Thank you for sharing your story! I related so much to so much of it especially the part where you mentioned telling those closest to you and them replying with “I don’t think you are.” Autism has also become my special interest. My boyfriend even said I was obsessed with it and I was like “getting overly obsessed about an interest is an autistic trait!” Lol he’s been more supportive lately and I’m going to go get seen by a therapist specialized in women with Aspergers thanks to your story !

Being on the spectrum doesn't mean there is something wrong. Just something different the typical. It can be a great gift. And it's time for the world to start educating themselves. It's not fair ppl on the spectrum feel like they need to change to fit into the "norm"

Sounds exactly like me! Unfortunately I was very poorly assessed and was told it is bpd. Hour assessment by a resident and the psychiatrist then said bpd. Which is a previous diagnosis I've had. I was upset. As I scored extremely high on the tests, presented an 8 page document about my traits. Again everything was chalked up to bpd. They even went so far to say that I tweaked the results of the tests, because I was so knowledgeable about autism and so they discredited the results. They also noted how I presented differently on paper, meaning the tests, and then in person; masking, but they figured I was lying I guess, I dunno. People around me don't really view me as autistic either. My husband is supportive but doesn't want to voice an opinion as he is not an expert. I've only spoken to my in laws about it, they haven't really mentioned it since. The only thing that was said was that I certainly hide or mask well if I do have anything. Ironically at my assessment I didn't think I was really masking, but obviously I was, since I pass as fairly neurotypical or slightly quirky, not autistic I guess. I've since put myself on a wait list for another assessment, as I cannot be reassessed in the public health care system, so it is a private clinic which specializes in autism, adult, female, children. Unfortunately it is a year wait time and massive amounts of money.

I actually made my appointment with a clinical psychologist by email. It does happen that way sometimes. And like you, I don't like phone calls.

Omg me too! My phycologistnsaidnat age 43 I was. I'm still sometimes uncertain weather I could have finally found what's been me feeling so different my whole life. When I have doubts I watch videos and though I certainly don it match all videos...there is too much that I relate to.

I’m actually waiting for the results o autism evaluation right now! I saw your post and went to watch your experience but see you’ve privatized your autism videos. This waiting period is harder than the waiting to be tested!

Great videos, I also used psyhology today, though I did it 20 years later than you, but same story really. I don't think there is a huge difference between males and female, just an absense of vocal Tick/stems in females.

mithra73 masking capabilities seem to be very high in females. Stimming may occur, but once masking is employed it is hidden or it is redirected into something typically female, playing with your hair, nails, etc.

Omg I just started watching but I had the same tics when I was younger and they just changed all the time but they said I didn't have Tourette's either. (Ok back to the video). Ok also just like you, I saw a video about autistic girls that an autistic friend of mine posted and and from there Autism became of of my special interests. One of the most confusing things for me is that I'm 19. I live definitely more like an adolescent than an adult and idk if at my age I should see someone who deals with adolescents or adults. If that makes sense

Thank you for Sharing, and i wanted to say you remind me of a young Alicia Silverstone...Thats a good thing! Also may i ask.... i have someone very close to me and was diagnosed on the Autism spectrum....Asperger's. Do females on the Spectrum tend to date males who also are on the spectrum or a Nuerotypical instead or it doesn't matter.Thank you.

RobVoyles idk about autistics in general, but in my personal experience, we do tend to date on the spectrum. Or, at the very least significantly elevated traits compared to gen pop. Ive heard of autistics in relationships with neurotypicals, and i salute that, but personally, it would never work for me haha
