The tip I got was soften the hand and open the racket face. Also notice how he’s setting the racket where the ball is going to land and is just letting it bounce off his strings instead of swinging at it.
Thanks for the tip! I remember something about relaxing the hand years ago in Tennis Magazine, but forgot about it over the years. By the way, the sound from the slow motion replay of the ball making contact with your racquet and your racquet hitting the court is kind of trippy! 😂
I'd definitely check out PlayMate: www.playmatetennis.com/products/ If you are looking for something individually or more affordable, check out Tennis Tutor and Slinger Bag
I agree with the loosen wrist, but I would advise a more aggressive cut outside the ball to maintain control so there’s no chance of popping the ball up
This is a great lesson. Not an easy shot. Even the hapless high level 4.5 player Mark was in awe. That means a 3.5 must go out and literally drill thousands of these shots.
When it comes to low volleys, should your racket ever touch the ground? I know some players who damage their bumpers because it seems like their racket often touches the court when they hit low volleys. 🤔
Drop volley's are going to be typically hit off of a topspin ball, because you are receiving the ball low, so the ball had to spin to get into that position. Also, you'll be able to send the ball back with the same spin that your opponent put on it. Check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/h8fHqawI-es/v-deo.html
@@EssentialTennis I was just wondering because someone said if a ball was dipping with spin and you held you’re racquet out, the ball would just spin off the racquet similar to how you can’t just block a slice serve by putting you’re racquet out. What do you think about that? I personally thought it was basically what you said
You forgot 2 another important steps: 1) be over 40 2) have a nice little scruffy chin beard Joking, i look forward to hitting this against you later today.
Maybe a little hyper-technical. I prefer to hit the ball with the frame and then act like I planned it. 😁 Happy holidays, ET!
😆 Same to you Gretchen, thanks for watching!
This video is better than a tennis lesson. Thank you.
What I’ve learnt here is that there is no secret, but practice makes it perfect 👍 . Thank you.

Very good explanation. Thank you.

Thanks Ian! I have been waiting for this video since you hit that shot.
Thanks Richard! I knew as soon as I hit that shot in the training session, we had to do a tutorial! Thanks for watching!
Great video Ian
Great lesson!! I'm looking for a good but not too expensive ball machine. Do you have any suggestions?

Slinger Bag is probably your best bet
Great hand skills! Gotta try these drills 👍
Yes! Get out there and let me know how it goes!
I notice you pivot your forearm up to achieve the more open face, nice drills! I’d love to see these in action for some doubles.

Give me a link to look at @Mr.Asianman
@@jayrodiles8562 I will this week :)
How have the Diadem rackets been for you since you got them? I picked up the Nova after hearing about the brand from you and absolutely love it!
They have been fantastic! Really getting used to them and loving it! Glad you're giving them a shot!
Sweet video

the angle of the racket during volley is very rarely talked about !

Yes, if the ball is low enough the only way to hit the ball on the strings is for your frame to hit the court. There's nothing wrong with it.
Your racquet will likely touch the ground on very low volleys and low slices. It's pretty much unavoidable. Your racquet can handle it!
great stuff!
Glad you enjoyed it Jose!
Is it better to hit a drop volley off of a heavy topspin shot or a flat ball?

I remember you should be at least 30 years old to play the short volley with touch. :)
