mitchsmith91 double stroke rolls, alternating single and double rolls, buzz rolls, etc. there are plenty of other kinds of rolls but Brann definitely has a favorite
Yeah! Sounds soo good! Two things that I want to hear more on next Mastodon' album: Troy's basslines and Bill's feroucious grunts. And i'm a drummer. Brann is amazing!
It's cool to hear it so loud but honestly it'd be way too much for the actual release. Listen to the guitars and vocals in comparison, they'd be drowned out totally if the bass were this loud on record. I think they just mixed the bass so high because it's a drum cover, which is awesome
I had thought for quite a while that current music had nothing to offer for me anymore until I heard Mastodon. Songs like this give me a new sense of hope that there is still more out there to find and enjoy.
@@screambluemurder101 Last time I saw them was in 2018. He definitely cannot hit those notes, but it's not bad by any means. They still sound killer live imo.
@@marcelstadler Very true, and a good point. I'm surprised he can even sing at all while playing, since most of their songs are just non-stop craziness (at least on the drums). I'm sure if he was doing vocals only he would sound a lot closer to the studio recordings.
I remember bumping into Brann at a King Diamond concert and realizing just how big of a fan he is of the music. So glad to have had the opportunity to meet him, super nice and insanely humble. The best.
This is a context in which blasting fills on every measure works...busy ? Definitely. Overplaying ? No. It works beautifully with Mastodon 's prog metal leanings....this guy is one of the greatest drummers on our planet.
Thankfully Lars has stopped doing that in their live performances over the past couple years. There for a while he made their live stuff unbearable to watch.
Will Castillo Not looking to disagree with u, or start an argument, but did u see their performance last week for Howard stern, some ridiculous drum fills for no reason.
@@JohnDoe-ij7et Yeah man that was horrible. Unfortunately, that's standard Lars mode. I definitely can't see any improvement over the last couple of years. If anything, he seems to be getting worse as time goes on. Playing unnecessary fills is one thing but not being able to keep time as you're playing them just adds injury to insult.
Being amazed that this guy drums this well is one thing. Realising he sings while playing like this is mind blowing. One of the best in the business!! Possibly one of the best there has ever been.
Brann Dailor is The single light I look to during this quarantine lockdown. Thank you for your brilliance my man. The sun squints when he marvels at you.
Where do drummers get that kind of energy from. Not just him but a lot of good drummers seem to have incredible energy to move so fast and accurately. It blows my mind for people to be that energetic. I want that!
He may not be as technical as certain metal drummers (at least when it comes to playing on Mastodon songs, I haven't heard him play otherwise) but he still has mad skills. Some people might say he 'over drums' sometimes, but I think it still fits the music. Also, I love how his drumming has a much larger focus on the hands, compared to many metal drummers than focus more on the feet. In any case, a great drummer. One of my favourites. And that kit sounds absolutely beautiful (though it definitely helps that he is playing it).
I was always amazed at how a drummer's mind works. I understand guitar, but drums are a mystery to me, and seeing Brann perform adds a deeper level of appreciation for the complexity of his drumming. I often feel that his drumming after the Hunter got worse, but vids like this really help me see that it is as tight as ever and actually more mature than before (where his drumming would stand out quite obviously on songs like Battle At Sea, but now it's more like an underlying background but no less intricate). Guy's a natural self-taught genius.
ive followed brann since the today is the the day in the eyes of God that shit ruled my life got to see mastodon in a dive bar in 02-03 there was less than 10 people there this was hickory NC and there from ATL so I got to see them more than any other band I've seen live so much fun its been to long I need to go see them on there next tour please don't forget
Agreed, it brings out the song's emotion so vividly. You can feel what they were feeling when they wrote and recorded it and with this video you see Brann experiencing it as he plays.

Watching him drum is so damn pleasurable (obviously it’s the whole mastodon vibe as well) ! Tripped balls once to one of their albums. Think I crapped my pants
He's my favourite drummer. Great fun to listen to; love the fills and groove. Supreme stuff👍 Also; that drum kit might want to call it's parents afterwards and tell the good news🤓.
Mastodon: Brann, please stop playing single-stroke rolls.
