Not to mention placing Hammerfell on the _eastern_ side of the continent. when he was talking about the mystery of the small boat. Did the last dragon break also break all the compasses in Tamriel?
Having to pick whether or not to support Potema would be awesome lore challenge. Could easily see people wanting to do it as to reignite the bloodline. Nothing says those in power can't just let her take the throne long enough to bear an heir. Let the dragonborn do his thing, kill her again, and raise the kid to be a sane leader. Boom. Septim dynasty reignited. You know those dirty elves would get involved like crazy to try and prevent the rebirth of the true empire too. Drama. Intrigue! Story!
@@marcmielke I made the assumption that they were reviving a body, not a spirit. Could see her possessing a body but that just adds lore implications. Is the bloodline literally tied to the flesh and blood bodies of the septim dynasty or to their souls?
Well there is a tiny problem with your proposition: she is a mad old spirit from 2000 years ago. The only way to bring her forth into the land of the living would be to have her occupy some poor sap through possession and that would invalidate her claim. Whoever she would occupy would NOT have the blood of Akatosh running through their veins since the last true heir of the Septim bloodline died in the Oblivion crisis times. The blood is kinda the thing, since it holds a tiny bit of the DNA and energy of Akatosh. This is why the pendant can only be worn by a true DNA relative of the Septims as the gem itself reacts to the DNA/energy of the wearer. Sadly, as far as we know, the Septim bloodline is dead, unless there are some illegitimate children living somewhere on Tamriel.
@@mancamiatipoola She wouldn't have a claim due to possession? Well get her a hot body and this one will give Potema a legitimate claim to the Ruby Throne. 😏
Yes she does, while still intriguing that Aerin, who doesnt look like a fighter at all, managed to nurse her back to health and get her back to riften on what seems to be his own but not nearly as unbelievable as him just waltzing inside a centurion protected dwemer ruin.
So if you joined the blades in your playthrough and then did the wolf queen quest, would you be obligated to try and help her take the throne rather than kill her? As a blade, it would be your job to see the true septim heir corinated
A dragonborn is always an emperor so after the defeat of Alduin and Mirrak the end of the civil war the dragonborn had probably came to cirrodyl, and probably Titus Mede II wanted to get killed so that the dragonborn can became an emperor and finishing what he started so destroing the Thalmor and rebuilding the empire
@@jotarokujo4727 Was always a Dragonborn, that pact was broken at the finale of Oblivion. Which is why the Blades went causeless till they found one of the other kind of Dragonborn.

