It’s because they were raised under it and their mothers/fathers brainwashed them to believe they were being “overly sensitive” to their harsh words that were under the guise of “I’m just looking out for your well-being dear.” So naturally those men don’t side with their women who get upset because they remind them of themselves when he felt wounded by those words, but their mothers/fathers convinced them to hate that “weak” little boy.

but the thing is the man obviously used it as payback, i genuinely think he meant for it to be insulting just because he got annoyed by his wife saying it. the wife was probably only saying it cuz its her way of helping him be better, maybe he's just that incompetent. thats why the wife was broken when he did it because it was out of pure pettiness and it was something serious too. so many comments here are about how the husband was full of pent up rage that built up causing him to say that.. pent up rage over your wife helping you not make the same mistakes on small things? it just sounds like a mothery wife and a childish husband

Or, the guy's tone was sarcastic.
Some people react negatively to words, others to tone.
If someone said, "you were so close, honey, I'm sure you will be successful next time," no one would go "wdym by that" unless they are super sensitive.
Butttt, if someone went "you were sooo close, honey, lmao" then yeah, could be not so good since the tone would be petty.
Honestly I don't know whether the girl is being mean or not but from the guy's description, he said she is kinda perfectionist and keeps correcting him. She might have meant well and the correction weren't meant to offend him. Or she could have been a control freak, dunno.
But, what we do know is that the guy was fed up with the correcting and then when she was crying, that's when he had his revenge.
If something slips up and someone asks "wdym", you can still save yourself and explain that you are not being petty if it wasn't your intention. But the guy doubled-down on what he said. And the way he contrasts himself as being the go-getter and educated one while she is not also paints him in a positive light and her in a negative one.
Sounds like he didn't draw the boundary properly, make the girl not to say "sooo close" and then he got more upset over time, letting the resentment build until he saw an occasion to get back at her.
They are both assholes. He for being petty and she for not respecting his wishes and boundaries. They should talk it out properly.

“You were so close” no I agree with the husband. I know how it feels to have your self esteem corroded little by little every day, trying your hardest getting criticized even for the smallest tasks. It’s awful. Honestly I think him saying “you were so close” in the context he did was much more acceptable. It was only one time and it actually fit the situation. Being told “you were so close” every single day about everything you do without ever getting true praise is soulbreaking. If she can’t hear it even once without melting down, it shows that her true intentions with that phrase have always been negative.

Just in case anyone is interested about the identical twin thing and crimes:
It has happened in the past that identical twins got away with crimes by trying to pin it on the other, as then it couldn’t be proved beyond reasonable doubt that one did it over the other.
However, very recently in the Netherlands an identical twin was rightly convicted of rape as they did full DNA profiles for both, which took about two years as identical twins tend to have only about 5-10 differences in their 3 billion DNA letters.

The "you were so close" one is difficult because when she does it, it's about minor things, except imagine hearing that every day when you do those things. It sounds to me like she's trying to micromanage him and he clearly hates it, which is valid. That being said, if your partner has just experienced a big letdown, is crying next to you, clearly hurt and vulnerable, and you use this moment as payback... that's just vicious. Even if it really was the first thing to pop in his head, he kept going so at that point it wasn't just his subconscious, he meant to make her feel worse. I understand that sometimes you can have pent-up issues with your partner but kicking them while their down isn't an appropriate or effective way to solve them.

He saw an opportunity to make her suffer more and took it. I think it's a low blow and not how you handle boundaries in a relationship you care about. Also as other people have pointed out, the tone you use while saying something adds a lot of meaning. You can say "oh, honey, I know, you were so close!" in a supportive way (and noone would ask "what do you mean?") but you can also say it sarcastically, in a mean way. The fact that he couldn't console her when she was in her lowest without these kind of thoughts popping suggests to me that the constant "you are so close" from her side damaged the relationship more than they both realized. This requires both to take account of what has being on and how those little remarks are not so little if repeated over time. The fact that she can instantly recognize that saying "you were sooo close" is not the right answer can help her see that behavior for what it is and stop doing it at once.
On the other hand, as you said, he should also recognize that this was not the moment to make that point. The fact that he wants to make it sound as if though it was an accident that this was "blurted out", is telling me that he doesn't want to confront the fact that he went for a "taste your medicine" type of revenge moment.

My younger sister was still there so I would make sure to feed her if they were running low but after a few times of this happening he eventually stopped threatening me and I was pretty much just a roommate to them after that. I had a job advanced classes and several extracurriculars that took up most of my time so it’s not like I was going out partying and acting crazy but anytime I refused them money or didn’t bow down to them they would start their shit so when I got tired of it I did what I needed to to become as autonomous as I could while still having a place to live. Regarding identical twins, I actually went down the rabbit hole of info regarding that today. What a coincidence. Basically you can't tell the DNA apart. Fingerprints, yes, DNA, no. I just read an article about a man, Kevin Dugar, that spent nearly two decades behind bars for a crime that his identical twin committed. He was only released this year because his twin finally confessed in a letter sent to his jail cell. So messed up cause the twin stood beside Kevin the entire time and promised it wasn't him.

For the getting their cousins arrested one, I’d say NTA. For the cousins to go through the house and take stuff when no one else was there is super shady and something a lot of family members try to do. Her father had a will, so odds are, if he actually promised the cousins that stuff, it would be in the will. Send ‘em to jail

Plus they were clearly WARNED. By family members who are lawyers and therefore likely aren't fucking around. Sorry but I don't have much sympathy for the cousins when they refused to listen to the warnings they were given.

Been going to cosplay meetups for years and honestly some people there just don’t socialize a ton and can come off as awkward or even creepy but it’s usually clear they don’t mean any harm but just don’t know how to talk to people. Sounded to me like the girlfriend got that the guy was just trying to make conversation and was a bit awkward and her boyfriend decided it was his place to step in and be a jerk.

As a twin that onlyfans one is so messed up. I've had similar experiences of people confusing one for the other (thankfully not to this degree). It's a horrible feeling, so I can't imagine this oml.
This video was so fun! The edits were hilarious, props to the editor! 👍Can't wait for the next one

I totally agree on the last one. The lady 100% is cheating or has some illegal side hustle.
