Isn't it amazing that just a few years past this they wrote Dancing Queen. These early songs were them learning and developing their own identity.
Honestly that is amazing! It's so cool how quickly they evolved.
These early ABBA-songs sound so 1960's - early 1970's, but so innocent, sweet and "cheery" in their mood. Interesting to see (hear) their development. Soon ahead to a rapid lift off.
No apologies, guys...!😅
The important thing is that you maintain your sincere opinion and points of view...
While this song is not entirely bad (in my opinion) I do NOT have it in my top 90.
It's always good to see Marissa smiling or even better laughing.✌️
Take care guys... see you soon
❤️🇨🇱😘👍
Oh haha I'll have to smile and laugh more then! Not gonna lie -- sometimes I have to remind myself to smile in these videos, which is weird because off camera I smile and laugh a lot 🤣
@@marissa6805 It seems like you are always tempted to laugh
Oh Tyler, could you be a bobblel head on my dashboard 😂?
Love the melody and the music. Can't get past the lyrics. This was very early. I'm not sure they had enough experience writing in English to understand what would come off as cheesy or just plain bad. The growth on future albums is phenomenal.
In fact that was initially issues not as ABBA because it was the song of Bjärn and Benny duo, and Agnetha and Frida participated in this song as backing vocalists.
😀😃🙂Thanks 🙏🏼
Merry Go Round this song was in the Exorcist movie.
U have 2 big reactions left.. The tongue in cheek Our Last Video, which all the 4 members gave their involvement. And the song I'm requesting you for the longest time, the medley of pick a bale of cotton, midnight special and on top of old smokey which the B side of the summer night city single
The next song is actually one of the most beautiful song I have heard .
The evolution of ABBA is a phenomenon
For sure! It also says a lot about their skills as musicians --- as someone else in the comments pointed out, they released Dancing Queen a few years after this. It's just really impressive how they improved so quickly!
Like many early ABBA songs, they weren't very sophisticated lyrically, partly due to having less life experiences to use for inspiration.. Also, they were still improving with writing sings in English .. But the melodies were nearly always pretty good ( as it is here ), with only a few exceptions .. Although this would be lower tier ABBA for me, I think it is still a reasonably enjoyable song.
Funny reaction! I like the end of the song with the final chord change and the repetitive’Merry Go Round’
I think you will like Benny’s albums Marissa from 1987 onwards, nice folk music represented.
Kate Bush uses Gregorian choir on her song ‘Hello Earth’ which is from her mini musical suite: ‘The Ninth Wave.’
Sting discovered a medieval song called ‘Come Again’ which is beautiful and enchanting.
Thank you so much for the Kate Bush recommendation! Sting also does a good cover of Flow My Tears, which is also from John Dowland and the song I couldn't remember the name of in this reaction. I'll have to check out "Come Again" from him though!
Twinkling of the star . 🌟 is really good 👍 9 min but you don't want it to end .
Heck, I wanna do it!
Well done on your amazing ABBA journey through their songs,
it seems these are left:
These official ABBA tracks are left:
Rock'n Roll Band,
Santa Rosa,
Ah, Vilka Tider,
Hej gamle man
Pick A Bale Of Cotton/On Top Of Old Smokey/Midnight Special
"Abba undeleted"
And demos like "Just Like That", "When The Waves Roll Out To Sea."
And ”If it wasn’t for the nights ”of course-You must listen to it Both of You❣️🥰
@@annelieviberg3018 I can talk to Tyler about making a reaction to this together.....I just don't know if we will. However, before we rate all the songs, both of us are listening to them again.
I'm not sure if we'll include the demos in our list, but after we rate all the songs, we can probably listen to those.
@@marissa6805please do a reaction to on top of old smokey, midnight special and pick a bale of cotton. The ladies voices in that medley is to die for.. Also ABBA made a mini reunion back in 2004 for our last video clip it's on the ABBA official UA-cam channel
Thanks, Marissa! Thanks, Tyler! 🎠 #TylerCreatesContent #TCCReacts #ABBA #MerryGoRound
Are you guys doing the Undeleted melody?
I'm not sure if we'll do it before our rating videos, but we can probably get to it after that. We'll most likely break it up though because it's very long and we'll have other reaction videos to film.
There is a lot to like in this song. Musically it's pretty interesting. It is of a time and a bit of mish-mash of styles, so it's not among their best songs, but I never skip it when I'm listening to the album.
I definitely agree that the music is good in this song. I think the lyrics just ruined it for us.
@@marissa6805 I think the lyrics are very well done. I noticed that you laughed when Bjorn sang "who wants to do it, I wish that I knew it". the "do it" refers to what he said in the previous lines "who wants to miss me, and hug me and kiss me".
Never heard this song , but in sweden we had Ring Ring in swedish instead..swedish version is good . So this song was not on my LP ...
They sang it also in Swedish entitled "En Karussel" (i.e. Carousel). We must remember that for many years these early songs from the Ring Ring album were not easily available for the average ABBA fan to buy in Europe, UK etc., until quite a few years after their popular albums. So although it's easy to criticise the early formative material, at least you have the opportunity to sample listening to them, which many original 1970's/80's fans never could.