Actually, Mjoll states that she some how managed to crawl out of the dungeon and was then found by Aron. In either case, the question of why he was there may still be valid.
Aerin moves in with you when Mjoll does. I always decapitate him. Dumbass doesn't even have a weapon he just uses his fists. _Useless_. Why couldn't Aerin be some lit sword and shield type NPC so he can watch my house :/
@TheEpicNate315, the blades were not bound to the septim emperors exclusively, but rather bound to the dragonborn emperors of cyrodil. their servitude began during the rule of Reman Cyrodil, after he defeated the akaviri (who became the original blades). by that logic this is why they are bound to serve the last dragonborn as well.
as well as it states in skyrim that the blades first oath was to the dragon born and not the septums. so i think the blades would serve you and not her. as their oath to the dragonborn's come first
Maybe Aerin was the one setting the traps and that’s how he got so wealthy. He was looting from the corpses of the fallen but he fell in love with Mjoll. Same story different version but would explain how he got there so quick.
i'd say the most disturbing mystery i have encountered is a person who doesn't understand the saying "murdered to death"... maybe they'll understand it soon enough.
Hey nate, i wanted to mention something in skyrim that kind of confused me but i dont know if you mentioned it, in solitude, one of the priest at the temple of the divines, speccifacly the long hair and bald top dude, after you initate yourself in the bards College and during the fire festival he Will say "I thing Sanguine would be happy with this ritual" or something among those lines.A daedra worshipper at the temple of the nine divines... Interesting. P. S Thanks for making these fun and interesting videos, keep up the good work
I always figured this was just an expression like how being "Sheogorath-Kissed" means crazy. "Sanguine would be pleased with this festival" could just mean it's a really awesome party rather than implying casual open daedra worship.
One other thing that contradicts the Aerin/Dark Brotherhood idea is that in my playthrough, I received a Companions quest to save a citizen who was kidnapped by vampires. That citizen was Mjoll. Upon entering the cave, right there in front of me was Aerin facing off with one vampire, with no weapon or armor equipped. Of course he died which any member of the DB would be able to hold their own better. His AI is set to follow Mjoll and I guess he followed her into the cave too. Something weird I experienced.
He got so many things wrong about the whole Potema thing that I am speechless... For example he says that Potema lived thousands of years ago, while in truth she lives 500 years ago. Also he said that Uriel III is her grandfather, while in truth Uriel III is her son.
Your theories about Lillith Maiden-Loom are interesting, but have you considered the possibility that Lillith and Maven knew each other as kids and remained good friends despite their respective social standings?
And Aerin continues to follow Mjoll even after you marry her. I don’t understand why that’s the case. It wouldn’t have been hard to program a few “I miss Mjoll but I’m happy she’s happy” lines for him when she moves into your house and have him stop following her.
Another weird thing about Aerin: There’s a location in TES IV: Oblivion called Aerin’s camp, and he was supposed to be a master of (I believe) acrobatics. We never meet him in Oblivion, and maybe the names just a coincidence, but idk 🤷♂️
@@nikolashumphrey-howell2478 Maybe he's secretly a wizard? According to Archmage Savos Aren, "What you learn here will last you a lifetime. Several, if you're talented." Implying that a great mage can have an extended lifespan. In other words, humans might live for hundreds of years, and elves for thousands. Although we don't know the natural lifespan of the Mer races, so it's mostly speculation.
The thing about Tiber Septim coming from Atmora is mysterious and all but I’m pretty sure that was supposed to be a Nord legend. Nord culture sees Septim (or Talos Stormcrown as they address him) as a Nord, but the traditional imperial belief, and the most logical one imo, is that he’s a Breton. Which is also funky, because that means the hero-god of mankind is also part elf.
It's a mystery how Nate knows all this information in the game files...and awesome! Thanks Nate, you must spend an lot of time researching and reading, whew. We appreciate you. :)
Since the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild work together sometimes, the people in the Guild would possibly know Aerin, but since they don't I think it's safe to assume, he's not a Dark Brotherhood member.
Remember that the Deathbrand set has two scimitars even though the armor itself is made from Stalhrim. Which is only used by particular groups of nords. Also the dremora pirate that can be summoned in the college of Winterhold carries a scimitar as well. My understanding is that even though they started out as redguard swords, scimitars slowly gained popularity with the pirates of Tamriel and even of Oblivion (in the case of the dremora). The boat at the last point could have been an escape vessel from a pirate ship, whether the escapee was a pirate or a survivor..
Its wierd anyway cus ruins are far from road and populated areas. Its only 200m from the nearest road in the game, but in lore it should be like 20-40 kilometers. Why Arin was there? He...likes to walk in wastelands? May be he is an alchemist, was looking for Ingredients? Then it explains his healing skills.
@@ГнейПомпей-з7х Nercro, but for the record Mzinchaleft is really close to to a main road not far outside of Dawnstar. It's possible that Aerin used to own a merchant caravan.
@@wdoherty3975 In game, but in lore it's like 20-40 km, plus its located in mountains , its hard to find and to reach anyway especially when snow wolf and bears are around. And caravan carts must drive on roads, not snowdrifts.
About the giants ( 15:20 ), in Greymoor DLC of ESO, there's a trial in the location Kyne's Aegis. There are "Sea Giants", culturally seems very nordic and with also weapons and skills (dragon totem for example). Also they are pretty inteligent, compared to the giants inland we're used to, they kinda seem like just taller and very stronger nords. Maybe this sketch is kinda canon? For example, Yandir the Butcher. He's very tall, very very strong, has weird creatures he summons with him. There are even some snake-like creatures, which reminds me of Akavir. Definitely worth to check.
"what on Earth, or I guess Nirn" reminds me that multiple characters refer to Nirn as Earth in Skyrim. Including "Earth Mothers" like why aren't they Nirn Mothers?
@@gryphon4909 I get this but it wouldn't be called called earth on another planet. The ground/dirt/soil here is called earth because you are digging into the planet earth so should be probably use the word nirn
On the Atmora thing, the king being depicted as a Giant isn’t actually all that strange lore wise. Some Nords used to be much larger before they split from the linage that became the modern Tamrielic Giants. So it’s entirely possible that the King of Atmora was from that bloodline and was incredibly long lived due to him possibly being born before the time when Alduin shortened the lives of the Nord’s ancestors.
