  • Stumbled with the problem of missing cable to connect MITTLED to 24V power supply. Well turned out to be not a problem, with little hack I can overcome this problem !

    Thanks for the video- Ikea really dropped the ball on their LED lighting- their systems are hard to understand and even in store their is no information to make the whole system work.

    Just dealing with this same thing. I ordered a Silverglans light online for $17. Great deal! Website didn't show it needed anything else. Power supply and controler was $40 so my cheap $17 light became a not so cheap $57 ight. Was pondering cutting the connector off and wiring it to a 12v supply I have for DIY Halloween lighting but need to check required voltage / ma first.

    • @InsideOutElectronics
      @InsideOutElectronics  Рік тому

      Yeah.... But 12v will not cut it, you need 24v.... well at least 20 ( may reuse laptop charging brick from old laptop )

    I can see how people would be confused if they come straight to lighting and pick them up but these are part of the kitchen system. The staff will plan your kitchen out and tell you what to buy. I’d suggest anyone doing these lights go talk to the kitchen staff.

    Do you know if it's possible to cut these down to a custom length? The extrusion should be easy, but not sure about the LED's if that would cause a problem

    Great video! So I’m trying to figure out which side of that connector is + If I look at the mittled from the end with the ikea label on the right side and the led facing up, which side of the connector is + ?

      Thank toy for asking. But it not going to work. You need ikeas wireless dimmer button that will control this. Look for tradfri device

    hey there! I have a question and maybe you are able to help me! I managed to connect two Mittled bars with these red JST-RCY connectors you are using in the video. (I could not use the propprietary Ikea connector, because I needed to install the bars in a 90° angle) Everything seems to work now, but: when I try to add a third bar to the system, using the Ikea-connector, the light starts blinking and then the whole thing crashes (= lights out). I'm wondering if this may have something to do with the voltage or with the type of the wire I am using (22 AWG), but I don't know. Any ideas?

    • @InsideOutElectronics
      @InsideOutElectronics  7 місяців тому

      Yes, could be thing wires OR it can be that you are overloading PSU. What is the power supply wattage and the combined wattage of Mittled bars?

    RMF (read the manual first) - the cable is not included as only one is needed for the entire set of lamps, if you install several of them., max 10. If it would be included with every lamp trash collector (like you with the leftovers of the other lamp) would have more trash to collect.

    It makes sense to not include the cable as most people will run more than 1 and people require different lengths of the cable. People would end up with a lot of cable in lengths they don't need. Guess who would pay for that? Who would be cheated then? :)

    Bought 7 of the 80cm mittleds yesterday with two 30w drivers (60w total), 1x fornimma (power cable from driver to outlet) and the vagdal (mittled to driver). They say you can daisy chain up to 10 mittleds together.. I presume with the one vagdal but it seemed to overload the drivers (flashing lights) no matter what configuration I had. Ended up having to separate the 7 mittleds into two groups, each to their own driver and outlet. Anyone else had a similar project and had the same result? Instructions are quite confusing, and I can’t find anything online that says my config could/couldn’t work. My only guess is, and I’m no electrician, that even though I had two drivers interconnected, each one still only outputs up to 30w. With the single vagdal connecting all 7 mittleds, the drivers don’t evenly supply the 60w of needed power?

    • @InsideOutElectronics
      @InsideOutElectronics  7 місяців тому

      I think you have to have a driver per group I do not think you can daisy chain drivers. Curious what is the wattage on the single panel? I does now say this on Ikea website, unfortunately...

    • @mattle2646
      @mattle2646 7 місяців тому +1

      @@InsideOutElectronics there’s a cable you can get (which I have) that lets you daisy chain the drivers, but I think this just means that all drivers run through one outlet rather than increasing the overall watts. While each driver is 30w, I now don’t think that daisy chaining the drivers means it’s 60w total, it’s just 2x 30w with the benefit of only using one power outlet. You still need to group the mittleds into max 30w combinations

    • @InsideOutElectronics
      @InsideOutElectronics  7 місяців тому

      @@mattle2646 I see, do you if there is an option for single 60w PSU?
