    So would use the Chipper in those instances?

      Absolutely! It's something that I try and work on all year round, but particularly in the winter when it's wet, I'll try and get as much of a square club face behind the ball as possible to prevent any risk of the ball slipping up the face and giving inconsistent launch. Obviously our hands are tied if we're suddenly short sided etc, but it's a good habit to try and practice when you've got the green to work with

    Thoughts on using a winter mat (if the course allows)?

      Great tips, lots I've not considered before. My usual go to is to fly it close to the pin because the green is soft, muddy and wet so it just doesn't roll (so 56 degree wedge for me). Throw in a mat if it's allowed and winter chipping is actually enjoyable instead a dread

      The portable mats definitely take some getting used to. The ball sits up almost too perfectly, which encourages a higher launch and a strike higher up the face, but I totally get the logic and benefit of having a repeatable lie every time if you can get used to that
