This was performed on 9th January 1979, studio 2, Thames Television - I still have my original ticket. Im sitting on the stage. NEVER thought I would see this on the net! Thanx for posting and bringing back some very happy memories :)
@@mbogucci1 Well it was. I was there (as was an earlier poster). I don't know how old you are, but it was a common practice for Top of the Pops back then - and fairly common knowledge - that singers/bands lip synced. You can look it up. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_of_the_Pops#Miming
@Mike Bogucci Perhaps mimed is a better word. I know because I WAS there,, whether you believe it or not. So I'm afraid that unless you were there too, you would not have heard/seen it for yourself. I am sitting on the stage on the left hand side with the patterned skirt (and very ugly heavy fringe!) at the beginning and end of the video. I was with my sister and my friend; I still have my entry ticket! Top of the Pops had artists record their songs and mime along to it for the very reason that live performances didn't always go well. And it's not that difficult to mime a whistle! And I wasn't actually asking for your age lol! I've said all I have to say about this, take it or leave it - and I mean that amicably :)
The jewel in this crown, what takes it over the top, is the intro done by the late, glorious and irreplaceable Kenny Everett in his Sid Snot character. Superfantastic. This made my year.
Love that Kenny got real Teddy Boys and Rockabillies to Bop along to this tune. (NOTE) The Kid in the red checked shirt is a young Boz Borrer (guitarist for The Polecats and also many years as guitar/writer etc... for Morrissey)
Great tune; played it in a band in the early 80s. That whole album was killer. The old saying holds true; they don't make music like they used to. Today's crap is shit.
Written by the great Billy Bremner, who performed a cracking version of the song last night at the 100 Club with his terrific Rockpile tribute band Rockfiles
that was a great time for this ol' hippie....sick n' tired of local punk shows, alot of wankers who don't know more than 2 chords....I was yearning for some pure rock.....springsteen answered my prayer, then out came rockpile, then the next thing you know keith and the wino's....the brits had to straighten me out!!!
The guy in back of dave looks like Michael Standing, AKA Ginge from the Tomorrow People. Additionally that girl with the tie and suspenders? Smokeshow!
Singer/guitarist Monti Amundson and his power trio the Blubinos played the hell out of this rockabilly gem in the Portland clubs in the late '80s and early '90s. A Billy Bremner composition under his pseudonym Billy Murray (his middle name).
All those confederate flags on the revelers. Did they think they were going to see Eric Clapton or something? As someone who’s been fortunate to be at many live music tv shoots, I’ve never seen one as chaotic as this. Great stuff. Rockpile was one of the best bands of their time and all of their music holds up.
They were referred to by all kinds of variations. Nick Lowe's Rockpile. Dave Edmunds' Rockpile.....etc. Not sure it's worth getting your knickers bunched about.
This is mimed but on stage, they both played the solo in perfectly synchronised unison. Bremner sang it on stage for that matter, I think this only has the Edmunds vocal because he was promoting the Trax on wax album.
This song is just fabulous
this world needs more Dave
Oh, Rockpile. They were SO great.

I was sitting on the stage also...I'm looking bored....but really I wasn't... honest!
@none noney It was lip synced as far as I remember.
@@Mediacandy Sounds live! Not the studio version for sure, weird!

The great Terry Williams on drums.
There was a life before Dire Straits.
Yes there was, and it was called Man. ua-cam.com/video/V0CyGII86EA/v-deo.html
So underrated as singer and guitarist

Brilliant track which has gone into obscurity for some reason, can't understand why. Great song, great live performance.

