foolproof measure on the CPU die to detect whether or not it's overclocked.

To start, this comparison IS fair to have the same ram speed. Letting the intel have faster speed is very clearly not making it fair LOL. 4 months ago eTeknix released a video comparing the i9-14900k with the 7800x3d and albeit its a 14900k and not 14900ks, your theory about memory speed was proven wrong on nearly every title he tested (42) especially when it came to 4k resolution. The 7800x3d managed to beat the 14900k in most titles using 7600mhz cl38 ram for both cpus, which performed worse on the amd than the 6000mhz cl30 ram it prefers. Also, theres games that benefit from 6000mhz+ ram speed on the 7800x3d, that is not the max speed it can support. The 7800x3d is the best gaming cpu PERIOD. I think when you look at used prices for recent nvidia cards, it’s really pretty price competitive with the AMD stuff. But the features and driver support are way, way ahead. They’re even moving away from the clunky old nvidia control panel with the new nvidia app beta.
7800x3d is a real gift to gamers half the price intels top stuff for same performance on average half the power draw so you can get cheaper mobo does not heat up like the sun so you can get a air cooler
Performance of these CPUs is similar because of GPU bottleneck. Based on fact that I9-14900KS is under lower usage by 20%-30% than 7800X3D with the same fps, I9-14900KS seems to give much more fps than 7800X3D when both used on 100%. AMD fanboys just err. Not so easy lol.

I've been happy with my i7-12700K (upgrade from 7700K), but if next year's GPU upgrades + AMD CPU keep trending upwards with Intel just...doing re-releases...I might actually consider fully rebuilding around an AMD board. The stability is nuts too for AMD, maintaining sub 80W...that's impressive and means cooling + PSU becomes much less of an issue in terms buying parts.
Get ddr5 7600mhz + for i9 or any other intel 12gen and up and test it again. You will have to see difference, or even ddr4 4000mhz + with tight timings. Why do all of these youtube benchmarkers underestimate ram speed when it comes to intel, just why 😮💨.

I am mainly playing simulator games and I was surprised to see that AMD's chip performs better in MSFS. It used to be Intel IIRC a few months/year ago? I am an intel user (an old 9800X from the now stopped X series) and seriously start to consider AMD as an upgrade.. I am not interested in overclocking as I live in hot country (during summer months) so this is an extra plus point for switching to AMD. Only thing is I've seen in YT that there are some issues with some combinations of certain mobos with AMD cpus they can slowly cook/fry the cpu (and even the mobo itself) even on stock settings.. Intel platforms were traditionally more robust and stable and cpus could not be damaged easily even under OC..

The 14900KS is a CPU for enthusiasts who OC it to 6.3 GHz on liquid cooling and run 8800 MT/s DDR5 memory. But for everyone else, the 7800X3D is great.

When u test solo games i would love to see the performance on 1440p.maybe 4k cause these builds are made for 4k and 2k res imo. I know is a comparison between these 2 in the cpu intensive scenes when u test on 1080p u mainly testing for lows 0.1% in competitive games but for solo players 0.1% matters less. Average fps and 1% lows wich are minim fpses without stutter that's what concers us more.
They test it at 1080p with a 4090 to artificially create a cpu limited scenario to highlight differences between CPUs. For solo games at 1440p and 4k, it's a GPU limited scenario where there is no difference between all last gen CPUs. So take the cheapest AM5 CPU and you'll be fine for a few years and be able to upgrade to another generation later. Buying high end cpu for solo gaming is usually a waste of money.

I don't quite get all the negative comments on intel. 14900k is not focused on gaming. It does a good job ALSO at gaming but is a productivity and multi-tasking monster. 7800x3D is a gaming CPU with all of it's 8 cores available for 3D v-cache. It has a crazy 96Mb of L3 cache and it is also advertised as a gaming processor. It has one primary purpuse and does the job extremely well. 7800x3D - 10/10 for gaming and 7/10 for productivity 14900k - 9/10 for gaming and 10/10 for produvtivity 7950x3D - 9.5/10 for gaming and 8.5/10 for productivity (it also has 8 cores for v-cache, like 7800x3D but requires more fiddling to get all the cores active for games, 7800x3d is plug and play, but in the end it gets similar performance as 7800x3d, perhaps 1% lower results on average). This is the reason why 14900k is 3x the price of 7800x3D...because it can also do much more stuff that is not related for gaming. If you are like me and you are building a PC tower solely for gaming purpuse, get 7800x3D and save some money.
I have a 7900X with my 4090 and my game room stays so hot because of it is almost unbearable. I just ordered a 7800x3d to replace the 7900x and am really looking forward to the lower power draw and reduced heat problems, plus a slight boost in frames and elimination of stuttering due to only having one CCD. I will hang on to the 7900x in case i need to build a productivity system in the future. Its a great CPU but less than ideal for gaming and a monster for power draw.
I don't get it. In the majority of tests like Hardware-Unboxed or TechpowerUp, the 7800X3D has a better AVG and 1% low than the i9 14900K. Why is it the other way round in your tests?
RAM Speed being equal on Both handicap Intel so this is best case scenario for AMD. 7800X3D can only support 6000mhz memory while the 14900KS can do over 8000mhz. So if you artificially handicap the 14900KS to slow speed (Its rather slow for it) RAM you have these results.
Warzone seems to do it with any card not just the 4090 even if you'll use 6700 xt on 1090 you will qllpcate very close to it and 1440p you'll allocate 12 gb vram so I guess they have a point here.

