A bit of a different kind of video today! I thought it would be fun and a bit interesting for me to try talking during one of my painting time lapses instead of just having pure music like my normal videos. What do you guys think or prefer?
It's not being dumb, it's absolutely normal ! I think we've all been there. I personally scan all my sketches before painting them, that way even if they turn out not to good, I still have the original sketch
Don't forget to paint with watercolor just in appropriate paper! You will end up soaking and making holes in a normal paper if you try to watercolor it.
Hi! These are beautiful! One tip for doing darker skin tones, try using a light wash of orange or purple-blue ish (for an even darker skintone ) for an under tone. It can bring more life to the skin. 😊
First of all...I like you painting during drawings. I love your draws, you're amazing. I am a beginner for english so forgive me if something is wrong in my message: I'm a student of Illustration and animation in Venezuela, you and your drawings inspire me to keep going, to practice more and get better in this horrible situation of my country. I never miss a single update in your instagram. A fan, with love, Camila.
Firstly, your english is perfectly fine Camila! Don't you worry :) Thank you so much for supporting and following my work, it really made me smile so much to hear that you never miss my posts haha. Please continue to keep drawing and practicing and never give up!!
welp, it depends. If it purely for a productivity as in improvement of yourself then great, if it just an addiction / just a hand wavy i'll watch it then don't...
Omg how do you leave those tiny stunning highlights behind without painting on them? I'm trying so hard and everytime I get a good highlight I destroy it later on by mistake 😂😭 ps. I adore your art SO much
You can use white ink/pens after you finish the painting OR use drawing gum (aka masking fluid) to cover the areas you want to protect. With gum, you just rub it off once the painting's dry! When using drawing gum, I suggest you put it on the paper before you start painting because I've noticed when you rub it off later, it lifts off any watercolor underneath. Also, wait for the gum to dry properly before painting (doesn't take too long) and if you don't get a drawing gum marker, you can always use brushes. To protect your brushes, wash them with soap before hand and don't rinse out the soap! Use them like that and then rinse them out again after use.
In my humble opinion, I find your voice relaxing. And lets face it, a mellow and relaxed mind is almost the very foundation of painting. I'm just starting my love for watercolor, and at 65 its better late than never! Your teaching is very easy to follow and makes me feel that even I can paint! Thank you so very much
Your mind blowing work is the reason why I started water coloring! I've seen quite a lot of watercolor related UA-cam videos and your work most certainly shines through! As a suggestion, make a video on where to put highlights (or leaving dry spots) for different objects/materials since it's a quite delicate thing to master & is super important!
I’m so thankful that you painted somebody of color WITH AN AFRO!!! In general, you just don’t see many pocs in water color or portraits. Sadly my alma mater didn’t even teach how to paint people with darker tones. And many schools don’t so I just appreciate it so much! Thank you!!!
It's just red+yellow=orange+white=flesh(for me I use flesh as a skin tone and u can add a little bit of blue for more depth) or if you want it reddish or something then just put a bit more red or if you want it to be more darker (darker shade for flesh) then use brown/blue :) If you don't know how to mix brown it's basically just all the primary colors but if you're failling to do it then here's a tip: What I usually do: red+yellow=orange+blue=brown Blue+yellow=green+red=brown What I sometimes fail to: (I think it's because I sometimes add too much blue or idrk) blue+red=purple/violet+yellow=brown
I use pink and yellow veery diluted for white skintones! But it totaly varies in the environment and the tone of the drawing. For example, sometimes I add a bit of purple/dark blue to make it more gray-ish and on the cool side, or more orange and brown for a tan. It's a matter of trying. Mix, add color, add different amounts of whater and just try it. And also, take notes from the proportions and what color you used, if you get it wright you might want to replicate it later.
this is the first video I've seen from you and suddenly I feel so inspired and excited about my own art. Thank you for sharing your story and making it all seem possible! It can be so scary to commit to making art even when it's what you love to do most. Thank you again! You are so talented and I can't wait to try these techniques
Do you think you will ever make smaller prints of your watercolor artworks that might be cheaper than the ones you have now? I've always wanted to purchase one of your watercolor prints, but they are too big for my limited wall space and being still in highschool, I have to ask my parents for money, and they aren't inclined to pay over 20 dollars for a piece of artwork (They are tech people). Love your artwork and thank you for seeing this comment if you have the time!
