We have had StarLink for over a year now. It’s hands down better then anything else we have ever had. We have lived Full time off grid in our RV for 15 years. Game changer. Live free!
@@AnAlaskaHomestead What is the ping on Starlink and how much does 'yours' cost per month? Any issues with streaming more than one device at a time or with weather?
We never got over 30mb download with Hughes, so that was kinda impressive. Starlink we've seen speeds up to 300mb download and it seems to be getting better every month. With your latitude you should see improvements going forward as less than half the satellites for your location have been deployed. Another 200 birds are scheduled to be launched this month for servicing northern latitudes. Can't say enough how much we love ours, although our fuel bill for generator has gone up a bit as we're using more electronic gadgets now!
A friend has Hughes in rural northern WI. During a snow storm he has to make sure the snow is brushed off the dish. Also goes a lot durning heave summer rain.
hey hey hurried to get on to see you all , happy your sweety made it home missed her on videos , so happy you got better internet , have an awesome day
Wow. Your speeds are faster than anything I have had in the past 20 years but I am living overseas. Those speeds alone would make me want to move to Alaska.
It’s pretty amazing. I was so used to watching videos at 300 and now I can watch stuff in 1080p. Probably even 4K but I can’t tell the difference on my phone.
We hooked up Starlink this past summer - - it's the very best out there!!! Love it! Funny, the episode we just posted about an hour ago was also about hooking up our starlink! I guess it's a popular topic!
I'm glad you finally got it! Good thing you didn't get the hardware back when you originally ordered it or you would still have their gen 1 antenna. I think the reason that Hughes is so much much faster now is mainly cuz most of the people under the same sky as you have switched up to Starlink, hence freeing up all the satellites that happen to be passing over Alaska at the time. Now you can upload your videos in 1 hr instead of 5 hours
Happy New Year to you both🎉. Hope 2023 is good to you. Good to see Diana back. Everyone that I know that has Starlink loves it. Good luck👍. Looking forward to Wednesday. Take care✌️🇺🇸❤️
Happy New Year to both of you and glad Diane is back and I am sure are the kids (dogs). Have a great day stay safe and warm, oh spring is around the corner.
Hey Brother, Couldn’t help notice those lags into the stump and the head size vs holes. Not sure how wind may play a factor there but as a carpenter for many years I would kindly recommend putting some washers also. Hoping Star link is a game changer for you! Happy New Year! Best always!
Speed = time. 👍 And time is so valuable. Looked like a pretty easy install. I’ll wait for wood stove Wednesday and the up coming stories. Stay warm have a great day you guys..!!
A couple things to consider; Starlink here is $600 for the hardware plus another $150ish for the pole mounting kit and then $120/mo for 300mbs downloads. Hughesnet was $65 installation (includes $50 pole kit) after discounts and -$35 if counting the $100 rebate then $68/month for 60mbs downloads and 4 mbs uploads. I'm sure Starlink is better but the thing is I believe 60/4mbs is enough for us and the cost difference is fairly huge considering we've been living with ATT U-verse 2mbs uploads and .3 (yes point-3!) uploads. In the end over a 2 year span Hughesnet runs $1594 (including rebate), Starlink $3630.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead Starlink costs more and Hughesnet less in the mainland USA? That's interesting, I'd like to have Starlink but we are looking at retirement in a couple of years and I'm really starting to count costs :)
Happy New Year Brian and Diana. Was thinking of you both this morning, wondering whether Diana was back. Hey, did you get your new boat? I can’t remember if you put out a video of that. Hail from the Oil Patch! I'm starting to save up my shekels, five bucks here, 3 bucks there.....cause at my place, the hardware will run me about $750 with what I need. Is the Starlink Sat POE to run the heater, etc.? Glad she's back and you've got some decent speeds....here in the Oil Patch I'm getting 22 Mbps download and 6 Mbps upload using the ATT WiFi Modem, which uses the Cell Towers for the connection. While this may sound slow, it beats the daylights out of the 3G connection I had until Fall last year, which gave me 7 Mbps download and 500 Kbps upload. Costs are 'funky', in that I'm under the 'old' Cricket (subsidiary of ATT) 100 Mb per Month data plan at $55 a month, which is NOW $90 a month for new folks who get the plan. Affordable for me considering I earned about $4500 last year gross. HOWEVER, as you already know, Starlink gives you 1 Tb per month for $110, which is DOUBLE financially what I'm paying, but data wise, is a 10 Fold INCREASE in allowed data.....so pay 2X and get 10X the data......problem is, I don't know if I can come up with that extra $55 a month or not, AND the Original outlay of $750 start up costs (plus the initial $110 for the first month).......ah, the vagaries of living the 'high life' in the Oil Patch! Good news is though, that the Lord has continued to bless me with 3 jobs a month, 4 one month, so not only am I keeping the utilities all on (with