Been using Purple Power to remove paint from plastic for YEARS. Back in the day when we used to paint interior panels on Honda's lol. If you wanted to change it, set it in a purple power bath. Auto Zone, etc carries it as well.
Bro, that’s awesome with the switch back!
Sinister Retrowerkz video today will show that simple hack 😜
Would love a tutorial on how you tapped the lower signals into the parking light setup!
Thanks for the knowledge.
Bang Thumper thanks for watching my man 🙏
Great stuff Chris, thanks. Do you dilute at all? You could also talk about the importance of getting the chrome off before painting or dipping.
Audi B8 Custom Subwoofer Shop hey dude!! I don’t dilute it at all, but over time water will for sure end up in the bucket after going back and forth from water to degreaser.
How much time will be needed to be submerge in the degreaser? Do you put only the concetrated degreaser in a bucket or you did any type of dilution?
Thanks for the tip and what led is in the turn signal!? Awesome stuff keep it up!
irishmurf 1 new video today will have that covered for you 👌
If done on fog or headlight housings.... how does it interfere with the throw of the light? Being that some of the chrome is there for reflection and throwing the beam out.
also, is it just the Zep in the bucket, or have you added any water? thanks!
Hi Chris! Quick question. I have a 2012 Nissan Rogue and I wanted to remove the front plastic grille, remove the chrome and then paint it black. Will this product work? Thanks
BEEN WAITING SINCE YOU MENTIONED IT! LOL
Retroworks Lighting haha sorry I took so long!
@@flyryde well worth it! Tons of amazing content during the wait so, well done bud!
I got a 2020 GMC sierra. I was able to get a Denali chrome grill and would like to color match the outter bezal anl black out the inner grill. Was wondering if this would work on a OEM grill?
Hi! So i plan to do this. Just wondering if the chrome headlight housing is black underneath as well ?
Dude. How can i get a few of them awesome stuff that you use all the way in South Africa
I'd love to see the chrome deleted from the 5th gen 4Runner tail lights. It's not possible to remove the lens cover but I never thought of immersing them. Not sure if that would mess up the led brake bulbs.
Could this be done to strip the chrome from the headlight housing instead of painting like most people do? (talking about same car btw)
Do you put just the degreaser or add water ?
was the ZEP diluted? or did you just use straight cleaner in the bucket?
I want to do this on my 2002 Ford Focus SVT Mach HID headlights its all chrome inside with black plastic underneath? Is it good to leave like that? No other type of coating or anything that needs to go over the plastic? like to keep the black from fading??? Would be a super nice touch on the car, already have a full retro fit done on it.
Matt Castle time will tell about the plastic needing any protection. But it’s black, inside a sealed housing, and our tests over the past couple years look great to this day 👍
What about something like the door guard trim? There's a strip of chrome plastic insert on the painted trim of my 08 Legacy that I want painted an accent color instead. Will the dip damage painted surfaces? Can you use a soaked sponge/cotton balls and just go over it?
Bradford Mailloux this isn’t exactly the same as that stuff, or if it is, there would be another protective layer of clear or something to protect the fragile aluminum coating from rubbing off. Inside of the lights the chrome is actually very lightly coated (aluminum) that rubs off without much effort. Same reason you can really clean the chrome if you get something on it.
Does this make the plastic brittle? thanks
will this procedure will work on the headlight itself?
What if my plastic is white and not black under the chrome. Have a 08 Lincoln mkz and light plastic is white in color. Does this create a chemical reaction and turn it black... ?
Any drawbacks from this? And would this work with the headlight housing?
Does this work for chrome on a grille? That cheap plastic chrome
Will this work on the chrome on a grille? Looking to go a black chrome look and i need to strip the factory chrome
Think this would work on a chrome plastic automotive grill? Or maybe chrome emblems and lettering?
King Ave Garage some have said you have to let that sit in bleach for a whole day or two, but no this wouldn’t work the same. The chrome you’re seeing here is actually vaporized aluminum that’s been vacuumed onto the parts, and the degreased just lifts it back off. Different stuff on Grilles.
@@flyryde Gotcha, I'll have to give the bleach a try. Keep up the great info videos!
