If you ever find yourself asking why I've made a video, sometimes I hit record and I don't even know where I'm going
The US still sucks though
I have conflicts with the video, probably because it is an unscripted production. I share the fact that a 10-team federation competition with a non-standardized organization is less than the European Championship in terms of visibility for an outsider, although your first arguments about the teams who participate are bullshit. To standardize and organize you would have to change the organization of Conmebol and how the most difficult classification works for mid-low tier countries other than Brazil and Argentina. Regarding overtime, it is more of a summer problem in the USA + resting the players. Although the refereeing is pathetic, combined with the factor that Conmebol teams know the referees better and know how to make "better fouls" that go under the table, Concacaf has not shown the expected quality either. Tournament is different, don't compare them, enjoy the chaos
good. that this wasn't scripted is impressive.
You win Euros, you survive Copa America.
sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh🥶
Copa America is an mma tournament in disguise.
What is harder, surviving Copa or staying awake during a game of southgateball?
Watching southgate ball is a fate worse than death
@@charon3444the problem is that you don't just have to survive southgate, you also had to survive deshamps(?) france against tedesco belgium and a portugal side that forgot how to play football for 105 minutes.
Canada with the most yellow cards of all the teams is pretty hilarious, must be our Hockey mentality creeping through.
Bro have you seen Canada play, this tournament. We're dirty as hell! If anything, we deserved more cards, especially against Chile.
Bring out Reaves and Deslauriers and Canada going all the way
@@el_matamuertes That good o'canadian truculence and snarl. Really funny that deslauriers has a natural hatty.
the fact is they havnt been physical lol
As a Canadian, it's honestly kinda hilarious to me that Peru and Chile thought it was a good strategy to try and physically intimidate and bully us... like, do you not realize that in our national sport, athletes regularly play through lost teeth and fresh stitches, and the penalty for literal fist fighting is 5 minutes off the playing surface to think about what you did... meanwhile, one little kick and you're rolling on the ground, crying and screaming for a minute and a half...

Watching this video made me realize afcon is far better than copa, yeah we have our own problems but atleast we can easily host it🤣
South America, different from europe, does not have filler nations, so its not possible to make a qualifier
Yup the US could basically make a Euros by having each state send their best players. Which is basically the same as England sending Scotland Northern Ireland and Wales when its all the same country

The man hates that copa américa invites other countries... As an invited county
@@JavierRodriguez-wl7jyI think part of it is because the American media(think guys like alexi lalas) and Americans in general, are entirely incapable of taking their American red white and blue hats off and hyped this up as a tournament we were one of the favorites in. They do this every tournament tbf and a lot of Americans believe it but this one in particular was different. There’s always this air of completely unwarranted American exceptionalism and when it doesn’t work out this is what you see from a lot of Americans. “Well we don’t care about soccer anyways, play us in our own sports”. The part they conveniently leave out is barely anyone cares about “American sports” outside of America, and even more conveniently, the places that have taken up our sports and put effort into them (Japan and certain South American countries with baseball and European countries with basketball) have started to equal and even surpass us within 40-50 years.
@@JavierRodriguez-wl7jy I think this is the general sentiment among U.S. fans. People from the U.S. who love this sport are heartbroken and are now going through the coping stages of grief

@@FakeRlot Thought I was going to have a heart attack during that game. Esp. the final 20’, that level of suspense + intensity was genuinely diabolical 😂
There's just no comparing when one federation has 10 teams and the other one 55. In these cases we can only talk percentages, and percentages wise, conmebol has a higher percentage of better teams. And if we don't wanna talk percentages, then there's no reason to talk at all, because there's no way of comparing anything.
And regarding the bad structure and organization, yeah it needs to improve, but that's what happens in an underdevelop continent. A continent your goverment helped keep underdeveloped btw.