only 2 warnings about shut offs if I didn't give them some jingle, during the last 4 months), my food stamps were re-upped and I'm getting $250 a month....so I get to keep eating some MEAT on a regular basis.....thank you LORD! My book is still garnering about 2 sales a month ($5 profit), and I've FINALLY come up with an ending to the last Short Story in my Short Story collection I'm going to be publishing (had some serious issues the last couple months, so writing ooomph has NOT been what I needed it to be) in the next 2 months.....I'll let you know when I publish it........which by the way, I HOPE y'all are keeping a Running Journal of what you've been showing in your VLOGS, so that you can PUBLISH them on Kindle, thus adding another revenue stream to your Island Paradise bank account! Anywho....congrats on the Starlink and the superb increase in speed......."I feel the NEED, the NEED for SPEED!" Take care y'all.......hugs, smoochies, and belly rubs for the Furry Children! Wow that is amazing speed. You have better upload then I have at work on cable. 200/10 Here at home I am stuck with DSL 12/.075. So know the upfront cost is $500 and ya have to wait for a long time to get it but what is the monthly cost? I steered away from Hughes because of the pricing and limits. Keep us updated as I been looking hard at Starlink. Just been waiting for someone I know to get it to really know if it is worth it. Glad to see Mamma home. Bet the airport was a nightmare. Looking forward to hearing this adventure! Stay safe my friends! Happy New Year!!
It’s $110 a month, the same as Hughes net. Unlike HN it’s unlimited we’re HN was 100GB and then they would throttle your speed. We didn’t care because we couldn’t tell the difference😂 Happy New Year to you
Good to hear that you have upped your mbs game. Neighbors down the road have Starlink and they are happy with it. I'm liking our $50 a month internet but then again it was out from 12/23 to 1/5 so that sucked.
Even your slow internet speed is better than ours. I just did a speed test on my internet and I got 1.8 mps download and 0.4 mps upload! Mines a big, famous company. Unfortunately, it's DSL with copper wires throughout out town and the company won't replace them. I'm a little worried about using satellite internet here, because we just got satellite TV and it goes out during snow, ice, and rain storms. Then we have to watch what ever we have recorded, so I have to record lots of shows. You live in Alaska and are doing better than me! Thanks for the vid. I like the idea of the heater Starlink has.

Some are saying you will loose connection a lot. I have less fear about it performing in the temps we get up here though. I’d like to be able to make my videos in 4K but uploading a 4K video to UA-cam with my current connection would take about two weeks! I hope Starlink is the answer! I hope Elon gets his Starlink satellite phones going soon too! 😁

We live with Hugh net for year hated it , cost for small tv service but highest internet service the offer $190 a month but was limited on the internet
Ok Brian, love you guys and your channel. Know you were Army so I'll cut a little slack (Navy myself). But you are off grid! That means no connectivity! 🤣🤣
Please, DO NOT waste your money on Hughes net, every single night we sit down after working all dang day and this is what we get... Maybe 2 sentences, then nothing, about 45 second to a minute we might get a couple more sentences or words!! I literally had to stop my husband from throwing something at our TV!! Also, if there is even one cloud in the sky , a chance of rain, or a tree anywhere around you will get only very spotty service!! Don't waste your hard earned money!! Please
Question, do you have a tall white pole that Hughes installed on your property? There’s a lot of people in my neighborhood that has that now. I don’t know if it’s something new Hughes comes out with.
Hi Brian and Diana. Didn’t see you Weds or today so I’m hoping all is well. Just wanted you to know we miss you. Take care. Hope to see you soon. Sending hugs from. Cape Cod Massachusetts ✌️🇺🇸❤️
Happy New Year Brian & Diana!! That's interesting about the StarLink speeds and their fluctuations. Do they have any explanation as to why the variance??? I'm debating about getting Star Link when I go back to the Ninilchik property next year. I too have been on the wait list for a VERY long time. I don't know if they have come that far north yet or not. 2 questions for you: 1) how much did the longer cable cost; and, 2) what app are you using to measure your speeds??? I divorced NOMAD after they merged with Verizon, upped their costs (would have had to buy a new $700 modem) and speeds to unlimited 5G (which doesn't exist where I'd be using it in Alaska or WV), and a 30GB cap on 4G before they slow you down to snail pace. I just couldn't justify that anymore. My buddy Jim in Kasilof went with with Spit-2-Spot, a local Kenai Peninsula provider and so far he's very happy with that. Check y'all later!! Bill
So what did you put for “service address?” I lost interest immediately since I couldn’t get past that part. Seems my “address” is not listed in their database.
many people have reported that they can use a google "plus code" as their service address for starlink. a "plus code" is basically just a shortened version of a latitude/longitude pair, which you can find on google maps.