YES! I want to put out smaller works and I do apologize that right now the store only has larger & pricier works 😞 They were exhibition artworks so it didn't feel right to be shrinking them from their original sizes.
Awenda did you mean to reply to my wig flew to exo planet? cause this kinda has nothing to do with what this person said but yeah if not don’t come for me thanksssss
hey, im an artist in a techie family too! my parents try and hone my talent, although my mom doesnt reallt understand why i need so much colors and supplies haha
i can relate when he talked about art friends. when i walked into this huge store full of art supplies anyone could possibly imagine, i wanted to cry because...its just amazing. i love shopping for art supplies.
I absolutely adored this video. You are my favorite artist for a long time now, and I'm always so thrilled to see your painting process. It always teaches me so much just to watch you paint, let alone get a whole tutorial from you
I love how positive and confident yet, still humble you are with your art. You seem professional but still relatable. A chill guy who does very beautiful detailed art. I like how you dont put yourself down or use self-deprecating humor. Just saying my thoughts here
I clicked on this video because I’m paralyzed with fear to start a few big portraits! After watching your video though I’m feeling more confident and excited to try your technique!! You have such beautiful work, never stop making art!
What i love about your work is that its so detailed and beautiful, but at the same time its very simple. Your style is very distinctive and impressive!
Beautiful! You make it look so easy :D I picked up watercolor this year and since I come from completely different mediums (oil and soft pastel) I had problems with taming the watercolor :D I accepted the fact that this probably is a battle I can't win so I'm now letting it be as it likes and am enjoying it a lot :)
Im the opposite! I've always been so much more comfortable with watercolor ... pastels and oils on the other hand, I went to art school and was terrified of it! 😂😂
I loved this video, thanks Hieu :) I think the tutorial had just enough info (it could be overwhelming if it was too much at once) so then it was great to see more demo while listening to the Q&A
I am an artist and I used to draw lot of stuff during school days and wanted to become a graphic designer. Things didn't worked the way I became an Engineer because people told me there is no career in art field. I was really feeling so jealous of you that you are having a career in this pleasant field. Love from India!!!
So, why do you start your skin tones around the eyes? Is just personal preference or something you were taught? Or is something other reason? I haven't done anything skin related before, if that helps at all.
I think it's just a personal preference. For me, at least, starting out with the eyes gives me a reference to gauge upon how detailed and how much I need to build upon to balance the face. Probably because the eyes are the natural center of focus
Thank you sooooooo much for the sea surf tutorial! I guess I could've written on that vid but I saw this vid and this too looked like something I wanted to weigh in on. Love your work and the way you do what you do! I'm a 58 yr. old Mum and have drawn and painted my whole life but now, since I'm still loving art so much, its been made obvious to me that I should really develop my skills to a professional level. so your work matters to me. And i love your style and how gorgeous all of it is...loved the little boats in the waves birds eye view. Loved it. I used to be this prolific...then, somene said i should get a job and move out! So from that moment on, I had to hit the ground running and the work I had to get never left any time to do what I loved. I know alot of people feel this way. so...now that I've got one out of the hosue, (which by the way, I never wanted, he did!), I can take the time needed to practice and practice doing things in watercolor that I'd not thought of doing before. So thanks very much for your tutorials!
This was great! Thank you, gonna branch out and try some portrait paint "sketches" so thanks for the inspiration. Also wondering who is your watercolor inspiration or favorite artist to follow/ who inspires you?
It draws beautifully and quickly! When I edited the video with TimeLabs, I realized that I had too many strokes. But you do not touch the same place many times. It's amazing! It was nice to be able to see the diversity of pictures every time I changed the camera angle. It was a lot of learning to me. I do not paint with watercolors but draw with colored pencils. Your illustrations seem to have inspired me a lot. I look forward to a good video in the future. Sending a big kiss. Have a good day!
I personally am really amazed by your motivations and the passion in your voice. I one day hope to be as passionate and motivational as you in my own art so nonetheless I’m exited!
My love was always CG and I've just started exploring watercolour (which I've always hated and never been good at). Love watching and listening to your commentary. Beautiful work.