You are comparing two continents, europe has more countries than south america therefore it NEEDS a qualifier against 10 countries also you are not taking into consideration that Copa Amera was supposed to be a year after the world cup, but a social issues in the countries that were supposed to be held happened making it to be delayed or not being done entirely
Yeah because south america does not have serious countries
You are comparing two continents that have similar population sizes
@@kevindunn2663One confederation has more than 5 times the teams the other one has, so it's not South America's fault that we lack the filler the euros have, we could if we integrated CONJAJAJAF, but that would worsen the level
There are actually like 3 more countries in South America, but they don’t play in CONCACAF because they are not truly independent and thus not developed
Zealand, the 2016 edition was a special edition made for money and to celebrate the 100 years of the competition. CONMENBOL just wanted to give Messi another shot at the title but ended up accidentally giving Chile’s national team the best period of its history lol
The 2021 edition got pushed because because of COVID.
Idk how this changes anything though
Not only that, but CONMEBOL decided to cicle Copa America with the Euros starting at 2020 (but Covid, thus 2021).
It was Colombia’s turn to host, (they’re after Chile, but Chile and Brazil traded Copa’s due to Brazils hosting of the WC) but they needed help so Argentina volunteered.
The tournament ended up being played in Brazil under Covid Restrictions.
The Original plan was 2 groups of 6 teams played in North or South groups, top 4 advance. 3rd and 4th place teams travel to opposing region to play, Final would be in Colombia and Third place in Argentina.
That was the original plan.
None of it ended up happening 😂
@@m.c.martin
That was an awful formula as well
It’s weird to complain about aspects of the competition that were already known before it started.
Yes, there’s no extra time. Last time they had it was in 2011. You’d think this would be a more welcome aspect since fans, players, and coaches have spoken out about how much players are being overplayed.
The groups being paired together in the same side of the bracket is actually silly and wasn’t done before
The refereeing has been poor, but I’ve seen Dumfries fake a head injury and the ref give the Romanian a yellow card for it. Not to mention the UCL semifinals. It’s not just a South American issue
And the cards per foul is a stat that doesn’t paint the whole picture. It doesn’t account for how aggressive the fouls were or how many were by the same players.
Tournament was consistent for years until 2016 which allowed for North American teams. 2019 was back to normal and 2020 had to change because of the pandemic. Then they wanted to line the years up with the Euros. It’s goofy, but there a method to the madness. The Euros has also changed a lot since it’s inception
The worst parts of the tournament have been the horrible pitches, poor cameras in broadcasting, the intense heat (another reason why straight to penalties isn’t a bad idea), and expensive ticket prices. And a lot of the falls on the hosts
Yeah it's ignores how bad the fouls actually are. Plus shocking no one, generally the crap teams commit more card worthy fouls.
Wait until Zealand realizes that the best referee in America is working at... the eurocup xD
Zealand, you clearly don't watch southamerican football. You bring a good point about Copa America's format and production: is abysmal and everyone can see it, won't argue about it. CONMEBOL just wants the paycheck and move on.
But SA level is clearly quite paired with Europe, because what other SA may lack on finesse and technique, they excel on intensity, energy and passion. And when a SA team have both intensity and technique, you get Argentina 2022, Uruguay atm and at 2010, Colombia 2014 (and also right now), and the best Brazil you would ever dream. And we are talking about 4 out of 10 teams...so, 40% of the confederation. And I'm writing this after Ecuador loss vs Argentina on penalties, and Ecuador just play better than us. They were quite unlucky. Let see if Venezuela is that good of a team "outside" CONMEBOL vs Canada.
And well, yes, the officiating fking sucks in SA. CONCACAF teams, although, don't know how to foul in a "SA style", but overall the referees sucks so much. We all know these guys and already gave us a headache. Roldan, Matonte, Herrera, Sampaio, Kevin Ortega, Valenzuela, Cisneros...we know these fckers from Libertadores and Sudamericana, and they are so fking bad, so negligent. I'm amused how Falcón Pérez is quite good on international duty but in Argentina is the extreme opposite.
Dude really did the whole Principal Skinner meme, like "Is my country's team actually trash? ... No, it's the Copa that's cooked..."
It's both though.
@@PVPTawa Yes and no. The Copa America cannot be held in North America again, at least not until they have propper facilities to hold it. Even the atmosphere is no near the same as the Euros, when South America is recognized for its passion.
Bro is playing Cope America

