    advice I would suggest,
    1) don't dive all in; while you work your daily job for someone, start saving money for supplies, get the website and google page up and start booking on weekends. As more ppl start to call, maybe 2-10 calls every wk consistently, request working part time at your daily job and work maybe 4-5 hrs there and then go back to your spot and work on a vehicle.
    2) visit dealerships and request work. Dealerships will keep you open in the winter.
    3) eventually look to expand and add more services.
    4) answer phone calls and messages asap as many customers are ‘shoppers’ and will more than likely book to whoever answers first and gets em in the quickest

Do it yourself then like I did when I couldn't afford 100 dollar details. You're either disabled, lazy, dont feel like it, won't make time or really don't care if you don't do it yourself anyways. Me: Don't make time or feel like it. Which one or combination are you? The brother is giving good advice in this video.

I have 2 questions. While you're hand washing the vehicle, are you using the clay mitt right after? Also I'm working on adding buffing and polishing to my details. What do you prefer the 1 step or 2 step? I'm kinda confused. Any advice would help. Thanks

Yes, I’m claying right after. I prefer a 1 step but sometimes you will need a 2 step depending on the condition of the paint and how many defects your trying to remove from the paint. They also sell a compound/ polishing mix which is a 2 step in one

One step is a paint enhancement for people who just want it to look more clear and bright but a two step is a bit more refined and removes a bit more imperfections it removes maybe a good amount of scratches and imperfections from the paint. It is an enhancement. One steps paint corrections usually have more fillers to of course try to fill in the scratches as well as abrasives to cut down the scratches and oxidation.
      Two Step
. Compound is the first chemical used it is used to cut down a some of the clear coat. (The clear coat is the small layer of protection that comes with the car) this removes some imperfections, scratches, marring, and tries to smoothen out the rough edges on the scratches.. it is usually a bit stronger depending on what strength you purchase it for.
Most polishes have fillers that try to make up the space in the scratches to make them “flatten” /appear flat and refine what was done with the compound. Due to it being in more than one step it is a longer process but generally seen as more effective in removing scratches and improving the look of the car.
      Clay
When you’re hand washing the exterior you use the foam in this case, do the hand wash (hand wash is just you physically touching the car with the mitt+shampoo or whatever you are using) then remove all the foam with the pressure washer or whatever you use. Then you would use the clay.
But to use the clay you must use a lubricant so you don’t scratch the paint and so that the clay slides nicely. So for example you would spray the lubricant on the clay and the area of the car. Then slide the clay on the paint while applying lubricant wherever necessary.
This would be done on the whole car usually but is usually made faster if you use a synthetic clay. A synthetic clay is usually either a sponge or a towel that still have the abrasives that clean up the paint but it isn’t the actual piece of puddy. They are usually larger and safer to use. But have a little less strength.
So 1 step: paint=paint enhancement or a great improvement on the paint (improvements meaning removing some scratches and filling out as well)
2 step: Usually seen as a one step plus some. Usually stronger in removing scratches and imperfections and leads to more possibility in getting actual perfect paint. But that isn’t usually the goal unless they are paying you for that. (Depends on how long you spend working)
Clay is used as decontamination after you have done your contact wash. It is used with a lubricant.(there are also chemical decontamination called iron removers. You spray them on and it is a stronger chemical that tries to removes contamination but they are usually used before a physical decontamination like the clay bar. For that process you would do the chemical decontamination with the iron remover. When it’s done working you would remove all the iron remover and then use the clay with lubricant as explained before)
You would do a decontamination as a process before you do a paint correction.
You would want to remove any protection that is on the paint as well before polishing but that I’m not 1000% sure in so I don’t want to make any false recommendations. Sorry if I made it even more complicated.
