  • This is what happens when you give the Wide Boyz, Tom Randall and Pete Whittaker a bunch of crack holds and let them play on an overhanging Psicobloc. Things get a little bit jammy at the Boardroom climbing wall.

    And when do we get to watch Matt fall off of the crack route :D

  • @anjawoundedknee3074

    That just looks totally dangerous to me that big drop! I'd be afraid to land awkwardly, especially because the mat underneath the "psicobloc" route is so soft (which I get it needs to be because of the height).

      Anja WoundedKnee the Boardroom is my local gym. That wall is great fun, if a little intimidating. Regrettably, I've seen a fair few injuries on bouldering walls (at this and other walls). I'm not aware of any major injuries on the Psicoblock wall. The mat beneath it is awesome!

    • @anjawoundedknee3074
      @anjawoundedknee3074 6 років тому

      Alright, I might be intimidated easily now especially by height when it comes to bouldering falls since I got a rather gnarly knee injury from one of those a couple of months back! I guess its a question of what kind of climbs you like, I was never much of a highball-enthusiast but if you are that psicoblock wall is probably great fun!

      It really isn’t as nasty as it looks I’m always afraid of the same thing but the team make sure you know how to fall safely before the let you go on it and theres really no feeling like getting to the top

    I really don't get the appeal of crack climbing, just seems painful to me! Guess I'll have to try it one day to know what it's actually like

      stick your thumb between your palm and the wall, will help, as well as proper taping

    • @rushthezeppelin
      @rushthezeppelin 6 років тому +5

      Proper taping helps alot for your hands. Proper technique also helps. Beyond that it's just about enduring some pain until your nerves in your hands and especially feet harden up a bit. Once you get used to crack climbing alot the pain element pretty much goes away. The pain level also greatly varies on the type of rock you are on. Smooth sandstone is fairly painless other than the initial pinky toe pain with foot jams. Big crystal granite is on the other end of the pain spectrum where you've got big crystals jamming into your hands/feet and sometimes bruising them. The only proper trad crag anywhere near where I live is the latter stuff and there's still a few climbs that will hurt me pretty badly. I guess it really depends on what level of masochism you can tolerate in the end. I really do like the added mental challenge that placing your own gear adds though (although obviously you want to just start out on toprope and get used to the technique).

    Laughed hard when 6c turned out to be big-holds-rest-everywhere-route. It's so west Europe grade system, like one full number higher than everywhere in the world.

    • @Tormentor
      @Tormentor 6 років тому +8

      Quite honestly. In the gyms I'm climbing here in Germany there is no way it would be graded as such. Glad that I'm not the only one having this sentiment though.

    • @moonti6820
      @moonti6820 6 років тому +12

      This kind of excess generalization you're making here is also laughable. You're not the oly one with the feeling that this route doesn't feel 6c at all. But just don't assume a whole continent do so.

    • @babsds0
      @babsds0 6 років тому +10

      Exactly, the extrapolation that based on one gyms soft grading system that all western European grades are soft is ridiculous.

    • @stonedTom
      @stonedTom 6 років тому +1

      what exactly is the problem with a softer grading, how is that laughable? how do you grade? the lower you grade a route the harder you are yourthelf? for me this 6C also represents a lot more a lead climbing grading, than a boulder grading, maybe thats the point...

    • @imagzz4942
      @imagzz4942 6 років тому +2

      That's wha ti thought. In my gym, that would be a 6a, but only that hard because it's overhang and got a couple long reaches. LMAO :DD