Most of 14900k's cant run stable even at 7800. 7600 is the fastest anyone can rly run, anything above is a silicon lottery. Also you can oc memory on amd, and tighten up the timings.
one big thing i noticed is, in the tests the AMD cpu is always around 50% or higher utilization, whereas the intel is as low as 21% at some spots meaning it seems to have a LOT more overhead implying both sides are really just GPU bottle necked
Damn Intel has fallen HARD, It doesn't make sense compared to the 78x3d it's working about half as hard being roughly 50% underutilized, it temps are ok some times Little bit higher/ lower then the 78x3d, but the major concern is it's power consumption like twice the power for 4 more fps is nuts. Ik it's not gonna happen but I hope that Arrow lake is at least more efficient than its 14th gen predecessor

I know you are trying to compare apples to apples, but I am pretty sure that allowing the Intel processor to run with its maximum memory speed be it 7200, 8000 or 8400 would alter the FPS read out that you are showing here. I am sure that handicapping the Intel processor, based on the memory speed limitations of the AMD processor is the right thing to do, but you might want to make another video that shows "tweaked versions" of both of these processors at their maximum potential. This sort of testing reminds me of putting 87 octane gas on a cammed turbo vehicle, and hearing Scotty saying, "I've given her all she's got captain."
14900ks uses more than the double power to deliver the same or less performance and is more than twice as expensive. But 14900ks is amazing for productivity, where the 7800x3d lacks. If you're building only for gaming, DEFINITELY 7800X3D WINS.

unless it's a specific comp game that squeezes slightly more fps with intel or u do productivity work, there's no reason to not get a 7800x3d for gaming specifically. Far cheaper, mobos are also cheaper, way less power consumption which also makes cooling easier and very stable i might add lol.
From the 13900K, it took 3 attempts for Intel to beat the 7800X3D in raw performance. That too with 2x the power consumption, and it costing 2x more, for just 2 FPS higher. Safe to say, the 14900KS should NOT be bought for gaming.
@TestingGames A comparison could be handy of how much money had been used on electricity, let's say per half an hour or hour of gameplay on AMD and Intel CPUs.
Ryzen 7800X3D wins this battle, but the 14900KS still has excellent gaming performance and is a productivity monster, albeit, with horrible power efficiency. Intel must step up to the plate with 15th-generation Arrow Lake and performance per watt power efficiency against AMD's Zen 5 platform. The 7800X3D is the better investment for most gamers.

Intel's cache is literally laid out flat on the CCD, making its physical contact farther away from CPU cores-especially P Cores.
AMD's Cache is stacked on top of main CCD cores. Making its physical contact distance shorter. Shorter distance alone already making huge difference in IPC. Because the electrons doesn't have to travel too far away. That's why Overclocking any x3D CPU from AMD will immediately revoke warranty. Because they also create foolproof measure on the CPU die to detect whether or not it's overclocked.

5800X3D is too expensive. Might as well buy a new mobo, DDR5 RAM and a 7500f for a little bit more and get the same performance. At least then you still have an upgrade path. 5800X3D should be 200$ MAX based on it's performance.