What brand or type of paintbrushes do you use? I want to start trying watercolor and I want to explore and get better at painting. You were my first inspiration for watercolor and I constantly watch your videos. Thank u for making videos like these. I really enjoy them and your artwork. It would be a dream for you to respond to my question. From, Jade
right now, my favourite brushes are the Kolinsky brushes from Trekell (the black ones you see in this video). they hold a great amount of water and pigment, so its easier for washes and big applications of paint. if you want to start out with watercolour, i highly recommend going for synthetic taklon brushes instead as they are a lot more affordable! I hope that helps!
@Jade Grant, it doesn’t matter at what age you start, it’s about how long you’ve drawn. Such as drawing daily for a year rather than painting every few times for years
This is beautiful! I really love your artwork. I'm gonna try this one. I do use watercolor but i never use it in portrait. May I ask what watercolor did you used in this video? Thanks!
Nice to have a reminder that the initial sketch of features dont have to be that defined at all since the values come in with the watercolor or other medium. Thanks for helping a beginner!
Great video ... 4 years old now but still very worth watching. Never worry about failure ... it's what keeps us striving. If we're not afraid we're not pushing hard enough and our work just becomes mediocre. Stay afraid and stay fresh.
I absolutely love how you do your faces. I started watercoloring late in life and I love it. I right now can only hope to be able to paint faces as you do. Thank you for this tutorial. I just found you recently and I just love your watercolors. Much appreciated. Thanks. Oh and yes I would love more videos like these!
Same here art is my life all forms but especially painting and drawing. Posting your art work may encourage people that also feel hesitant about sharing their work. 😊👍🏾
Well if you do think that someone really would buy your art/you're improvised then give it a try!If you'll ever have one tell me your user i'll try to share and support your account :)
oh my goddard.. Using a crown pen for white highlights. brilliant. I am personally kind of stuck, since i'm an autodidact on what to do in certain situations. The white highlights were one of them until today. i tried white pencils, but you have to push those really hard in order to give off a clear white line, but that often results in breaking off the wips, and having to sharpen them again, and again and again. The softer pencils are hard to do a hard or sharp line with and end up looking blurry. This crown pen is golden. thanks for showing that !! (and the rest as well)
Am I the only one who could be listening him to talk for hours about anything and would find it the most interesting thing in the world? I love how he explains, in addition to his art. One of my favorites channels!
I would like to know where to download paint tool Sai safely ? Like the real version, not the cracked/free one that you find a bit everywhere ^^ And thank you for this tutorial ! You were the first person to make me into watercolours and I will never thank you enough for it ♡ I am really looking forward to what you will do in the future and to how you will grow as an artist ~
All this time I've been drawing with a pencil and too afraid to try and go into colors. I've watched so many video but this video right here I think just made me fall in love with water colors. I'm so stunned wow, honestly I got so into what you were doing that my heart kept pounding watching it !!! Wow what a beautiful thing you did there !
Im new here and just came from your 2016/17 sketchbook tour, i just want to share my surprise when I heard your lively voice. It was quite the opposite of how calm and melancholic your works are. Either way, your artworks are totally amazing and free flowing 💓 imo, youve brought out the best out of watercolors 😁👏
personally i really like cakes, i used the sakura koi pocket field sketch 24 set it comes with a waterbrush which i find very helpful, for tubes reeves is pretty basic and decent :)
Can't express how much I love everything about this video. Bummed that I just found it. How he talks about Art with so much love and passion for it- damn. Can't wait to go back to art during my break. My therapy. 😂❤️
So Beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. My art fears has always been painting people. This will certainly help get over the fear. (In 5 years)
Could be a bunch of things. - do you let things dry completely before working on the next layer? - is your paint prone to lifting? - do you scrub or work heavily on the page? - do you put paint down too thickly? I hope you can figure it out.
you should wait for your first layer to dry and then put your next layer on top. If thats not the problem, it may be the materials you use, e.g. paper, brush, paint
Just starting out on drawing portraits and using watercolors been at it for about a week found your video very very helpful I'm slowly layering and layering and layering and building up my colors thanks for the video man.
Whenever I add another layer after one dries, the paint always lifts up in at least one area and leaves a big splotch of white where the paper under is showing. I tried lifting excess watter thinking that it is caused by excess pooling but it seems like no matter what I do, the layer under messes up the one I'm working on, what do I do? I'm still just starting and I love the medium. I'm still not sure what I should do when this happens or how to avoid it. I often end up overworking the paper trying to solve it
H- Hewwo uwu This could be a case of your materials limiting your progress, when you use high quality watercolours and paper the underneith layers cannot be rubbed off to that degree.