Nissan juke gator lights (the ones on the hood/fenders) they're only parking and turn signals
Félix Champoux-Deschatelets that’s a GREAT idea! I bet they can be done without taking them apart too!
@@flyryde exactly! and I'll be able to see the result and if I like it I'll do it on my own 2013 Juke Nismo
Hey Chris is this the same process you used on the 370z headlight bezels?
Jay Visaria yes it is 👍
What other product can i use instead of this zep cleaner? Thanks
Wonder if this would get chrome off a grille
Wonder if you could dip the bmw chrome grill surrounds using this technique ? Hmmmm may try it ! 🙈
steve armett that’s a different type of chrome and this won’t work for it but you can use bleach for that it will take about 24hrs in bleach to remove exterior chrome
@@gixxerjay79 thanks for the tip ! Really appreciate it.
steve armett be prepared to paint them after word they aren’t always black underneath
@@gixxerjay79 thanks I already have some gloss black paint especially for plastic 😉
What light kit is installed in the turn signals to pair with the c light?
stockedsc400 new video today will show you exactly that!
I guess you can do the same with he high beam housing right?
Kev Cast you wouldn’t want to unless you did something like a BiXenon projector in the low beam, since it’d kill the function of the high beam reflector.
How would I strip the chrome off my front grill on a YukonXl it is starting to bubble up and I want to color match it my truck is Olympic white
Wolfman76 RC&CarAudio different stuff, but people have recommended soaking in bleach for 24-48 hours for those?
Cool ride. That front plate sux though
Does that solution leave water spots inside the housing or no?
dan m best thing you can do if you want to be hardcore about a perfect outcome in a situation like this, with a sealed housing that you can’t polish: Degreaser first, Water next, then soapy water, then rinse super well and finish by using distilled water.
The water spots will depend on how much junk is in your tap water, and on my case in SoCal, we have notoriously hard water. So distilled will rinse all that calcium and other stuff out.
Having said that, I just used tap 😜
@@flyryde thanks for the detailed reply I appreciate it.
Will it remove chrome from 2017 wrx headlights?
will you do semi headlights
Jamal Turner I’m sure I will! My oven is certainly big enough lol
@@flyryde how much to do a pair of freightliner headlights I just wanna some less to the turn signals
Thanks my bow tie needs that
mark martinez that might need the bleach method?
Damm that's cool man
👍🏽
crazy jay 🙏
I just tried this on my 2021 wrx and it didn’t strip them at all. Even after 45 minutes of sitting in there
What exact part did you do, and what exact solution did you dip them in?
@@flyryde I did the bumper turn signals on my 2021 wrx that are like the ones on this video with the zep industrial purple degreaser
@@dwillinghammer thanks for letting me know. Super curious why it would be different on the newer ones? I wonder if they’re clear coated over the aluminum 🤔 they’re easy to heat up and open for paint, but that’s pretty unfortunate that you’d even have to 😭
@@flyryde yea I was kind of bummed out but I was already installing some aftermarket headlights with sequential turn signals so I just pulled them bulbs from these and put a black vinyl wrap on the front. I’m watching all your videos and signed up for the course on modding the wrx tail lights. I’m trying to learn as much as I can so I can try my hand at making some custom headlights of my own this winter. Thank you for everything
Want to see Chevy Silverado headlights dipped
Juan Gonzalez what year? If it’s older ones, the reflector would become useless if it was dechromed 😫
2004 Chevy Silverado 👍😎
Juan Gonzalez yeah don’t do this on the reflectors or those old lights won’t produce enough light to drive anymore lol.
OK got it 👍😎🤘
How about chrome delete on a tesla model s?
Nathan Gollihar that’d be dope!
2017 Toyota Camry SE
Fooken neatö
2018 Honda civic si
eazyedemons I’m about to do a bunch of Civic stuff!
So....did you figure this out by accident? haha
Jon Howes I’m not sure who first found this method to work? I tried Easy Off oven cleaner and it seemed to eat into the plastic over time and degrade its strength. About 2 years ago we grabbed a bunch of this ZEP, and have used it here and there ever since.
The top half of the dudes arms have been dipped too.
Is it okay to do this with headlights ? Or would that effect the lighting off the headlights ?
Can I use this on headlights as well??
