Unbelievable, just a week ago I had exactly the same problem, it was an ACER NITRO 5, the capacitor was short and I immediately removed it and the laptop worked, but the problem occurred when I turned on the charger, the light just flickered and it wouldn't start with charging but I was confused as to how it wants to charge with the power supply, I even asked a question on Discord and posted a video and pictures but no one helped me, in the end I was helped by my thermal camera which showed the first mosfet which was short , I replaced the duck and everything works perfectly :))
I had the same problem with acer predator Helios 300, but the capacitor got burnet and exploded and was obvious... I changed it and changed the power MOSFET too.. is it fine or I shouldn't have replaced the burnet capacitor? I don't want to face the problem again.
It felt awkward the time the capacitor was removed and it drove me crazy to see it with still a short, but I've learned a great lesson as well to be patient and dig more. Big up to you.

I have a repair job that brought me back to school. It's an Acer N17C4 laptop with no fans! Yes it came to me like that and I thought that there was a short somewhere causing it to switch on briefly and off on its own again. I lined up possible causes to BIOS temp settings, which I couldn't find as they aren't there for it, so I'd feel the CPU with the back of my fingers to try and determine if it could be heating. It barely would get warm before power cutting off. Other symptoms are difficulty turning it on, even though it has the orange light for the charger, the blue light would only come on after bashing the keyboard. So while watching this video, at the part where you suspected it could be anything like the touchpad or keyboard that could have a short, I quickly figured that the keyboard's on button is stuck on always depressed, even though the key itself bumps up after pressing it. The minus key seemeed to be the new ON/OFF button, and I suspect some liquid damage to the keyboard. So I'd switch it on and quickly yank out the loose keyboard cable and it stayed on... problem solved. So I'm relieved it's just a faulty keyboard for my client.. You do have excelent troubleshooting skills going over each section and module carefully.

Maybe laptops are changing. Few years ago, standard Sorin’s repair was to bypass Mosfet with a wire. Nowdays this is out of question. So I wonder if it really worked back then, or maybe there were issues not tested like battery not charging etc.
Sorin :) i have "modded" every my multimeter ( also my car seat belts alarm ) to reduce the beep for live streaming :) just place a little bit of hot glue on the buzzers.
Or can be a nice thing if sorin can create a circuit to "lower" the frequency of the beep .. or to control a small relay.. to drive a red lamp ( that can be nice on live streaming )

Best case: nothing Worst case: an overvoltage fault develops on a low voltage rail and the controller now cannot disconnect the incoming supply. Result: the board and processor get fried as 19V goes into the 5/3.3/1.8/whatever rails. It's ok for short term troubleshooting, but is by no means a permanent fix.
I have an Acer Extensa 15 (FH5AT LA-K093P board), it starts normally and boots to windows, then after a while either a black screen or a small square scrambles color line appears , i tried when reaches this state to hook it to an external monitor but nothing and the laptop seems dead , then i turn off and start again the issue reappears there is no specific time to when this happens after booting , i tried to monitor the CPU temperature but its normal , it seems something breaks after a while and then fixes itself then breaks again i doubt of electrolyte capacitors might behave like this but cant figure if it is a capacitor or something else , did you face similar issue or have a guess where to look?

One bad part can trigger a gaggle of parts damage, however rare. That USB bus is notorious for problems. And who knows what consequences can be had by running it without that capacitor.

Two days ago I repaired "hydroponic garden" which did not work. On power supply connector there was sparks. Power supply board of the unit had 2 PWM DC-DC convertors and one chip to control AC pump. To make the story short a DC-DC converter responsible for LED light had a capacitor with impedance of 10 Ohms (it was a tricky one as I did not had power supply without protection). Once the capacitor was replaced the unit came to life.
maybe battery got empty fast until you assembled everything : edit i think its actualy not charging battery if its too low and it gone too low for just that few seconds which you charge it. looks like its problem with charging battery :O or maybe battery is dead. this is all comments in watching video not to the end just commentating :) hehe

Now you see, that sometimes first mosfet cannot be replaced by short wire, because you can get power on issues, or (as you often experienced) laptop will coming on, but it will have a charging issues (which you often didn't check). Now you have proof, about what people were saying in the comments in the past, about that quick mod.
Only newer laptops won't work with jumping mosfet . older laptops work fine and charge fine I bypassed two burned first and second mosfet with burned layers in the motherboard so mosfets couldn't be soldered back . bypassed both with wire from charging port to current resistor and laptop power on and charges fine , HP Probook 650 G1 .
only newer laptops wont work with jumping mosfet.. starting with laptop that use bq24780s charging ic, all laptop that use this ic charging design, we cannot jumping mosfet because the the ic charging bq24780s controlling the enable and disable of first mosfet.. For example, bq24780s PIN acdrv connected to first mosfet gate pin, when the circuit have problem, acdrv will not gve the output 24volt to enable the first mosfet, so when the first mosfet not getting the 24volt from gate pin, the 19volt cannot spread across the circuit.. if u jump, ull make it worst

Nah, i think it is shorting the gate of the mosfet.Maybe it is still ok to be dodgy sometimes by replacing it with a wire if it is open. 😂

If the first mosfet is shorted (like you did with a wire sometimes) why does the motherboard don't come ?
the gate was prob shorted as well, bringing down the power management chip.
