Great Review. I'm definitely buying one, because I have bought so many games and apps with google its well worth it. If I had to choose between the shield and the Nintendo Switch, hands down I would get the shield, especially if you already own a Android phone.
the Nvidia Shield is like night and day, when you compare it to the Chromecast. loadtime are quick and format support is much better. also game streaming is a big part that you cannot do with the Chromecast. you can sideload apps for more streaming options and you don't need another device. If you are on the fence go with Nvidia shield TV
Sandisk , model that you recommend have big manufacturing or design flaws, gets very very very very hot for a such device and from what I already see on the internet doesn't last long , and with the good reason taking in consideration how high temperatures reach in normal utilisation. because of you I bought this memory and now I regret
Jon son what problem were you having with this sandisk? if you haven't sorted it try deleting the recovery partition which is preinstalled by the manufacturer and then see if it works.
Jenova Izq the 2017 16GB model Has all the features of the pro with the exception of bigger hard drive and more ports. the main thing you want to ask yourself is do you need 500gb or can you use the setup I have and be good. I wanted to mount mine behind my TV and it works great and I love it.

you can cast a video from youtube and switch to word or playing another game on your phone. the Shield will do the heavy lifting once you start the stream and your device is more a remote than a source
the best solution for external storage is getting HDD with 3.0. not the micro SD card adabter. The HDD will last longer and the transfer speed is way better on the HDD
Hard drives are not as fast in access as solid state devices. so if you are saying an external USB 3.0 spinning drive then I would say you will see slow down when the drive has to wake up. I would recommend an external drive with SSD inside then you get speed and flexibility.
this is truly a one stop shop box. runs smooth and plays everything you can send to it. and for gaming it a nice option. BTW you can get the first gen and still get all the features of this model just the bigger size

can you use 3rd party launchers ? so it has the onscreen soft buttons at the bottom ?
+Phil Buck you can sideload it but the interface becomes a mouse and may board interface. Regular launcher done work well with remotes.

Shield TV is an android TV box. I just connect it to my Monitor directly.
