  • I've been eyeing up Flintloque for a while now, and I finally took the plunge and got one of the five or so starter packs - shilling starter packs as they are called by the makers at Alternative Armies.
It is an Alternative Armies game and is a skirmish game variant of their Slaughterloo setting that is a full on battle game. The En Garde dueling game in this setting also looks really fun, in my opinion, but I've still to look into it properly as of filming.
Its a tongue in cheek fantasy setting based on the Napoleonic war and has dogmen, toadmen and bunnymen, alongside orcs, goblins, dwarves and elves.
I chose the Bier and Bones set, as I like dwarves and also I like the Prussians during the Napoleonic. But all the Shilling Starter Sets have enough models, rules and background to actually play the game and to play many games.
I'm also tempted by the Catalucia pack as well, but haven't invested in it yet. I also want to take a good look at Slaughterloo. I'll have to look through the rules properly soon.
But yes, once I've properly read the rules, I'll hopefully get some games in. I'll need to get some scenery done - much like with my The Woods campaign.
    Stay safe, stay groovy!

Excellent and fair review thank you. We put it up on our blog as well. Enjoy the game. Metal miniatures are eternal, we have castings nearly 50 years old now by Asgard and they are still awesome. alternative-armies.blogspot.com/2024/12/dwarven-moustache-hobbying-video-review.html

Thanks for sharing this. I get a bit cautious of sharing links, just in case logarithms get confused and decide weird things. But yes, when I've got minis from you before, its all been prompt, nicely priced and a delight when it's arrived.

Thank you. Not a problem. We place all such on our own blog to give a second layer to link for the wargamer. That is kind to say.

I really like the old sculpts of these. I know a few folks like 3D printing now a days, but i still have a preference for the old metals.
But I', now ready to start playing. Since filming, I've finished reading the manual but I'd like to go through it one more time, then I can get in a few games.
I've sort of gotten excited with these. I'd like to get a selection of these. The Catalucia pack looks good and I think I'll get into Slaughtloo as well, at some point.

Once one gets the rhythm of it Flintloque is a lot of fun with an emphasis on story driven play. Great game.

Thanks for the comment. It does look like a great game. I'm sorely tempted by the Catalucia pack next, just because.
The whole thing looks like it hits the right spots for a game, with a good setting, nice models and a ruleset that's just complex enough without it getting too bogged down or like there is a lack of definition between things.
