Being a longtime student of his teachings, Gil Scott Heron has opened my eyes to seeing clear in my way of thinking. His legacy lives on through me and my children.
Listen...if you will...to his THE OTHER SIDE....a reversion of HOME IS WHERE THE HATRED IS...recorded in the 1990s. A junkie singing "Mama don't need to see me this way....know me this way...touch me this way...love me this way." It makes me cry every time I hear it.
The ‘ war’ is the fight everyday for young black men, Rip George Floyd . 400 years and nothing has changed, never have so many been shit on by so few. Very poignant song in these sad and dark times.
The tipping point... we’ve been saying that for a few decades now. Things are improving but sadly, I do not believe that this is the ‘tipping point’..... Let’s see if the agenda is still at the forefront of people’s minds in November....
He is worshipped by the Original rappers , he is adored by the Funketeers, loved by all the Blues people. I heard my 1st GSH choon in Wigan Casino 1973 . Ps he is adored by 10000s of Northern Soul people as well . Mega talented , original Wordsmith.
M. Heron. We all miss him as well. Thank you for sharing. Keep an eye on his legacy and let it not get usurped by others who were not there to help him when he needed it most.
We loved your cousin and I wonder what he would have to say about conditions today.i know that it would be something very uplifting.because that was the kind of person he was.we needs some more Gil Scott heron today.and we need them bad.
Gil Scott was a musical visionary .I have been a fan of his since the beginning of his career.Got a chance to meet him in Detroit in the eighties. His music and message still speaking to us in this day and age.
A poet, a troubadour, a prophet, a visionary. Gil brought enlightenment to the discourse on many socio-political and economic subjects of the day. And, to his credit, started the conversation where there was none, but some was badly needed. Rest in peace my brother. The demons you fought may have stilled your voice, but nothing will ever quell your indomitable spirit.🪘 🎹
Also, Those Young and Beautiful Black Brothers were EXCEPTIONAL!!!!!!!! IN THERE MUSIC PLAYING MUSICIANSHIP!!!!!!!! THEY PLAYE D THEIR BUTTS OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
I saw him in concert in 1990 in New York. at SOB'S, he's my "Hero"! And after, I had this wonderful chance to finish the evening in his company .......... I love you for ever
Anyone know more about the origins of this song? I can't see anyother performances or renditions of this song. No album or any instance other than here of this song being played.
Gil, an international treasure. If you and I and the children were taught correctly about the important ones in this world humanity would be so much further alone. Our artist that have not been corrupted are so important.
How is this track unreleased and why does it seem like theres no other recording of this track? Or any info? Please help, or release it, absolutely love this
I have the same question. I can only imagine what a studio version of this may sound like, or perhaps what this song would sound like performed with a different mood. I general, I find it sad and confusing how little footage we really have of someone like Gil.
Gil Scott Heron.....one of America's greatest poets....living or dead.
Along with Dylan.....Miles....Duke Ellington......and a few...very few others.....America's greatest
Prophet
Genius

I don't why, maybe it's the intensity of his performance, the message or both but each time I hear this it makes me wanna cry.
