I got that achievement by complete accident. Britain and france went fascist and poland just gave up danzig. it is to this day, the only achievement i’ve ever gotten.
I literally did a normal Germany run trying to get the true blitzkrieg achievement (or whatever it's called) and got the why die for Danzig achievement when I did Vichy.

11:52 TBH sinking the Warspite is actually more impressive than sinking the Hood, given that that ship somewhat uniquely managed to have plot armour IRL!
The hunt for the Hood was just glorious! Btw 'Shaken, not stirred' doesn't fire in the current version, because PDX... You have to roll back the game version to get it. Also your first coup was perfectly fine and would have gotten you the achievement, you just didin't have Danzig at that point :-)
I like the idea that the entire German military is dedicated to hunting down a single battlecruiser because it has a funny crown on it and a gold outline

It doesn’t affect achievements and I’ve used it a few times, mostly in eu4 and ck2/ck3, but it can be useful in hoi as well
I had the "Why die for Danzig" achievement by accident when I created Vichy France after I conquered Poland but was still at war with the gov in exile. La Résistance DLC was turned off.
On the "Why die for Danzig" I accidentally managed to cheese it, after you beat the allies puppet France and Vichy will annex into them automatically and you get the achievement
I remember when i sunk the hood. An achievement popped up and i was like," ...well that was random." Since I was doing what everyone else does in the British Channel
i accidentally “bypassed” why die for danzig. i had invaded france and they had already capitulated, but i established a collaboration government and it gave me the achievement. i don’t know if it still works but it’s a easier way to get the achievement if it still does
Yo isp you said that you weren’t sure if the Netherlands would reject giving back Willy but they will always give him back if you have more divisions than them.
Finding the Hood is a ridiculous task. I can't even remember where it was hiding when I finally got that achievement. But I kept engaging it over and over again and it would slip away each time and move location. Almost as if the AI knew I was hunting for it.
If you have more than one PC, a video where you control the entire Axis (playing Germany, Italy, and Japan simultaneously in the same game, like a multiplayer game where it's just you) would be unique and pretty chaotic. Managing seven fronts at once, keeping track of all those focuses and research, and being able to seamlessly integrate the production and balance of military forces of each into one superpower would be awesome to see. It also sounds like a frustrating ball ache, so right up your alley, ISP!!!
Actually, organizing a coup in France to get that acheesment works, did it myself 2 weeks ago. Also, the achievment doesn't require to not go to war with Poland
My favorite HoI4 story is when, as the Kaiser, I got "Why Die For Danzig?" After peacefully getting Danzig and the British Empire under Mosley turned France Fascist in a completely unrelated war to me while I was fighting the Soviets. I was incredibly confused
I just randomly got that "Why die for Danzig" achievement when invading Poland as Germany. Its literally my first achievement in Hoi4 and I have no idea how it happened, certainly didnt play for it or knew how the coup and popularity mechanics even worked. Definitely was on historical too...
Something similar happened to me as I completed the focus "Danzig for Garante". That randomly gave me the achievement even tho France was communist (I was playing as the Kaiser"
a much easier way to get the why die for danzig achievement is to play like normal but get a full collab on france. You just invade poland and france like normal but as soon as france capitulates you have an option to establish a collaboration government in france, which qualifies for the achievement.
I love it taking years for you to destroy the hood. I think I got it in a Germany game where I got a successful sealion. I believe I also got the Poland achievement by early warring Poland so the allies didn't get involved, had historical off and they naturally went fascist
You having a hard time finding and destroying the HMS Hood is funny to me because I accidentally sunk the hood with some shitty naval bombers as Sweden-unified Scandinavia back in like 2021, because it was out on patrol in the North Sea for some unknown reason. But it DID also take until 1945, so there's that too lmao.
I got the “Why Die for Danzig?” achievement completely on accident. I’m pretty sure it was a bug. What happened was it was my third time playing Germany, so I thought I would take it slow (as in enter the war in 1941). Since I had done the Molotov-Ribintrov focus, the USSR began justifying on Poland. The USSR would occupy Danzig at the start of the war, but they would hand it over to me once Poland capitulated. I was tired of failed paradrops into France in my previous playthroughs as Germany, so I made sure to have 16 paratroopers (with 300 transport planes to drop them) ready to drop and 2 collabs on France. I joined the war by declaring on the Netherlands through that focus tree. Once France joined against me, they were capitulated immediately. After Poland and the UK capitulated I got the achievement. Not sure entirely what I did to get the achievement. I think it was a combination of being at war with France for less than a day, and the fact that I never declared on Poland. Side Note: I capitulated the UK about 2 months before Japan declared on America. This resulted in the USSR owning Malaysia so Japan ended up at war with China, the USA, and the USSR. They barely lasted a year.
@@ORN227 I think part of the reason I got the achievement was because I established Vichy France. I still have no idea how any of what I did got me the achievement though.

I was playing a non-aligned Ireland and had joined the Axis, and had mined the ever living shit out of the Irish Sea and flooded the area with NAV whenever the Germans had cleared the RAF out of the way. I also had a small wolf pack of mostly German licensed production subs harassing the North Sea trade lanes and carefully avoiding actual naval combat. But, one day while returning to Dublin to upgrade, the unthinkable happened: the Royal Navy arrived, and there was Hood. Well, the tattered remains of the Royal Navy, anyway. They had gotten completely bloodied by the German fleet that they had just barely defeated, then they found my mines, then they found my NAV. And then my outdated, slightly shitty wolf pack of license produced U-boats sank the Hood. What a glorious victory.
