I am pretty sure myself that that is from the recording to season 2, mainly because that is what they are working on right now, but also due to the posture the guy is having looking a lot like the way Legoshi's posture is too.

WHY DOESNT THIS HAVE MORE VIEWS???? I like learned s much in this video and I'm so so happy I did. Beastars is the first thing that I love so passionately and to know the effort put into it and just all this information makes me so happy.
Seconded. Multiple times throughout the video I thought: "wow, Studio Orange used an unconventional but smart approach here." This covered various aspects that I would never have considered. Kind of a pity that despite all that love people still largely resent any shortcomings compared to 2D animation, without seeing all the effort and unique values. Also I kept wondering how OP just figured all of that out as he casually rummaged through the net, haha.
Just wanted to point out something about the voice acting: having the voice actors record before the animation is actually the standard for most of the world(doesn't matter if its 2D or 3D). Japan is one of the few places that do it after. I definitely agree that them doing it before for this helped with the overall story, though.
In 2D animation it's more common to record the audio first. Then the animation can be tailored to the feeling of the voice. It's only really crappy or cheap animation that records after (or dubs, which is a different story.)
As Victoria said, that is more popular with western animation, in which the dialogue and audio is pre-scored, but in Japanese animation, usually the animation is done first with the audio followed afterwards.
Some shows use scratch audio actually, like a rough draft for the voice acting something set in place for the animators to then go off of aswell as the storyboard

It's honestly really impressive how they have handled the CGI with regards to Beastars and Houseki No Kuni, a lot of people seem to think 3D animation is easier than 2D animation but that is simply not true, both styles of animation are equally difficult in their own ways, 3D animation requires not just just artistic skills but technical troubleshooting skills as well, creating a character model designed to be animated is already hard enough, a process that requires skin weights painting, retopology, to UV maping and much more, and thats not even mentioning the actual animating, it's why people normally do this kind of stuff in large teams to spread the insane workload.

This anime is incredible, I hate it when people say stuff like: "eww, why make an anime with furries???" Like bro there has been so much effort made into the anime and u act like this... :V
I've noticed small details that show just how much work they put into it. There is a scene where white Legoshi is talking to Louis about Haru and you can see him figiting with the cloth banners on the railing. That was a keen giveaway that is it motion capture.
I remember seeing scenes of beastars on youtube before it came on netflix so right when it got on i started watching and finished in a day....it was sad seeing people not give it a chance
Things like the amount of effort that they put into the making of this anime it's just incredible to see and even it inspires some people to get into this field to achieve this level of awesomeness.
