I have conflicts with the video, probably because it is an unscripted production. I share the fact that a 10-team federation competition with a non-standardized organization is less than the European Championship in terms of visibility for an outsider, although your first arguments about the teams who participate are bullshit. To standardize and organize you would have to change the organization of Conmebol and how the most difficult classification works for mid-low tier countries other than Brazil and Argentina. Regarding overtime, it is more of a summer problem in the USA + resting the players. Although the refereeing is pathetic, combined with the factor that Conmebol teams know the referees better and know how to make "better fouls" that go under the table, Concacaf has not shown the expected quality either. Tournament is different, don't compare them, enjoy the chaos

They do this every tournament tbf and a lot of Americans believe it but this one in particular was different. There’s always this air of completely unwarranted American exceptionalism and when it doesn’t work out this is what you see from a lot of Americans. “Well we don’t care about soccer anyways, play us in our own sports”. The part they conveniently leave out is barely anyone cares about “American sports” outside of America, and even more conveniently, the places that have taken up our sports and put effort into them (Japan and certain South American countries with baseball and European countries with basketball) have started to equal and even surpass us within 40-50 years.

There's just no comparing when one federation has 10 teams and the other one 55. In these cases we can only talk percentages, and percentages wise, conmebol has a higher percentage of better teams. And if we don't wanna talk percentages, then there's no reason to talk at all, because there's no way of comparing anything.
And regarding the bad structure and organization, yeah it needs to improve, but that's what happens in an underdevelop continent. A continent your goverment helped keep underdeveloped btw.

It’s weird to complain about aspects of the competition that were already known before it started.
Yes, there’s no extra time. Last time they had it was in 2011. You’d think this would be a more welcome aspect since fans, players, and coaches have spoken out about how much players are being overplayed.
The groups being paired together in the same side of the bracket is actually silly and wasn’t done before
The refereeing has been poor, but I’ve seen Dumfries fake a head injury and the ref give the Romanian a yellow card for it. Not to mention the UCL semifinals. It’s not just a South American issue
And the cards per foul is a stat that doesn’t paint the whole picture. It doesn’t account for how aggressive the fouls were or how many were by the same players.
Tournament was consistent for years until 2016 which allowed for North American teams. 2019 was back to normal and 2020 had to change because of the pandemic. Then they wanted to line the years up with the Euros. It’s goofy, but there a method to the madness. The Euros has also changed a lot since it’s inception
The worst parts of the tournament have been the horrible pitches, poor cameras in broadcasting, the intense heat (another reason why straight to penalties isn’t a bad idea), and expensive ticket prices. And a lot of the falls on the hosts

    • @pato4063

Zealand, you clearly don't watch southamerican football. You bring a good point about Copa America's format and production: is abysmal and everyone can see it, won't argue about it. CONMEBOL just wants the paycheck and move on.
But SA level is clearly quite paired with Europe, because what other SA may lack on finesse and technique, they excel on intensity, energy and passion. And when a SA team have both intensity and technique, you get Argentina 2022, Uruguay atm and at 2010, Colombia 2014 (and also right now), and the best Brazil you would ever dream. And we are talking about 4 out of 10 teams...so, 40% of the confederation. And I'm writing this after Ecuador loss vs Argentina on penalties, and Ecuador just play better than us. They were quite unlucky. Let see if Venezuela is that good of a team "outside" CONMEBOL vs Canada.
And well, yes, the officiating fking sucks in SA. CONCACAF teams, although, don't know how to foul in a "SA style", but overall the referees sucks so much. We all know these guys and already gave us a headache. Roldan, Matonte, Herrera, Sampaio, Kevin Ortega, Valenzuela, Cisneros...we know these fckers from Libertadores and Sudamericana, and they are so fking bad, so negligent. I'm amused how Falcón Pérez is quite good on international duty but in Argentina is the extreme opposite.

It screams of being too naive, untrained, unprepared for the dark arts of South American teams fouling to stop the opposition from playing, losing their heads, fouling back but well over the yellow card line, over and over again.
It can certainly also be a referee issue in how they read the game, but there's rarely a yellow card without a foul in the first place.

The only thing bad with Copa America is the refereeing. The other arguments are just utter nonsense which the other people commenting has explained to why. On no surface should you be able to compare Copa America to Euros as it will always be different. This year there are a lot of strong teams that will honestly wipe a lot of the teams whilst in EUROs there arent many performing up to standards making underdogs stories much more likely and more entertaining for the regular watcher as games are more even than what they should be on paper. But in Copa America you have Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Venezuela, Ecuador playing very well team based football. I am confident for the future of CONMEBOL not much for CONCACAF who have displayed some very dissapointing results on familiar soil.