Caitlin Brown I see, I'll have to exparament with them when I can. They were given to me from a friend because she got frustrated with them so I'll look into it. Thank you.
Great tutorial, I have a few questions 1) what are using for the white ink? 2) what are your basic skin colors? I look forward to seeing more tutorials and learning 😊
papercuts I'll have to check when I get home. I'm pretty sure they are pretty cheap because I wanted something to see if I'd like the medium better than acrylics. Thank you for the recommendations!
I am completely inspried Thank you for sharing your talents with the world. To be gifted is one talent. To share your gift with others is yet another precious talent.
your paintings are so pretty!! and listening to you talk is soo fun too! you have such a nice voice and a fun way of talking, it feels like you're an old friend and that makes us so comfortable! I just love your videos
Loved the technique used for painting the realistic faces...!❤️What should a beginner start with to try realistic faces ..? What steps a beginner should follow..? eagerly waiting for next video for the beginners
This was so amazing! I love watching you paint and explain some of your technique... I want to get back into watercolour and especially painting more complex paintings like this.
I have tried many mediums...found soft pastels great for children's portraits....oil paint great for adult portraits.....love watercolor for playing with art. Now, however, I am into graphite for portraits....Just love doing any kind of art with all the above mediums but seem to have seasons as I age....I find watercolor and graphite the easiest and most portable mediums now in my 73rd year....I have loved doing art as soon as I could hold a pencil at age 2.....it's great to keep my mind off things.....I wish you all the best and envy your journey.....get a dog to accompany you on your journey as soon as you can and paint lots of pictures of him or her.....
I really like your art style and this video. I love the way you talk. Your voice is really calming and soothing, not too fast and very clear. Please make more similar videos!!!
Thank you for showing a wet on dry technique to paint faces! I have sketched my first watercolour painting, a very small portrait, and am happy with my pencil sketch, but whenever I try to practice blending colours for shadows before I actually dare to colour my portrait sketch, it goes wrong. That´s because everybody says "use wet on wet method for blending skin tones", but the face is so small that it would get covered in blooms as soon as wet on wet is used. I thought, I have to do it wet on dry, but nobody seems to teach about that. So thank you! Perhaps I will be able to solve it now. Oh, and also I would love to keep my pencil drawing shining through since I really like it, for me it is more like colouring a sketch, not actually painting a portrait with no visible sketch underneath, if you see what I mean. You also leave your sketches shining through, I think this video is exactly what I needed :)!
Wow! :) I finally finished your watercolour art tutorials. I'm currently on my last sem of school now, but I'll be trying out watercolour as my post-graduate plan so that I can relax and paint :D I'm super excited and I've bought some art supplies to prepare for it already. Please upload more tutorials. You've a great voice and you're a really good teacher! :D
i relate to the art friends part. my friends growing up dont understand the joy of painting/drawing & they dismiss it as childish. im happy to be able to go to uni and have friends to paint with and talk about art with
A bit of a different kind of video today! I thought it would be fun and a bit interesting for me to try talking during one of my painting time lapses instead of just having pure music like my normal videos. What do you guys think or prefer?
kelogsloops both!!!!

BRUH WERE THE SAME
Bcuz I'm scared if I have mistakes xD
Me toooooo I’ve had them for months and I haven’t touched them yet
Don't forget to paint with watercolor just in appropriate paper!
You will end up soaking and making holes in a normal paper if you try to watercolor it.
we've all been there lol
Can you do a tutorial on how to mix or get the colors that you want, especially for skin colors? thanks!
Please lol
This would be awesome to see, as this is where I struggle the most with my portraits xx
yes plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Yessssss 🙏🙏🙏
a thousand times yes I need this tutorial

Kelogsloops: you can do hundreds of layers if you want
My paper: uh no don't even think about it
ooo theres watercolor paper thats thicker and stuff!!! i heard taping down the paper helps too :)
i use the windsor and newton paper it is really thick and so good!