He is an Imperial, you can't expect him to get everything right, after all... he's an Imperial. ...that's just a Lore friendly way to say foolish and ill informed xD
For the last mystery, we already saw with some other weapons in the game that scimitar can also be the weapons of pirates. maybe this was a pirate wanting to have a big big boat, but without money he just embarked on this and well.....
2:57 Aerin found Mjoll outside a Dwemer ruin after she barely managed to crawl out of there without Grimsever and meeting the Dwarven Centurion. The question isn't "How did Aerin get down into a Dwemer ruin despite being an 'ordinary citizen'?" but "What was Aerin doing near a Dwemer ruin?" Sight-seeing? Walking about the golden woods of Riften?
This video is almost a year old, and I've been binging these videos for the past couple days so I really have no excuse, but I was got. You made me jump at the beginning. My sound was up much higher than anticipated.
14:41 Yeah, it became a land of incredibly terrible, permanent winter. There's a theory all the continents that get destroyed on Nirn are destroyed because of a weaker connection to The Towers, and Tamriel remains cuz it has such a strong connection.
Nate: "Where could this overturned boat have come from?" Us: Could it possibly be a Lifeboat from that ship wrecked ocean vessle in the background of 17:46 ? lol
It could be that the reason the humans left Atmora in the first place was that the continent was slowly going into an ice age, leaving it uninhabitable for both humans and Dovah, and that by the time of Tiber Septim’s departure, the land had become too frozen. In an extension, it’s possible that the Forgotten Vale is part of the newly frozen Atmora, and that the Snow Elves have made the frozen hellscape into their new glacial paradise.
The real mystery is how Aerin is able to just magically appear at your house when you have Mjoll as a follower or your wife. Dude just won't get the hint.
About Aeryn, one time I played through Skyrim doing that radiant quest of Florentius at the Dawnguard Fort, where a vampire has kidnapped one of your friends. As it turned out, that friend was Mjoll, they had fucking taken Mjoll. So I come to the rescue, but upon entering the place, I suddenly hear some madlad drawing his dagger. I turn around, fucking Aeryn rushes past me, straight into 3 bandits - one being a mage - dagger flailing around. Let me tell you, if Aeryn was once an assassin of the Dark Brotherhood, he wasn't exactly cut out for that type of work, as he got burnt to a crisp and caught a couple blows from a two-handed sword. That guy went down FAST.
8:20 Uriel Septim III is Potema's son, Uriel II is her grandfather. Edit: Okay Nate you got so many things wrong about that story that I am not even going to point out everything...
I also love the trademark statement "Only (insert character name here) is in the know and (insert aforementioned character name here) isn't telling. For a 4th spot..."
A raving psychopath who is quoted as saying "I am the Queen of Solitude, daughter of the Emperor! Summon the daedra! I'll trade the soul of every last subject of mine for a little comfort." would be better than a thoughtful old man who was willing to die so that his people could hopefully have a better future? I hope it’s just a joke, otherwise you guys are worse at understanding the lore than Nate.
@@mattrogers6107 he wouldn't have had to die if he had done his job the first time; his "sacrifice" is the barest minimum recompense, and not entirely for unselfish purposes. On the other hand, Potema's ruthlessness inspired her to take action; had Potema sat on the Ruby Throne during the Great War, the result (most likely a mass deportation of souls to Oblivion worse than the Planemeld disaster) would still have been preferable to Mede's display of spinelessness.
Nate, here's something else to ponder.. What if The Dragonborn. SIDED with Potema. I alway wished i had that option in the quest. My character is a Vampire after all. She could have turned on everyone and helped Potema become fully revived.
My grasp at straws for erin: maybe he used to be some famous adventurer and then stopped after he got a big haul. Also with the ruins maybe he was trying to get back into adventuring. Thank you for coming to my ted talk
8:20 Nate you're wrong. Potema was the granddaughter of Emperor Uriel II. Uriel the III. was her son. Source: elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Potema_Septim
I think another explanation for Aaron is that he's a dungeon diver or treasure hunter. Would explain why he was in a Dwarven ruin, his combat skill, and his wealth.
Keep in mind that the Brinehammer is one of several wrecked ships along the coast, and redguards are supposed to be the greatest sailors in all of Tamriel, so I think the small boat is an escape vessel, most likely from the Brinehammer, that washed ashore with its occupant(s) died either at sea or when a big wave deposited it where the Dragonborn finds it.
The real question, tho: Was Potema a Dragonborn? All Septim emperors apparently were Dragonborn, since they were able to wear the Amulet of Kings and light the Dragonfires. If she wasn't, would she have had a true claim to the throne?
There are two kinds of Dragonborn, too. Saint Alessia, the first empress, was considered Dragonborn, but the general consensus is that she was a different kind than the Dragon souled, shouty Dragonborns like Tiber Septim, Miraak, The LDB and such. My belief is that the Septim dynasty were all the same kind of dragonborn as Alessia. Except Tiber, who was a "true" dragonborn. Although some theories call even that into question, saying something like he could only shout because of Wulfharth Ash-King following him around as a stormy cloud. Or something, I don't quite remember the details. Talos' life and even his true identity is very much shrouded in myth...
In oblivion I believe they use the term Dragon blood more instead of dragonborn because their blood line is linked to Akatosh not necessarily shouting and absorbing souls.
The theory with the dragons leaving Atmora is great because if you stop time everything in the zone without flowing time gets shock frosted because the molecules don’t move anymore
Tiber Septim is a Breton from Highrock. This is well established in the lore. His hometown is Alcaire and his birth name was Hijalti Early-Beard. That is a fact referenced in Skyrim in the Ghost of Old Hroldan quest. Tiber only hyped himself up by claiming to be from Atmora. Please note this for the future.
On one of my 1st playthroughs I married her, and "randomly" came home to those 2 in MY bed. He was swiftly excuted.. she parished shortly after for domestic violence
I have a theory that Aerin knew about Sinderion and his time at Sarethi farm. The dark elf woman there said sinderion left years ago but it's never stated how many. I think aerin followed him to black reach and killed him. Sinderion was killed with dwemer arrows, spheres use bolts, Falmer use Falmer arrows and I'm pretty sure the servants only use one handed things so it'd check out that something or someone else killed him. Then aerin proceeded to get rich from selling the artifacts and stuff from down there like the "priceless dwemer urn" that pawned prawn man has in his shop. He stumbled upon mjoll by accident when leaving blackreach