I agree in a lot of points, specially in the (not) organization of Conmebol. The fixture and all the things you said they do to help Argentina or Brazil to reach the final. But, the last comment about how easy is to win the Copa América against the Euro is relative.
In the last 10 editions, 5 teams of 10 won the Copa America. That's 50% of the represented federations.
In the last 10 editions of the Euro, 8 teams of 50 (aprox) won the trophy. 16% of the represented teams.
I know there are less nations, but that only means that the number of favorites teams also is reduced. And the most important matches will come from semifinals.
The same happens with the Libertadores and the Champions League. If you check the last 15 editions only, 10 were won by brazilian clubs, 4 argentinians and 1 colombian.
The last 15 CL were won by, spanish teams 8, english 4, german 2, italian 1
That's not harder if you look it from that perspective.

@@TheFacuball Acting like those own goals were all the Turkish mistake of passing without looking and not deflections some of which seemed like the player intentionally placed the ball to get a deflection.
Then there is also the fact of less fouls on average, more shots on average, more xG on average.

    • @TheFacuball
      @TheFacuball 5 днів тому

@@PVPTawa Okay fine then the defenders are so bad they can't clear a ball without putting in the back of their own net. I understand what a deflected own goal is, but nine of them is excessive. Intentionally deflecting off a defender should only be possible against a blind toddler not a world class athlete.
I believe the less fouls but I hardly care, that's just more evidence they really don't have any passion. If you have the stats for average xg and shots for both cups I'd like to see them, but as it stands they have the same average goals per game despite Copa America defenders not getting 360 no scope trick shotted into their own goal.

    • @PVPTawa
      @PVPTawa 5 днів тому

@@TheFacuball No defenders did any of that 360 no scope, intentionally deflecting off defenders is easy regardless of level it's only hard to intentionally do it and turn it into a goal, it happens all the time to get corners, if you think it's not easy, you ask someone to kick a ball into you at point blank and if you can't control it and clear it you're just as good as a blind toddler.
You literally have access to every match, meaning access to every stat.
Less fouls doesn't mean less passion, it means better defending, which explains why they average the same amount of goals despite the Euros having a higher average xG.

Zeeboy, I know everyone is talking about the way a lot of your critics are not valid or fair (I myself laid a couple comments), but I think you forget to point two big problems with this edition:
    1. The matches are starting too late for a lot of people. I know it's cool having some games in Cali and Vegas, but a Copa America match simply cannot start at 10 pm. All Brazil games were at this time, and we're at the same time zone with Argentina and Uruguay. Argentina played this Thursday at 10 pm, they draw with Ecuador, we got penalties. Friday morning and everybody gets to work. This schedule is pathetic, it's one reason more agaist extra time.
    2. The US have fantastic stadiums, but a lot of these venues were not built with soccer in mind. So CONMEBOL made the stupidest decision ever: each field this Copa America is 5 m shorter (16,4 ft) and 4 m (13,1 ft) narrower than the standard pitch. It's a disgrace.
This Copa America is a cash grab, one and only.

Honestly, a 16 team Copa America for the Americas is the best format. Have it in South America next time.

The perfect Copa America format for me was that we used here in Brazil at 1989 (and at other editions too, but I can't quote another year from memory):
2 groups of 5 teams, semis and final.

I think there is no extra time because they know with an extra 30 minutes, that's potentially another 5-10 rough challenges. Copa America is such a physical, grinding, sometimes dirty tournament. Also, despite the fact that it's the summer, the Euros extra time minutes add up, and the league season starts in a month. Some guys will be knackered coming back to their club teams.

I definitely think it's true that Venezuela is equivalent to Georgia and Romania. But man Georgia beat Portugal so the average conmebol country is competitive with a high level european nation. Obviously europe has a better tournameny they just have a lot more countries and higher population. I think the average level of conmebol nation is way better than the average uefa nation but Europe has more countries so naturally there are more countries that are top level than South America. But yes Copa America as a competition is cooked in organization.

In fairness to Copa America, you can't really do anything about the whole no qualifying situation considering their continent literally only has 10 teams. They've tried to do it with only CONMEBOL teams the year Messi won it by doing 2 groups of 5 where 4 out of 5 teams qualify but that makes the group stage basically pointless, thus forcing them to invite other teams from other confederations.
The fact that its even being hosted in the US this year is already controversial and I recommend watching HITC Sevens video essay on the matter to understand it fully. In terms of the competition being for "formal", I don't think it really matters as much to fans as long as its being hosted in their native continent and has the same vibes they're used to.
The whole group rematch thing wasn't a thing until this year so I don't really know why they decided to do that. It's still pretty competitive regardless though, with Brazil and Uruguay both getting grouped at some point in the last 5 tournaments

Next Copa America tournament format: 13 teams divided into groups of 3, 4 and 6 teams (this group includes the invited nations) The top two of the first two groups qualify, and the top 3 or 4 of the group of six (depending on if the play off game is played on a tuesday) then also qualify to go on to play a home and away league table system, where the winner goes through to the final and the 4th to 2nd place teams play a knockout style play off (4th vs 3rd, winner vs 2nd). The final is played in a best of four format to determine the winner. The invitational teams will be Bahrein, North Korea, Puerto Rico
