    For a builder/carpenter like me that beam structure is like a work of art. If that would be my garage, I wouldn't cover it on the outside, but fill in between, sort of like old german buildings.

      Yeah, I'm the same way. Would much rather see the beams from inside and out.

    I believe it's a 2 x 10, 32' long. As far as the wall covering, it's a LP exterior grade smartside panel.

    I used a concrete anchor sold by Menards. I'm not sure who makes the product. They are super heavy-duty. Four rebar rods are welded to the base of the bracket and the bracket must be placed in wet concrete. Once you bolt the post to the bracket it is super sturdy. You can easily place a ladder on the post...it ain't going anywhere!

    The beam is commonly called "microlam". It is very thin wood sheets glued together under great pressure. The joints are staggered allowing the manufacturer to make them in any length. They are stronger than typical planks of wood too. A real lumber yard (Not Lowes or Home Depot) will carry a variety of sizes.

    • @daycreek
      @daycreek  6 років тому

      The column base anchors are a really hefty steel plate with 4 runs of rebar welded to the bottom. When the concrete was poured, these were placed into the concrete to anchor them. I was amazed how sturdy they were. Bolting the posts to them made for an incredibly sturdy connection.