You ABSOLUTELY need some more South American knowledge and culture in your day to day basis when it comes to football. Not saying you're uncultured, you're one of the best content creators on UA-cam when it comes to international football, but the thing is that 90% of what you said is absolute bias fiesta. Copa America happens usually every two years, three depending on political circumstances (mostly related to either the host or Argentina and Brazil disagreeing with something).
Also, if the Euro is a harder competition, then how come Argentina won against Italy? And not by a small margin, I would say
Because Italy aren’t or weren’t that good. Plenty of surprising results happen in tournaments. I think a team like Argentina can beat any team in the world. But it doesn’t make Copa America a higher standard than the euros. Europe has more good teams
@liam3104 so a bad team won a supposedly higher difficulty competition? If Italy was bad, then the rest also dragged the whole thing down, no?
Also, it's not that the euro has more higher quality teams, the euro just has more teams in general. Europe has like 4 times as many countries compared to South America
@@jacksonfogo2The Euro wasn't played in 2022 when Italy was playing like shit, Italy was the most inconsistent team the past decade, showed up for the Euro and dipped back out failing to qualify for the last 2 world cups, 2 months before losing to Argentina they lost to North Macedonia, so you understand how inconsistent they were.
@PVPTawa I get that, but it baffles me that an inconsistent team won the Euro, while our Copa America winner won the World Cup, and somehow there are people saying that the Euro is better
The "Italy bad" argument doesn't make me understand the point, it makes the point sound worse
talking about italy they won the euros cause englands manager is bad
What those stats tell me is that CONCACAF teams' players are not well drilled on how to toe the line when fouling to do enough to foul but also just enough to not get carded.
It screams of being too naive, untrained, unprepared for the dark arts of South American teams fouling to stop the opposition from playing, losing their heads, fouling back but well over the yellow card line, over and over again.
It can certainly also be a referee issue in how they read the game, but there's rarely a yellow card without a foul in the first place.
You are correct, there's a reason why Colombia, Uruguay, Argentina and Brasil have some of the most valuable defenders and players in world, way above any player from the US or Concacaf, but that seems a concept too hard for US fans to understand right now and they are coping hard.
The best way to enjoy Copa America is to never compare it to the Euros and just enjoy it for the little competition it is

I say this with love and no animosity but [a fair amount of ignorance.. granted] - THE US IS INVOLVED, you can't expect the same rules as the rest of the competitive world plays by, it's the 'made for tv' version of competitive sports. Imagine extra time would be entirely too much for the tv schedule over there. How'd they know which commercial segments to sell at the 'during the game' price? And we ain't even talking including the now defunct confederations cup which included more "across the board" (aka not only the reigning champions) teams, in which my point is even more valid.
The only thing bad with Copa America is the refereeing. The other arguments are just utter nonsense which the other people commenting has explained to why. On no surface should you be able to compare Copa America to Euros as it will always be different. This year there are a lot of strong teams that will honestly wipe a lot of the teams whilst in EUROs there arent many performing up to standards making underdogs stories much more likely and more entertaining for the regular watcher as games are more even than what they should be on paper. But in Copa America you have Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Venezuela, Ecuador playing very well team based football. I am confident for the future of CONMEBOL not much for CONCACAF who have displayed some very dissapointing results on familiar soil.
The euros are also split, one side wont face the other. Its why everyone is saying England got the easy side of the draw
copa america is brilliant and the games have an intensity that the euros is lacking so far this year, USA is cooked and this is a reaction

The final is played in a best of four format to determine the winner. The invitational teams will be Bahrein, North Korea, Puerto Rico .
Canada elbowed a Chilean player in the face and the ref didn't even consider it a foul. And panama plays extremely rough, but yeah, Uruguay does deserve more yellow cards, they are foul machines

FIFA : "Hold my crystal glass of the world's most expensive beer"
well georgia and azerbaijan and israel are also not in europe and they play in the euros, Turkey and Russia (when russia used to be a country for these purposes) are also kinda in and kinda not in europe. Technically the USA are more in the copa america than those other countries are in the euros.
Worth noting that the euros (and any other tournament where a 3rd place team can qualify from the group stage) also have the potential for a rematch of a group game in the knockouts. Hell, just this year if austria had beat turkiye a few days ago we would've had austria matched up with netherlands in the quarterfinals.

