Fun Fact: You actually can get "Georgia on my mind' achievement while staying democratic. You can go to war on the Allies by declaring war on Mexico when they nationalize their oil, they'll join the Allies. Capitulate them and then either join the Axis as they go against the Soviet or let them weaken each other and eliminate them both
The United States can't join the axis while democratic as they cannot join factions led by other ideology majors.
I got it by baiting the UK into attacking me for abandoning the naval treaty in 1936 haha.
Or you can go imperialist america by going the facist route without actually switching to facism so you get the America First focus tree that gives free wargoals in a of the americas, parts of Asia and the majors in Europe for free lol
