kelogsloops Oh wow I’m disappointed I thought you only used water from the polar ice caps on mars that had been infused with diamond flakes and served in a crystal bowl
In Australia we don't have access to a lot of art brands (importing to Australia sucks I guess), and so our art stores really only stock Winsor & Newton. I really do wanna try experiment and review different brands of all sorts of materials, so I'd love to hear what suggestions you guys have for companies for me to try out! What do you guys use or recommend?
In all honesty, my favourite brand is Windsor and Newton's. I've been trying to save up for one of the big watercolour pallette and I'm so excited to get one in future! For pencils, I often use Derwent. Love from the UK ❤️
7:48 'masking fluid destroys brushes' I found that if you coat your brush in washing up liquid, lightly wipe it off on a tissue and then use in the masking fluid it doesn't destroy the brush - I still wouldn't recommend doing this with a super expensive brush but I've managed to save one of my favourite brushes using this technique
Oooh, washing liquid, I haven't tried that! I do something similar, but I use brush soap. It works most of the time, but it's still destroyed a few brushes. Gonna keep experimenting until I find the perfect solution to masking fluid
@@kelogsloops I've only recently started using masking fluid in my work but the washing liquid hasn't failed me yet :) It's a shame it destroys brushes though because it's really useful - I remember the first time I used it I was super excited but I unknowingly destroyed a brush. tragic.
i use it a lot and honestly i just buy a shitty pack at walmart? Washing liquid works but if your like me (i can easily forget to wash the brush asap and therefore it drys/permeates the brush) it's nice to just have some shitty brushes for that. Just dip in water and use it til it croaks. But masking fluid can be so fun and help you do so many things!
One of my go-to content creators for markers going to a go-to creator for watercolor? I must be in the right place. This is great content. Helped so much with how I'm choosing my supplies.
I haven't had a legitimate crush on someone in years but, I experience so much infatuation and appreciation for your art, so I'm glad my affection is directed towards something greater LOL
For masking fluid I recommend getting a silicon tip brush, that way u don’t have to sacrifice a brush. Or dip ur brush into some dish soap before u use the masking fluid.
Aaahhhh that small moment of my life is called- happiness 😭 Love it all - ur the reason I started watercolors- gave it up- but now when i see i just miss and want to use watercolors so bad😭✨✨
There’s a sennelier masking fluid with a pin like top, masking fluid comes out from the tip of it, it’s a very thin applicator so you don’t have to use a brush on anything. I recommend it!
Arches is my favorite too! They size their paper to the core, which is why water doesn't just float on top. Most manufacturers only do the surface! The more ya know! 👌
Your art inspires me so much to just sit down and pick up my paints. For a few months, I completely avoided my sketchbook, thinking my skills weren't good enough to get me anywhere. After finding your channel, I have this new confidence in my art. Thank you for doing what you do.
OMG it’s so nice to see a video from you again! I hope you’ve been doing well. Yeah Arches is really good! I’m glad the pads are more affordable to get than the blocks because I love using it for my illustrations. I never tried Trekell before, I should try it sometime and compare them to my Princeton brushes. I use mostly Davinci paints because I got them at a clearance sale but I really do love Daniel Smiths. I have some W&N paints but they are more expensive (mostly the pro paints) than other brands I get here in Canada. Honestly love masking fluid because I’m not as good with doing negative space yet. Gold leaf looks so pretty I hope I can use it one day. Thank you for this video and I hope you upload more soon!
I have a suggestion: if you want to use masking fluid, cover the brush you will use with soap, then dip into it; you will notice it works the same and it's easy to wash away, no damage to your brushes! It's like magic!!!
I've heard so many wonderful things about arches paper. But it is soooo expensive. Thank you though for watercolor sketch book recommendations. Def gonna check those out in the future
You are such a raw and pure artist. I love how natural this video turned out and I appreciate all of the materials you shared for all of us to see. I am interested on how it is that you use gold leaf. Hope you have a wonderful day!!!
Awesome video, ILU for making it :D Also tip for the masking fluid destroying brushes: moist a soap bar and dip the brush into the resulting soapy water a bit, and the masking fluid will easily peel off the brush afterwards :D
Lovely video! You do such a good job showcasing the things you're talking about vs just leaving an image of the tool or medium on screen while you speak. Since you're getting into masking fluid, I have a recommendation that I hope is helpful! I've tried a bunch of different masking fluid brands and they always ruined my brushes and went clumpy before I get the chance to finish the bottle which felt like money down the drain. Then I discovered Fineline Masking Fluid Pens and all those problems vanished with good design. Check them out! They're basically lil squeeze bottles of masking fluid and when you're finished and cap it, a long metal rod slides into the nozzle. This prevents it from getting clogged while also guaranteeing no air gets into the bottle. My one gripe is that sometimes you get bubbles as you apply your mask which can be a pain when you're doing tiny detail work but I'll take that over creating another gumpy brush drawer any day.