Man, I love your videos, and this won't change because of your rant/opinion here. On one hand, Copa America (and specially Conmebol) has a LOT to improve. On the other hand, it seems that you just realized how far behind Concacaf teams are in relation to Conmebol teams. I mean, it makes sense that you seem surprised by that red cards analysis, but it takes time to develop a "football culture" in a country. Finally, the fact that the USA is invited to this competition shouldn't come as a surprise, as it is part of the american continent, just not part of Conmebol.

MLS has better officiating than the COPA. That's pretty sad.
I agree in a lot of points, specially in the (not) organization of Conmebol. The fixture and all the things you said they do to help Argentina or Brazil to reach the final. But, the last comment about how easy is to win the Copa América against the Euro is relative.
In the last 10 editions, 5 teams of 10 won the Copa America. That's 50% of the represented federations.
In the last 10 editions of the Euro, 8 teams of 50 (aprox) won the trophy. 16% of the represented teams.
I know there are less nations, but that only means that the number of favorites teams also is reduced. And the most important matches will come from semifinals.
The same happens with the Libertadores and the Champions League. If you check the last 15 editions only, 10 were won by brazilian clubs, 4 argentinians and 1 colombian.
The last 15 CL were won by, spanish teams 8, english 4, german 2, italian 1
That's not harder if you look it from that perspective.
The last time Brazil hosted the Copa América, a Peruvian journalist came to Brazil to ask if people knew there was going to be a Copa América in Brazil and the majority of Brazilians interviewed responded "no" We don't care about the Copa América, they try to put Copa América and Euro on the same level for commercial reasons but the truth is that we don't care about this type of tournament. We only care about the World Cup and club competitions.
@Gaiaxuxa that is also my perception from the outside looking in. Brazil used to send B teams to Copa América all the time in the 90s and 2000s. That changed slightly in the mid to late 2000s, however
@@croskoal Changed because Brasil A team is worse than our B team in 90s. Lol
let's not pretend Concacaf doesn't fix it every Gold Cup with the US and Mexico, so they don't face off before the final... as for the brackets, it's just a little too sus that Argentina technically got the easier countries to beat, while the other strong teams Uruguay, Brazil & Colombia were on the other side of the bracket, they just gotta make sure the one South American team that can actually sell seats is in the final, the team they face in the final may just be irrelevant to the actual purpose of the match, which is make money, we all agree that's the only reason Conmebol would ever get involved with Concacaf
I mean, USA and Mexico are the best teams in CONCACAF, so it makes sense they'd be seeded on the opposite sides of the bracket.
Dude… copa has been way better than euros.
been saying combine CONCACAF and CONEMBOL for a few years, I need to see the chaos
This is hilarious after your stats rant
Copa América has a red carpet for Argentina, easy teams from Group Stage, all the way to the final. While in the other Groups qualifying brackets, all the tough teams (Uruguay, Colombia, Brazil) have to destroy each other before reaching the final.
Yup and this isn’t just some coincidence, CONMENBOL purposefully decided teams from groups A & B and C & D will face each other in the quarterfinals. The most sensible option would be to make A & C, B & D teams face each other like the Euros.
This way you avoid having rematches in the quarterfinals. We could have Argentina x Canada or Brazil x Colombia again in the QF.
But Messi is the golden goose and CONMENBOL always got Argentina’s back so they had to make sure they would make it to the final in Miami where Messi is retiring.
@@Lucaz99 honestly stfu. 2021, Brazil's pathway were Peru, Chile, and Paraguay. Were you saying it was rigged then? Probably not. He wasn't the golden goose when he was losing. But now that Argentina has found success, it's "rigged"