As an XOC guy myself I would like to share a few words of my own first this guy has paired the 14900ks with ddr5 6000 which is not the highest speed ram which it can support unlike the r7 7800x3d which would not even show any difference with any faster ram because its already reached the limits of the infinity fabric so by this what I want is while the 7800x3d is paired with the fastest possible ram it can support which would actually make a difference the 14900ks on the other hand is not so just to make this comparision a little bit more even pair it with atleast ddr5 7200 also you've told that you have undervolted the 14900ks and with my experience with overclocking and also undervolting the 14900ks it works best with the voltage it comes out of the box with about 1.4V if you try to downclock or undervolt this cpu it will make it perform worse undervolting the 14900ks only makes sense if you don't have enough cooling capacity but then why even bother buying the 14900ks also you've told us absolute nothing about which motherboard you are using for the r7 since mobos could make a difference too that matters as well and lastly it is the SP of the cores of both of the processor you've got that matters also your i9 might have worse cores that other i9's and your r7 might have better cores from other r7's and from all this I don't necessairly mean that either one of them is worse the 7800x3d is the best processor for gaming both in it's price point and from AMD andis meant more for consumers who plays games more than tinkering with settings in bios while 14900ks is meant for enthusiast like myself who like bios and making and breaking records more than playing games but what I'm saying is the 7800c3d is paired with the best it could support while the 14900ks is not and one last more thing which I would like to add is that $749 pricetag might not be worth it to consumers but to us it is I mean almost

To start, this comparison IS fair to have the same ram speed. Letting the intel have faster speed is very clearly not making it fair LOL. 4 months ago eTeknix released a video comparing the i9-14900k with the 7800x3d and albeit its a 14900k and not 14900ks, your theory about memory speed was proven wrong on nearly every title he tested (42) especially when it came to 4k resolution. The 7800x3d managed to beat the 14900k in most titles using 7600mhz cl38 ram for both cpus, which performed worse on the amd than the 6000mhz cl30 ram it prefers. Also, theres games that benefit from 6000mhz+ ram speed on the 7800x3d, that is not the max speed it can support. The 7800x3d is the best gaming cpu PERIOD. The 3dv cache, the way is stacked, makes it harder to cool. I currently have a 5800x3d, and yes you need good cooling.

I think when you look at used prices for recent nvidia cards, it’s really pretty price competitive with the AMD stuff. But the features and driver support are way, way ahead. They’re even moving away from the clunky old nvidia control panel with the new nvidia app beta.

Seeing the AMD CPU at half the price while also consuming half the power and still being within 8 FPS in every single game is just insane.
Performance of these CPUs is similar because of GPU bottleneck. Based on fact that I9-14900KS is under lower usage by 20%-30% than 7800X3D with the same fps, I9-14900KS seems to give much more fps than 7800X3D when both used on 100%. AMD fanboys just err. Not so easy lol.

I've been happy with my i7-12700K (upgrade from 7700K), but if next year's GPU upgrades + AMD CPU keep trending upwards with Intel just...doing re-releases...I might actually consider fully rebuilding around an AMD board. The stability is nuts too for AMD, maintaining sub 80W...that's impressive and means cooling + PSU becomes much less of an issue in terms buying parts.

I am mainly playing simulator games and I was surprised to see that AMD's chip performs better in MSFS. It used to be Intel IIRC a few months/year ago? I am an intel user (an old 9800X from the now stopped X series) and seriously start to consider AMD as an upgrade.. I am not interested in overclocking as I live in hot country (during summer months) so this is an extra plus point for switching to AMD. Only thing is I've seen in YT that there are some issues with some combinations of certain mobos with AMD cpus they can slowly cook/fry the cpu (and even the mobo itself) even on stock settings.. Intel platforms were traditionally more robust and stable and cpus could not be damaged easily even under OC..

The 14900KS is a CPU for enthusiasts who OC it to 6.3 GHz on liquid cooling and run 8800 MT/s DDR5 memory. But for everyone else, the 7800X3D is great.
And the 7800x3d is half the price of the Intel 14900ks. Unbelievable.

When u test solo games i would love to see the performance on 1440p.maybe 4k cause these builds are made for 4k and 2k res imo. I know is a comparison between these 2 in the cpu intensive scenes when u test on 1080p u mainly testing for lows 0.1% in competitive games but for solo players 0.1% matters less. Average fps and 1% lows wich are minim fpses without stutter that's what concers us more.
They test it at 1080p with a 4090 to artificially create a cpu limited scenario to highlight differences between CPUs. For solo games at 1440p and 4k, it's a GPU limited scenario where there is no difference between all last gen CPUs. So take the cheapest AM5 CPU and you'll be fine for a few years and be able to upgrade to another generation later. Buying high end cpu for solo gaming is usually a waste of money.