Dave's voice just cuts. He is the real deal.
Great song by Billy Bremner. I like his version too, but Dave voice suits it better. Rockpile Rocks!
GREAT video! Pub Rock at its best! Music for drinking large quantities of beer to!
Wat waren de Trouble Boys toen nog lief, en deugnieten te noemen.Ik hoef verder over deze tijd niets toe te voegen.
Great song. Cracking up at the guys in front trying so hard to be cool.
Just awesome singing
Worth it for the intro alone. Very cool.
Great song by a great performer
Love this song
Dave. Great job. The. Best😊😊😊😮😮🎉🎉❤❤❤paul
I loved Rockpile! Thanks for the upload.
I like dave Edmunds singing trouble

Young polecats in the audience bopping !! 😎😎😎

Nick and Billy are completely lost in the crowd. I wonder whatever became of the girl in the green dress...
What a great time to be on Earth. I wish I da been there.
It was a pretty rough time if you needed a job to pay your way.
Fast paced fun. Rock roll
2.17 i love the ted eyeballing the camera !!
About the koolest Rockpile song
Very fine to see this, Thanx
Love dave ❤❤
Wow Love you Dave and of course your Music
Lekkere muziek , lekkere meiden ,ruige motor, mooie tijd .
What a gem! Thanks for the upload :)
How often do you get to see Noddy Holder and Bobby Wheeler from Taxi dancing on stage to Rock pile?.
Nah, that's not Noddy
@@PaulJohnson-yw9gi I think it's the actor that Played Ginge on the Tomorrow People, Michael Standing. Looks an awful lot like him!
HAHAHAHAHAH Brilliant comment !! 🤣😂🤣
Love that album. Tracks on Wax 4

I'm always sad that I never got to see them perform as Rockpile. I've seen Nick 4 times but didn't get to see Dave :-(
Same here
Happy Rock'n'Roll
The guy in back of dave looks like Michael Standing, AKA Ginge from the Tomorrow People.
Additionally that girl with the tie and suspenders? Smokeshow!
that ted on 2.16 is brilliant !
This singer and player can operate in a zoo-like environment. Kudos because that's not studio.
Singer/guitarist Monti Amundson and his power trio the Blubinos played the hell out of this rockabilly gem in the Portland clubs in the late '80s and early '90s. A Billy Bremner composition under his pseudonym Billy Murray (his middle name).
THIS!!!!!!
Who can do this live now!! No one!
Written by Billy bremner , in the uk thin Lizzy had small hit with it .
Carajo. esta rolita para toda la super banda. odiada del barrio loco de la pera loca cd necia.toriz.

No,it was just a sign for the Teddyboy movement in the early 80´s ....No politics! Rockabilly music born in the south .
Over time, the confederate flag just became synonymous with the region. Not everyone who branded it did it for political purposes.
Rockabilly rules
why isn't billy singing? this is the song he usually steps forward for!
Great Stuff, Nick didn't get much camera time in this one!
The band was Rockpile, not Dave Edmunds and Rockpile.
They were referred to by all kinds of variations. Nick Lowe's Rockpile. Dave Edmunds' Rockpile.....etc. Not sure it's worth getting your knickers bunched about.
Could that be Arlene Phillips with Sarah Brightman??
Tu-wenty-five go-rillas all around me...
Late 70's pompadours are quite strange indeed.
I like Dave singing it more than when Billy does.
Pause at 1:27 Bruce Springsteen on Drums ??
Nope that is Terry Williams, later he became drummer for Dire Straits.
It's Terry.
Rockpile = the most overdressed musicians ever. Especially Dave. I've never seen him in a tank top or shirtless in any of his concerts.
Good observation! I did see him once with his shirt all the way unbuttoned. He always looked good whatever he was wearing.
He did wear shorts at the US Festival in 82 or 83, but it was a 106 degrees...
@@dinahinckley273 lucky you dave is gorgeous ❤❤
Who's the chick in the green satin dress ? She' gone man !!! Real gone .
Sarah Brightman, then in Hot Gossip.
Lmfao at the British dude with a rebel flag on his jacket what a goofball

Love it when Billy B goes to the solo and they show Dave's hands
This is mimed but on stage, they both played the solo in perfectly synchronised unison. Bremner sang it on stage for that matter, I think this only has the Edmunds vocal because he was promoting the Trax on wax album.
@@Maltloaflegrande You REALLY think they mimed this? I disagree.
I'm pretty sure thin Lizzy covered this in the early eighties

Teddys... Troubles.
At least they had some nice looking women dancing.

the late 70s teddy boy scene in england!! thats where i would be!!
You're not a Ted until you reach the age of 25. The wanna-bes in the audience are Edwards (trainee Teds.)
Flippy .