@@shahir1395 cough cough reff WC... How many Pens bailed Pesentina out after getting slept by saudi arabia.. stfu
Mexico literally had to face Venezuela, the historically worst team in Conmebol. I would take that group every day of the week
American breakdown in detail why Copa America isn't good 3 days after USMNT fails to get out of a group consisting of Uruguay, Panama, and Bolivia in a home tournament. Optics doesn't look good. 🤷♂️
Uruguay in basically its entire history: Garra Charrua, red card hoarders
Uruguay 2024: Fair Play Award
What a day to be alive
There is a qualification process for copa america for concacaf teams...FYI...this edition
5:21 Adding on to this, looking into the reasons why CONMEBOL scheduled the Copas whenever makes this even funnier 🤣. 2016 you alr got, but for the 3 year gaps for 2001-2007, they had to make the next one in 2011 because of the freaking world cup in 2010. Like how do you have so little foresight to make these decisions? And for 2021, apparently FIFA forced CONMEBOL to align with the Euros calendar, and instead of waiting until 2024 (taking one extra year off), they would have made ANOTHER back-to-back Copa in 2019 and 2020 if it wasn't for... well you know.
Oh boy, that’s a hard watch. Next vid tell us 3 things you like about Copa America.
Seems like sour grapes to me man
Honestly the best European teams have not been playing at a great standard. Maybe it's the other national teams closing a gap but the tournament itself has been underwhelming. Copa America has been a better tournament from an entertainment standpoint.
that hairline is cooked
You can tell it’s the first time he’s actually watched Copa. Exposing himself here
Considering how new his YT channel is, I wouldn't be surprised
well, i dont watch it either, i just like watching angry zealand and it seems to be very good at creating that....
Yeah itsbeen a shitshow of a competition since the beginning
Only been 3 times in 20+ years so no reason for americans to watch
Cheer up
Copa America is different gravy. It just hits different. You have to live it, to know what it’s like. It’s like the Argentine’s say,
“No te lo puedo explicar, porque no vas a entender” (I can’t explain it to you, because you won’t understand)
The same group facing eachother thing is absolutely abysmal. As a guy who deals with tournament formats a lot, it's insulting that a tournament of this status could do such a thing.
Yeah and then a south american team goes and win the WC, heard it before and will keep hearing it
If this was in Spanish, it would be a love letter to COPA AMÉRICA
Zealand I love your videos but you're making yourself look silly with all of these videos discrediting the Copa América after hyping it up and hyping up the USA
Like I get it I am Salvadoran I get pissed off whenever we play badly but this is frankly another level of cope
Say whatever you want I always get bored watching the Euros and never in Copa America.
Doesn't sound like you've been watching the Euro, games outside of England haven't really been boring, even when a team parks the bus there is generally a lot of attacks and fast breaks.
But I guess seeing players fuck up more often might be more entertaining to you.
@@PVPTawa Outside of Germany and Spain no favorite has been inspiring. France is through to the quarter finals without scoring a single goal in open play. Also I don't know what you call fuck ups but for me it would be 9 own goals. Say what you will about Copa America but at least they know which side of the field to score on.
@@TheFacuball Acting like those own goals were all the Turkish mistake of passing without looking and not deflections some of which seemed like the player intentionally placed the ball to get a deflection.
Then there is also the fact of less fouls on average, more shots on average, more xG on average.
@@PVPTawa Okay fine then the defenders are so bad they can't clear a ball without putting in the back of their own net. I understand what a deflected own goal is, but nine of them is excessive. Intentionally deflecting off a defender should only be possible against a blind toddler not a world class athlete.
I believe the less fouls but I hardly care, that's just more evidence they really don't have any passion. If you have the stats for average xg and shots for both cups I'd like to see them, but as it stands they have the same average goals per game despite Copa America defenders not getting 360 no scope trick shotted into their own goal.
@@TheFacuball No defenders did any of that 360 no scope, intentionally deflecting off defenders is easy regardless of level it's only hard to intentionally do it and turn it into a goal, it happens all the time to get corners, if you think it's not easy, you ask someone to kick a ball into you at point blank and if you can't control it and clear it you're just as good as a blind toddler.
You literally have access to every match, meaning access to every stat.
Less fouls doesn't mean less passion, it means better defending, which explains why they average the same amount of goals despite the Euros having a higher average xG.