@@snakeliker I'm pretty sure its can't take hunds of layers as there's a limit for a thick paper & be practical
@@ddlcp huh
@@snakeliker theyre saying that even watercolour paper cant take a hundred layers since even that has a limit
Omg how do you leave those tiny stunning highlights behind without painting on them? I'm trying so hard and everytime I get a good highlight I destroy it later on by mistake 😂😭 ps. I adore your art SO much
You can use white pens
or frisket!

Exactly my question haha
Ghada Emad Agreed:>
Yes please
up for this
What color u mix for skin tone ?
I have a difficult with color skin sometimes it's work and sometimes not
It's just red+yellow=orange+white=flesh(for me I use flesh as a skin tone and u can add a little bit of blue for more depth) or if you want it reddish or something then just put a bit more red or if you want it to be more darker (darker shade for flesh) then use brown/blue :)
If you don't know how to mix brown it's basically just all the primary colors but if you're failling to do it then here's a tip:
What I usually do:
red+yellow=orange+blue=brown
Blue+yellow=green+red=brown
What I sometimes fail to: (I think it's because I sometimes add too much blue or idrk)
blue+red=purple/violet+yellow=brown
also add a tiny bit of blue so the skin has more depth
If you wanna paint the skin like him then red+white
I use pink and yellow veery diluted for white skintones! But it totaly varies in the environment and the tone of the drawing. For example, sometimes I add a bit of purple/dark blue to make it more gray-ish and on the cool side, or more orange and brown for a tan.
It's a matter of trying. Mix, add color, add different amounts of whater and just try it. And also, take notes from the proportions and what color you used, if you get it wright you might want to replicate it later.
Never use white to make the colors brighter! Use water
I remember watching this 4 years ago this really helped me out thx 👌✨ I'm a big fan of your work and the way you edit your videos
Could you upload a video with you sketching the face? Your linework looks so neat. And your faces are so perfect. So simple, yet so realistic.
Will you do a video on oil painting? I'm really curious!
a hundred times yes! i'm still new to oil, so i think it would be fun to document my learning experience with you guys! haha
He has such a cute voice, I keep getting distracted in this lesson.
I agree..🙈
definitely.....

Ps. At what age did u start drawing or painting?
Yes, it helps.
Thank you✌
@Jade Grant, it doesn’t matter at what age you start, it’s about how long you’ve drawn. Such as drawing daily for a year rather than painting every few times for years
FlyingCookies soooo true 👍🏼
Been following you for ages on Facebook but had no idea you were on UA-cam! I’m so excited! Beautiful work as always
In future videos it would be super helpful if you could include your color palette used for painting skin
watercolor is the hardest medium of paint to do, and you make it look so effortless. WOWWWWW
6:18 thats funny bc i used to have a fish named “dog” HAHAHA rip
He is such a sweet and talented person. Loved watching and listening to him. 😊💓
What colors do you use to paint skin?
Idk if i learnt anything because I was so immersed in your voice. I think I can listen to it forever
does anyone here wanna be my art friend
hii 😴

Me!!!
BEN IVAN Hi! I'm Sky nice to meet you! (please be my friend, everyone I know dosent respect art!)
Great video ... 4 years old now but still very worth watching. Never worry about failure ... it's what keeps us striving. If we're not afraid we're not pushing hard enough and our work just becomes mediocre. Stay afraid and stay fresh.
Your voice is so soft and nice~~ i hope when you upload more youll add more commentary its great
I absolutely love how you do your faces. I started watercoloring late in life and I love it. I right now can only hope to be able to paint faces as you do. Thank you for this tutorial. I just found you recently and I just love your watercolors. Much appreciated. Thanks. Oh and yes I would love more videos like these!
Hi i'm 14. Art its my whole live and i'm going to study arts, but i'm too shy to have any social media and post my drawigs there.
Same here art is my life all forms but especially painting and drawing. Posting your art work may encourage people that also feel hesitant about sharing their work. 😊👍🏾
Whatever you do I’ll support u
SAME
Well if you do think that someone really would buy your art/you're improvised then give it a try!If you'll ever have one tell me your user i'll try to share and support your account :)
Pls.....I would love to watch it😊😊😊
oh my goddard..
(and the rest as well)
pls let me know what kind pen/penvil you use that doesn't mix with water. thank youuuu
for my pencilwork I use STAEDTLER Mars graphite pencils!