I don't quite get all the negative comments on intel.
14900k is not focused on gaming. It does a good job ALSO at gaming but is a productivity and multi-tasking monster. 7800x3D is a gaming CPU with all of it's 8 cores available for 3D v-cache. It has a crazy 96Mb of L3 cache and it is also advertised as a gaming processor.
It has one primary purpuse and does the job extremely well.
7800x3D - 10/10 for gaming and 7/10 for productivity
14900k - 9/10 for gaming and 10/10 for produvtivity
7950x3D - 9.5/10 for gaming and 8.5/10 for productivity (it also has 8 cores for v-cache, like 7800x3D but requires more fiddling to get all the cores active for games, 7800x3d is plug and play, but in the end it gets similar performance as 7800x3d, perhaps 1% lower results on average).
This is the reason why 14900k is 3x the price of 7800x3D...because it can also do much more stuff that is not related for gaming.
If you are like me and you are building a PC tower solely for gaming purpuse, get 7800x3D and save some money.
I have a 7900X with my 4090 and my game room stays so hot because of it is almost unbearable. I just ordered a 7800x3d to replace the 7900x and am really looking forward to the lower power draw and reduced heat problems, plus a slight boost in frames and elimination of stuttering due to only having one CCD. I will hang on to the 7900x in case i need to build a productivity system in the future. Its a great CPU but less than ideal for gaming and a monster for power draw.
I don't get it. In the majority of tests like Hardware-Unboxed or TechpowerUp, the 7800X3D has a better AVG and 1% low than the i9 14900K. Why is it the other way round in your tests?
RAM Speed being equal on Both handicap Intel so this is best case scenario for AMD.
7800X3D can only support 6000mhz memory while the 14900KS can do over 8000mhz.
So if you artificially handicap the 14900KS to slow speed (Its rather slow for it) RAM you have these results.
If he acctually used the i9 to its full potential its better. It can use 7200+ mt/s ram which is way higher than the 7800x3d.

Went from a I9-9900k to the 78003DX when it released and im extremely happy with it, including the RTX 4070 TI. Playing on a 3440x1440 OLED
one big thing i noticed is, in the tests the AMD cpu is always around 50% or higher utilization, whereas the intel is as low as 21% at some spots meaning it seems to have a LOT more overhead implying both sides are really just GPU bottle necked

I know you are trying to compare apples to apples, but I am pretty sure that allowing the Intel processor to run with its maximum memory speed be it 7200, 8000 or 8400 would alter the FPS read out that you are showing here. I am sure that handicapping the Intel processor, based on the memory speed limitations of the AMD processor is the right thing to do, but you might want to make another video that shows "tweaked versions" of both of these processors at their maximum potential. This sort of testing reminds me of putting 87 octane gas on a cammed turbo vehicle, and hearing Scotty saying, "I've given her all she's got captain."
14900ks uses more than the double power to deliver the same or less performance and is more than twice as expensive.
But 14900ks is amazing for productivity, where the 7800x3d lacks.
If you're building only for gaming, DEFINITELY 7800X3D WINS.

Power consumption is just amazing. Intel needs couple of years to catch AMD technology.
unless it's a specific comp game that squeezes slightly more fps with intel or u do productivity work, there's no reason to not get a 7800x3d for gaming specifically. Far cheaper, mobos are also cheaper, way less power consumption which also makes cooling easier and very stable i might add lol.
are you using afterburner? if so how to enable RAM clock mate?
7800X3D vs. 14900KS in a nutshell :
6-10 degree higher,
50-70% less power,
50% lower price.
Intel is just like "Know what? Let's just grab double the power of our competition but produce the same performance with it - genius"
One if specifically made for gaming and the other is made for more multicore applications but the prices on intel CPUs are actually ridiculous…
The 7800X3D is not only better but it has better upgrade path.
Who tf buys an other CPU for gaming than the 7800 x3d over 350 bucks ?
Good evening. It's practically 2.5 times more energy consumption to get almost the same FPS in starfield.

From the 13900K, it took 3 attempts for Intel to beat the 7800X3D in raw performance. That too with 2x the power consumption, and it costing 2x more, for just 2 FPS higher. Safe to say, the 14900KS should NOT be bought for gaming.
@TestingGames A comparison could be handy of how much money had been used on electricity, let's say per half an hour or hour of gameplay on AMD and Intel CPUs.
Ryzen 7800X3D wins this battle, but the 14900KS still has excellent gaming performance and is a productivity monster, albeit, with horrible power efficiency. Intel must step up to the plate with 15th-generation Arrow Lake and performance per watt power efficiency against AMD's Zen 5 platform. The 7800X3D is the better investment for most gamers.
I think a dogtown driving loop or a walk around the black market in cyberpunk would be better. More taxing than corpo center