Ring Ring was their first album . 😂
Why do you two make fun of someone efforts and there's no one telling you the truth in the comments section ? Are you two unprofessional enough to realize that English is ABBA second language? It is amazing and worthy of praise how quickly Bjorn mastered the English language in just two years since their first album and wrote timeless lyrics . Give your opinions and stop the mockery. I bet you two can't even learn to speak Swedish and be fluent in it enough to write lyrics in one year. Bjorn is a genius. Writing songs lyrics is harder than composing a tune or melody.
That's not true for me. A good set of lyrics come easily for me, but a good, unique melody can be very difficult.
hello again, dearest Marissa & Tyler
thank you very much for your new reaction and your fidelity to the songs and history of ABBA
"Merry go round (in karusell)
is originally the B-side of single "People need love", the first of the future ABBA
it's one of the firsts songs recording by all four as a quartet, 51 years ago!
these song is before the album was a project to the future ABBA
it's why must be analyzed in that context:
Agnetha and Frida only do a limited choir,
because this was a project to promote the duo Björn & Benny,
and the girls were guest artists
(Agnetha had a contract with CBS Records Company until 1975)
Merry Go Round (1972)
it is also a discreet song, almost acceptable,
with a nice piano sound (harpsichord type?) and a good choir
It was not originally included on the "Ring Ring" album, but as bonus tracks on much later reissues.
It is also one of the weakest (4 to 5pts), but you can hear it
(NOT all the songs you can like and NOT all are good, and this is an example)
You have one more bonus left with "Santa Rosa" and then comes album "Waterloo"
(for me a transition album, the big musical change comes in the third album: "ABBA")
I wish you a great weekend
a big hug from
Buenos Aires, Argentina
South America
Bless yas 😂
Bjorn and Benny were in their mid 20’s they wrote those lyrics with their not very good English back then , originally in Swedish and then English as a follow up to their smash hit in Japan because this sounded Japanese like she’s my kind of girl . But I guess the lyrics are maybe little better than the these ones …out myself too much and that’s why the darkness closes in some and I think there’s something wrong inside …😂 written almost at the same age in your own language 😂😂 just joking I enjoy your analysis
An ABBA Wood track for sure!
Oh well, it is what it is. Bjorn himself wrote the words I Let The Music Speak, so lets take that literally , smirk away Tyler 🤣
I see the song more as a Benny & Bjorn duo and not really an Abba song. The girls are nothing more than back up session singers on it.
Love isn't Easy.....is the m&m song you are speaking of.
Possibly their worst song (along with "I Saw It In The Mirror" and "Sitting In The Palmtree", truly awful). Their debut album, when they weren't even 'ABBA' (they were Bjorn, Benny Anni-Frid and Agnetha LOL), had some real clunkers on it...but there were 6 pretty good songs that showed their potential: "Ring Ring", "He Is Your Brother", "Another town, Another Train", "Disillusion","Love Isn't Easy (But It Sure Is Hard Enough), and "Nina Pretty Ballerina". Note: they re-released "Ring Ring" with sax when they started getting attention, but IMO it made the song worse. The original "Ring Ring" is a classic glam rock/pop song that's among ABBA's top 40, I think. Their best 3 albums are their 3rd, 4th and 5th albums - 'ABBA', 'Arrival' and 'The Album' , which contained a truckload of sonic gems and their biggest hits.
Benny and Bjorn were such consistently great writers. But they weren't here.
the conclusion is that listening to all ABBA songs ,one will find difficult to find any of these songs unacceptable ...they might like one more than another but they are all , at least good pop songs .....I think Benny and Bjorn are probably the only songwriters that survived the passage of time
All I would say is, you write one decent song in Swedish then you can criticise the lyrics. Your laughter is very disrespectful.
Honestly you make a good point --- English is not their first language. I've tried writing songs in German (because I can speak it a little) and it's quite challenging since it's not my first language. The reason this thought didn't cross our mind is because we know ABBA can write some amazing lyrics. However, this was on their first album, so of course the lyrics aren't going to be the best. It's pretty cool though how they improved so much in such a short time!
Thank you Marissa, good reply.
A definite hootenanny singers sound here ( Björn’s former band ) I like melody and chorus ( don’t care about the lyrics . How many stupid boring lyrics are there in contemporary music …. Countless !!
I'm not listening to the lyrics 😂🤔
As the ABBA catalogue comes to an end, can we PLEASE urge Tyler/Marissa to start reacting to CARPENTERS?! Karen Carpenter was the best female vocalist of all time and there's so much crossover with ABBA fans. They'd both fall in love immediately.
jup, not great lol
C'mon - back to the classic tracks - this is not fun to watch . You are at the bottom of the barrel !!!!
Well, we're committed to doing all ABBA songs, which we're almost done with. After we do our rating videos, we'll start reacting to live performances of more popular ABBA songs.
@@marissa6805there are certainly some great performances.
@@marissa6805Please react to their solo projects, particularly the Chess concept album by Benny, Björn and Tim Rice. One Night in Bangkok, Nobody’s Side, Anthem, Pity the Child… so many bangers!
Great and please react to some of the bangers together Tyler did solo !! @@marissa6805
You guys, you cant finish this maratone without ABBA Undeleted, please 🥹 It is part of the catalogue indeed.