+kelogsloops omg thank you very much.
Thank you for this tutorial, so super helpful! Question - are you applying watercolor over graphite here or ink? Thank you!
Am I the only one who could be listening him to talk for hours about anything and would find it the most interesting thing in the world? I love how he explains, in addition to his art. One of my favorites channels!
Hey Heiu! Can you tell your skin tone recipes?
He is so sweet and down to earth and his art is amazinggggg
Person: I just love your art!
Kelog: I love you too.
I really like how Happy you sound when u do the watercoloring.
I would like to know where to download paint tool Sai safely ? Like the real version, not the cracked/free one that you find a bit everywhere ^^
And thank you for this tutorial ! You were the first person to make me into watercolours and I will never thank you enough for it ♡
I am really looking forward to what you will do in the future and to how you will grow as an artist ~
you can get it at www.systemax.jp/en/sai/ but it will cost you about 5400 yen. (the website looks old but its the official)
I downloaded it from deviantart, someone posted their files so others could get it free.
The king of Watercolour revealed his secret! May be just now I can learn.
Damn so beautiful I wish I have talent like you!
RIUKE CH well i think you can reach anything with practice
Lydia _ I have a nice coloring but I can't draw like this
I felt like I was sitting with you and listening to your conversations while drinking my favorite coffee. It was fun. ❤
thank you!
This is by FARRRR the best watercolor tutorial I ve ever encountered!!! Keep it up!
What's the best affordable, beginner watercolor set?
hiiighly recommend koh-i-noor watercolour discs to starting out!
personally i really like cakes, i used the sakura koi pocket field sketch 24 set it comes with a waterbrush which i find very helpful, for tubes reeves is pretty basic and decent :)
I'm using the Windsor and Newton pocketbox set, it comes with 12 colours and a paintbrush, I think it's pretty good.
reeves watercolors are also really good, that's what i used to start off with. hope that helps lol
Thanks!

(In 5 years)
whenever i try to layer, the paint underneath reactivates and lifts :(
Try using synthetic brushes
Could be a bunch of things.
- do you let things dry completely before working on the next layer?
- is your paint prone to lifting?
- do you scrub or work heavily on the page?
- do you put paint down too thickly?
I hope you can figure it out.
you should wait for your first layer to dry and then put your next layer on top.
If thats not the problem, it may be the materials you use, e.g. paper, brush, paint
Maybe it’s gouache?
Eddie Uresti ha, I think you replied to the wrong comment accidentally
I am completely inspried Thank you for sharing your talents with the world. To be gifted is one talent. To share your gift with others is yet another precious talent.
There’s only one problem here for me..
*I don’t know how to draw this good*
Don't be fooled, he's using photos.
@@hd-xc2lz ../j..?
your paintings are so pretty!! and listening to you talk is soo fun too! you have such a nice voice and a fun way of talking, it feels like you're an old friend and that makes us so comfortable! I just love your videos
I know I am two years late, but I think you are afraid of the green color 😂😂
your voice is so calming I fell asleep for an hour at 12 in the afternoon and had a good sleep
how am i even supposed to paint faces when i can't even draw one 😭
anyways your art is beautiful *wipes tears*
love the texture u put in the end on faces and in the black power hair
when your trying to draw but look at others art:
yeah not gonna even bother anymore
Thanks so much for this tutorial! I wonder, do you let each layer dry completely before putting on the next? Or do you always let them mix?
A dog named fish lmaoao
Ashwati Khanduri I wasn’t expecting that name so when he said that I burst out laughing 😭
I've seen this video like 20 times...so soothing to watch the process of painting.
Couldn't peel my eyes away watching you paint is beautiful 😍
These art tutorials make it seem so easy
Loved the technique used for painting the realistic faces...!❤️What should a beginner start with to try realistic faces ..? What steps a beginner should follow..? eagerly waiting for next video for the beginners
This was so amazing! I love watching you paint and explain some of your technique... I want to get back into watercolour and especially painting more complex paintings like this.
I could look at your art forever!
Your videos are the best way to start my morning.
This piece is literally BREATHTAKING😌🤯
i relate to the art friends part. my friends growing up dont understand the joy of painting/drawing & they dismiss it as childish. im happy to be able to go to uni and have friends to paint with and talk about art with