I hope your star link continues to work good for you. There is a couple that just recently moved to Alaska, their channel is home free Alaska. They got the star link and set it up, but ended up sending it back while they could still get a refund. She said at times it worked excellent when it was working, but for no reason at all it was just cut out. And if she was trying to upload a video at that time then she had to completely start whole process over again. She talk like it cut out like that quite often.
I hope so too. We’ve had one 8 min outage but other than that it’s been great. I watched Sommers in Alaska’s video on Starlink and they had some issues as Well.
Holy cow Batman! We get up to 100 Mbit/s via 4G here, but more commonly 40-60 Mbit. 50 as I type this, so perhaps I should not complain, but hey! More is MORE! Unfortunately there are no Starlink satellites over our area. **Sulking**
That's great speeds considering where you are. Glad you are getting better internet for uploading more videos. Can we assume a video a day now??? ha ha ha
Hey 👋 there guys, I’m new here and want to be educated how can I live off grid in Alaska like you guys and would truly like your help.. do you have another way for us to chat pleaseeee 🙏 include cost of living and just be one with “nature” is my life. ❤️happy new years guys. 🇨🇦
You don’t have to leave Canada to live off grid. There are several off grid channels coming out of Canada. This is Stacy’s channel, she’s doing it solo. youtube.com/@CabinDweller
Apparently, the Starlink dish doesn't actually have a heater built into it. Based on what people have said who have cracked them open, there is no heater present. What happens is the unit actually overclocks the internal circuits to produce more heat. Anyone that has ever overclocked their PC can testify about extra heat!
whats the price on the two services? not sure if i missed that part, but i just checked starlink, and they want $600 for the hardware and 120 a month for the net. thats a little up there, i cant imagine huges net being that much.
Hi Guys! It’s been awhile since I’ve seen you post anything new so I sincerely hope everything is ok for you. Makes me think possibly the new internet provider is having some issues? Whatever the reason or reasons I just hope all is good in your lives and look forward to seeing more from you when you are ready❤️
Been waiting going on 2 years in Alabama for StarLink. They have very limited service right now. I have Hughes Crap which sucks big time. I live on a river and they is no cell service, so I have to connect the cell phone to wifi. Hughes Crap is not fast enough for a phone call and sometimes it won't even send a text. Please hurry StarLink. Thanks for the video, I was wondering about speed because some say the StarLink speeds had been throttled down. I would be in hog heaven with over 100mbs LOL oink oink...

I've had Starlink since beta, for over 3 years now, and it's been very reliable. Game changer for sure for us rural folks.
It’s been one year exactly since we installed it. Couldn’t be happier.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead Glad to hear it. I suffered for nearly 15 years with Viasat, so I know what you went through with Hughesnet.
We live with Hugh net for year hated it , cost for small tv service but highest internet service the offer $190 a month but was limited on the internet
Yup not the best.
Ok Brian, love you guys and your channel. Know you were Army so I'll cut a little slack (Navy myself).
But you are off grid! That means no connectivity! 🤣🤣
😂😂😂
What about energy consumtion?
It’s about the same as Hughes net. Draws about 100W.
Special guest. ❤
Yes!
Fr I have it too and I can’t even use my Xbox and ps4 at all don’t buy this
GO STARLINK!!! So glad you finally got it! When will you be doing your next live?
Not sure yet, soon hopefully
Compare costs.?
It’s the same, even for the hardware
Hi Brian and Diana. Didn’t see you Weds or today so I’m hoping all is well. Just wanted you to know we miss you. Take care. Hope to see you soon. Sending hugs from. Cape Cod Massachusetts ✌️🇺🇸❤️
All is well. Was going to try a live stream today but my wife wasn’t feeling well. Maybe Wednesday.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead looking forward to it. Take care. We will be here when you are ready. ❤️🇺🇸
@@AnAlaskaHomestead Missed seeing you all today. Hope all is good with you. Take care. God bless you both✌️🇺🇸❤️
Maybe someday, live Woodstove Wednesday 😉
That’s what I’m thinking.