Drama. Intrigue! Story!
Are ghosts fertile?
@@mancamiatipoola it's quite some time since you posted this, but she died in thr 3rd era 136, juat around 500 years before Skyrim takes place
Wait... did Mjoll not say that she managed to drag herself back to the entrance of the ruin???

God Nate! You can hold out on the jump scares, almost fell over
Whenever I get tired of playing Skyrim I watch one video about Skyrim from you and it’s all I can think about for the rest of the day
Hey nate, i wanted to mention something in skyrim that kind of confused me but i dont know if you mentioned it, in solitude, one of the priest at the temple of the divines, speccifacly the long hair and bald top dude, after you initate yourself in the bards College and during the fire festival he Will say
"I thing Sanguine would be happy with this ritual" or something among those lines.A daedra worshipper at the temple of the nine divines... Interesting.
P. S Thanks for making these fun and interesting videos, keep up the good work
Or the priest was against the ritual and was snarky about the daedric God of parties liking it.
yes! how does this never get mentioned! I've always wondered about this.
I always figured this was just an expression like how being "Sheogorath-Kissed" means crazy. "Sanguine would be pleased with this festival" could just mean it's a really awesome party rather than implying casual open daedra worship.
@V-Rex that's exactly what a daedra worshiper would say
@V-Rex yeah but the aedra were the good ones who sacrificed some power to create nirn. the daedra were the selfish ones who retained their power.
You quoted the Priest of Arkay who is a old imperial male. Not the court mage of Solitude

Thought the same they old doesn't mean anything nefarious that they k ow each other.
even villains have normal friends.
And Aerin continues to follow Mjoll even after you marry her. I don’t understand why that’s the case. It wouldn’t have been hard to program a few “I miss Mjoll but I’m happy she’s happy” lines for him when she moves into your house and have him stop following her.
Just kill him lol
I found this out today, I killed Aerin and while searching his body he has two sliver rings 😏
Another weird thing about Aerin: There’s a location in TES IV: Oblivion called Aerin’s camp, and he was supposed to be a master of (I believe) acrobatics. We never meet him in Oblivion, and maybe the names just a coincidence, but idk 🤷♂️
There is no substance here, put away your tinfoil hat.

I can’t stop playing this game.
Do you still play Skyrim?
Remember that the Deathbrand set has two scimitars even though the armor itself is made from Stalhrim. Which is only used by particular groups of nords. Also the dremora pirate that can be summoned in the college of Winterhold carries a scimitar as well. My understanding is that even though they started out as redguard swords, scimitars slowly gained popularity with the pirates of Tamriel and even of Oblivion (in the case of the dremora). The boat at the last point could have been an escape vessel from a pirate ship, whether the escapee was a pirate or a survivor..
They made it sound arin was just walking by and saw her outside the ruins dying. Not that he went in.:)
Yah, he never went into the ruin, it's a mistake in the video to claim that he must have.

Nate: "Where could this overturned boat have come from?"
Us: Could it possibly be a Lifeboat from that ship wrecked ocean vessle in the background of 17:46 ?

Agreed. If two little kids can rob a dwemer ruin.He should be able to as well.