People in Europe wish they didn’t have to watch England and France in extra time
You are a casual if u dont know why the change of the formats is in copa america(number of teams involved, years in between tournaments, etc).
Zeeboy, I know everyone is talking about the way a lot of your critics are not valid or fair (I myself laid a couple comments), but I think you forget to point two big problems with this edition:
1. The matches are starting too late for a lot of people. I know it's cool having some games in Cali and Vegas, but a Copa America match simply cannot start at 10 pm. All Brazil games were at this time, and we're at the same time zone with Argentina and Uruguay. Argentina played this Thursday at 10 pm, they draw with Ecuador, we got penalties. Friday morning and everybody gets to work. This schedule is pathetic, it's one reason more agaist extra time.
2. The US have fantastic stadiums, but a lot of these venues were not built with soccer in mind. So CONMEBOL made the stupidest decision ever: each field this Copa America is 5 m shorter (16,4 ft) and 4 m (13,1 ft) narrower than the standard pitch. It's a disgrace.
This Copa America is a cash grab, one and only.
Honestly, a 16 team Copa America for the Americas is the best format. Have it in South America next time.
Euros could have had Netherlands v Austria a rematch from the group stage in the quarterfinal
The perfect Copa America format for me was that we used here in Brazil at 1989 (and at other editions too, but I can't quote another year from memory):
2 groups of 5 teams, semis and final.
Why anyone still has this view when we've seen what south american teams can do in the World Cup, drawing or even winning some games by fucking Ecuador
Holy cow, this is delusional ball knowledge. If you don't know about it, it's okay to not make a video.
I think there is no extra time because they know with an extra 30 minutes, that's potentially another 5-10 rough challenges. Copa America is such a physical, grinding, sometimes dirty tournament. Also, despite the fact that it's the summer, the Euros extra time minutes add up, and the league season starts in a month. Some guys will be knackered coming back to their club teams.
I definitely think it's true that Venezuela is equivalent to Georgia and Romania. But man Georgia beat Portugal so the average conmebol country is competitive with a high level european nation. Obviously europe has a better tournameny they just have a lot more countries and higher population. I think the average level of conmebol nation is way better than the average uefa nation but Europe has more countries so naturally there are more countries that are top level than South America. But yes Copa America as a competition is cooked in organization.
In fairness to Copa America, you can't really do anything about the whole no qualifying situation considering their continent literally only has 10 teams. They've tried to do it with only CONMEBOL teams the year Messi won it by doing 2 groups of 5 where 4 out of 5 teams qualify but that makes the group stage basically pointless, thus forcing them to invite other teams from other confederations.
The fact that its even being hosted in the US this year is already controversial and I recommend watching HITC Sevens video essay on the matter to understand it fully. In terms of the competition being for "formal", I don't think it really matters as much to fans as long as its being hosted in their native continent and has the same vibes they're used to.
The whole group rematch thing wasn't a thing until this year so I don't really know why they decided to do that. It's still pretty competitive regardless though, with Brazil and Uruguay both getting grouped at some point in the last 5 tournaments
I know it’s something that everyone speaks about, but i seriously can’t see a reason why we can’t combine concacaf and conmebol as a single conglomerate.
Zealand the answer is that CONMEBOL is an administrative nightmare 😂
Bro looking like Steve Carrol in 40 year old virgin. Man o lantern
Why the F bombs in these videos 😢
Messi has only had 1 more attempt at Copa America than CR7 at the Euros btw.
I think the knockout seeding is made so that you hopefully get Brasil and Argentina facing each other only in the final
This man really talking like anyone compared copa america to the euros 💀💀
You can like copa america more than the euros. But absolutely no one is arguing that copa is as prestigious as the euros
Next Copa America tournament format: 13 teams divided into groups of 3, 4 and 6 teams (this group includes the invited nations) The top two of the first two groups qualify, and the top 3 or 4 of the group of six (depending on if the play off game is played on a tuesday) then also qualify to go on to play a home and away league table system, where the winner goes through to the final and the 4th to 2nd place teams play a knockout style play off (4th vs 3rd, winner vs 2nd). The final is played in a best of four format to determine the winner. The invitational teams will be Bahrein, North Korea, Puerto Rico