this was so fun to watch ? i mostly use prismacolors for my art, so i was completely in awe the whole time , "holy shit you can actually do that with *water*??" lmao thank you for letting me know i might want to try watercolors soon
Hey! I've been watching your videos for quite some time (maybe more than a year) and I enjoy them so much I sometimes go back and rewatch them. I was surprised to see just how many things I already have (the arches watercolour paper, windsor and newton cotman set) and have looked at gold leafs from the exact same company! Though, I've stopped using watercolour since high school, as I used it as the medium for my major for the HSC. Yep, I'm from australia too. Currently enrolled at Uni for graphic design as well. Don't know why I wanted to tell you this but, I thought it was kinda cool how much things we have in common, though, my watercolour skills are.. Definitely not on par to yours. Keep making great videos!!
You're an inspiration. The patience and passion you have for details and exquisite beauty of your art is mind blowing! I do have a question here. I have a recent obsession working with gold leaf as well. I'm still in a starting stage of it so I use imitation gold leaf and silver leaf. Imitation tend to tarnish over time so, how do you seal it with watercolour? Varnish or fixative spray? Please do answer when possible
I have a tip for save the brushes when you use masking fluid: rub your wet brush into soap. Then you can use the masking fluid and when you're done, just wash your brush with water. I hope that helps and that my English make some sense (this is not my first language and I'm still learning)
Oh funny story: I've been following you on Instagram for a while and had no clue that you had a UA-cam channel, or that you're a fellow Aussie! Loving your stuff!
It's so refreshing and lovely to hear how passionate you are about your art. By the way, your technique is amazing and your artworks are some of my favourites by far
Omg yay! I didn’t know you were Aussie! Me too! Woot woot! Love loveeee your work! I so agree about the lack of art materials in Aus and they are so expensive!
I came to the comments to say the same thing! Uniball Signo Broad is amazing!! I found the Gelly Rolls so inconsistent, which is disappointing because I love other Sakura supplies... My Signo hasn't failed me yet!
Question about supplies and techniques, when you’re done sketching out what’s the process with the eyelashes and brows? Would love a video. I’m just starting out with watercolor. Help.
This is one of the best reviews on watercolor supplies woah need to check on those brushes, they seem to be really good ._. also if you don't mind me asking, but how come you don't use any greens? Is it a personal preference? Or do you love blue tones and hues better? I know your works have loads of it, been following your artwork ever since 2016 and am always in love with every masterpiece you create 😍❤ PS: I have the same watercolor pallet hehe best purchase I've ever made 😊
Many people are telling me I must stretch my paper before doing a wet on wet painting to prevent it from buckling. I'm curious what your thoughts are on paper stretching. I honestly think it does nothing.
Is my w&n masking fluid the only one with a horrible smell? I’ve never heard anyone complain so I don’t know if I got a weird one or if it’s normal ahah
i prefer to use gouache not watercolor but not winsor and newton because its expensive with the price of one winsor newton tube i buy a box of 12 gouache tube of the cheaper gouache but i want to know if i can use aquafine papers for gouache instead of watercolor or its only made for watercolor?
Thank you so much for taking time to show us these kinds of things. I have been stressing out trying to find a watercolor sketchbook but not had a clue what to do about it!
get you a man that describes you beautifully like how he describes arches paper 🤣
yessss that’s what I thought when I saw that part lmao
If you need a man for that - you are doing YOURSELF a disservice!!
Oh my god yes
haha very funny jerk
I knew there would be a comment about the arches paper part 😂
Okay but how does this not include what type of water you use >:((((((
i use only the finest of finest sparkling waters that have been infused with cucumber and gold leaf flakes
kelogsloops Oh wow I’m disappointed I thought you only used water from the polar ice caps on mars that had been infused with diamond flakes and served in a crystal bowl
Lol 😂
@Beatriz Morganti she is being sarcastic
@Beatriz Morganti oh ok 😂

kelogsloops have you tried chipotle brand watercolor pencils they’re a bop
@@ArpitaRattan wait, chipotle has watercolor pencils? am i getting punked

Hey, did you choose a winner for your DTIYS competition?
I highly recommend white nights watercolours from Russia.
Good quality and inexpensive, compared to other brands.

Glen Coco you could use those cheap silicone/rubber brushes from red dot.

Try using silican brushes instead
bro, you use REAL GOLD leaves???????? legend
Just an FYI.. They actually aren't that expensive, because the sheets are so thin ;)
His work is so beautiful it's definitely worth 24K gold leaf. I love it! ♡
They're not expensiveee
the watercolor paper he used is much more expensive than the gold leaves
Gold leaf is expensive, but not crazy expensive. You could use fake stuff to practice
I missed your uploads! Hope you’re doing well ❤️
Your art is gourgous. It would be really cool of sometime down the road you could release an art book. Would totally buy it 😊
6:04 EEEEYYYYYY I put my art supplies in a nike box tooooo😂😂