Do you have to protect the cable from animals?
Nothing bothered the Hughes net cable.
Bill
The extra cable was $150 and I used Speed Test Master app. I hope it is up and running in your area. We’ve been loving it.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead Thanks Brian! I don't think it is yet in my area... I haven't seen anyone posting anything about it on the community FB pages.
@@thelonemoose4718 no problem.
So what did you put for “service address?” I lost interest immediately since I couldn’t get past that part. Seems my “address” is not listed in their database.
We put our in laws address. I’d just use your address then take it up on the ridge. You get a 30 day trial or you used to.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead What is my address? Lol. It’s either Mountains or Sea.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead I might need your in-laws address too!
@@MountainMariner 😂
many people have reported that they can use a google "plus code" as their service address for starlink. a "plus code" is basically just a shortened version of a latitude/longitude pair, which you can find on google maps.
That is the loudest, longest drinking dog I've ever heard that's not a Great Dane!🤣😂🐶🐕
😂😂😂
**Sulking**
That’s a bummer. Don’t give up hope it will get there eventually.
Hope you all are doing ok!
Doing good. Going live in 45 min👍
That's great speeds considering where you are. Glad you are getting better internet for uploading more videos. Can we assume a video a day now??? ha ha ha
😂 no 🤣
Hey 👋 there guys, I’m new here and want to be educated how can I live off grid in Alaska like you guys and would truly like your help.. do you have another way for us to chat pleaseeee 🙏 include cost of living and just be one with “nature” is my life. ❤️happy new years guys. 🇨🇦
You don’t have to leave Canada to live off grid. There are several off grid channels coming out of Canada.
This is Stacy’s channel, she’s doing it solo.

@@AnAlaskaHomestead thanks so much and kindly enlighten me more and let me knows the step financially etc… please 🙏 Thanks 🙏 😊
Starlink is the new shizz nizz!
Yea it is
live free hug .
🤗
What's the cost difference between Hughes net and Starlink?
Equipment and monthly service is the same.
What is the ping on Starlink and how much does 'yours' cost per month?
Ping is 32 ms and it runs $100 a month
the higher the better with Space X dish .
Less obstructions the better.
What's the cost difference?
Same
Apparently, the Starlink dish doesn't actually have a heater built into it. Based on what people have said who have cracked them open, there is no heater present. What happens is the unit actually overclocks the internal circuits to produce more heat. Anyone that has ever overclocked their PC can testify about extra heat!
How does the price compare?
Same
Will starling work in costa rica?
You’ll have to check?
How much is your Starlink vs. Hughes Net cost per month?
Same. $110 a month and $500 for hardware.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead That's not bad for satellite for that kind of bandwidth.
❤❤❤be safe love ya
Hi Taylor
whats the price on the two services? not sure if i missed that part, but i just checked starlink, and they want $600 for the hardware and 120 a month for the net. thats a little up there, i cant imagine huges net being that much.
They were both the same when we switched.
Hi Guys! It’s been awhile since I’ve seen you post anything new so I sincerely hope everything is ok for you. Makes me think possibly the new internet provider is having some issues? Whatever the reason or reasons I just hope all is good in your lives and look forward to seeing more from you when you are ready❤️
We are all good and the satellite is doing great. We are going to try a live tonight or tomorrow morning.
the reason why hughes net was getting better for you was because they are losing customers so they could increase peoples speed.
True
Been waiting going on 2 years in Alabama for StarLink. They have very limited service right now. I have Hughes Crap which sucks big time. I live on a river and they is no cell service, so I have to connect the cell phone to wifi. Hughes Crap is not fast enough for a phone call and sometimes it won't even send a text. Please hurry StarLink. Thanks for the video, I was wondering about speed because some say the StarLink speeds had been throttled down. I would be in hog heaven with over 100mbs LOL oink oink...
You are going to love it.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead Finally ordered it Thursday 7/20/2023, said 2-4 weeks can't wait, I mean I been waiting LOL Hope all is well in AK, take care.
@@WyattEarp387 awesome
Megabytes not Megabits
Hughes net is 2 kbs
Not good on Hugh's Net. They could've upped their game anytime. They only recently did so because of Starlink. God bless
They did go from 50GB a month to 100 but there’s no comparison.
I have hughes net for year and there speed is not even faster then dail up 20 years ago.
True
Where's the video on the new boat?? Quit teasing us!! lol
😂 I want the boat too
