Fun Fact: Mr Bobinsky’s medal is is a liquidator medal meaning he was active in the clean up of Chernobyl. His blue skin is likely a side effect of all the extra background radiation
Partially the reason, the directors also said that its because of all the beets he eats, which turns your skin blue, similar to how your skin turns orange if you eat too many carrots
@@evanwebb6374 And beets are commonly said to be helpful in dealing with the side effects of radiation exposure (no idea if it's actually true, but I've heard multiple people claim it in reference to Bobinsky).
it's mentioned in the movie that there was an "accident" and Coraline says to her mom "it's not my fault you hit that truck" when her mom points to her neck brace, it's heavily implied that the reason they moved to the pink palace wasn't specifically work related but rather that they had to find somewhere much cheaper due to Mel's (coraline's mom's) medical bills causing a lot of financial issues because of how expensive Healthcare is in the US. Also Miriam Forcible and April Spink are a lesbian couple, that has nothing to do with the paragraph above, I just thought it was neat
Theory about Wybie's Grandma : She won't rent to families with children because she knows about the Beldam, she said that her sister was 'stolen' whilst others think she ran away, but gave up trying to convince others or convinced herself that it was a story she came up with to explain her sister's disappearance. My guess is both of them went to the Other Realm, and whilst her sister accepted the deal, she refused and had to escape.
Fun fact about the writing on the cake: The o in “welcome” has one loop, while the “home” has two. One loop signifies whenever someone is being honest while two loops speaks of dishonesty. There are many other hidden hints like this, such as the other father saying “the piano plays me”, referring to the other mother being in control. A lot of other neat details in this movie!
If you like reading, you should definitely read the book this is based on! Despite being a children's novel, its actually quite a bit darker than the movie in some places. Of course, i dont expect a whole book review video or anything, just thought it'd be something fun you can do in your free time. I haven't read it in years but this one bit sticks with me: "I swear it on my own mother's grave." "Does she have a grave?" asked Coraline. "Oh yes," said the other mother. "I put her in there myself. And when I found her trying to crawl out, I put her back."
Just happened into your channel today. This was a great first experience. Coraline is a great, and creepy movie. Side note. Yes, spiders hunt the prey they've trapped by their vibrations through the web. It's pretty cool.
22:58 "she said that she loved us, but she locked us here and ate up our lives" that line gives me shivers everytime I hear it, also was hoping you'd watch the after credits clip
I'm very late to this video, I just found your channel, but I wanted to let you know in case you see my comment that the calming influence you've had on me today has been invalvuable. I'm 22 and house/bedbound, and lately my disabilities have worsened and I'm finding it so tough. But today you made me smile, and feel a little calmer. Thank you so so much (and thank you for covering one of my favourite films!)
in the book the "lesson" was a bit more direct. whrn the other mr B offered her whatever she wants she responds with "don't you get it, I don't want whatever I want"
Fun fact: In the book, Coraline is British cuz the author, Neil Gaiman is British. Fun fact #2: there are theories that Coraline never actually escaped. In the book, the ghost boy said once he saw the Beldam, he never saw his true mom again.
I'm glad you've decided to continue dipping your toes into the world of stop-motion animation. A common theme with stop-motion is a sort of "camp-fire scary story" vibe. The expressions that they are able to achieve using these figures is amazing and lends so well to the story telling.
I watched the director's commentary for this movie and it was genuinely really interesting. Most things that you see on screen are properly puppeted. Even mostly immobile objects like the doll have tiny wires running through them to give more realistic movements. Considering that the Coraline puppet is only around 7 inches tall, that goes to show just how much work went into production. Coraline herself has upwards of 1000 individual facial expressions from what I remember.
First time seeing you, I adored the reaction! Coraline especially holds a place in my heart, so seeing first time reactions to it always tickle me pink. There;s so many little bits about the movie that I'm sure everyone already pointed out, but something that might not have been brought up is the graphic novel that's based off the book! Very different feel than the movie, at least to me, and a bit creepier in my opinion. The other Mother especially freaks me out in the graphic novel, but the movie version is just iconic to me. If you're into stop motion animation, Kubo and the Two Strings + Isle of Dogs are both top notch in my opinion. Thanks for the reaction!
There are theories that say everyone in the film is actually dead. Mr Bobinsky died of radiation poisoning, ms pink and forcible died of disability and old age, wybie from falling down the well and the Jones family from the car accident. Whybie's grandmother finally passes and joins them in the end. Pink Palace is purgatory, the garden is heaven and the other place is hell. Coraline helping to set those souls free helped her and her family souls move on to heaven. Not sure how much of this is all true but I think it's all very fascinating and creepy indeed.
"Coraline" is one of those movies that scared me as much if not more, as an adult rather than when I was a child! MAN, it's so good but so disturbing. Back when kids movies didn't treat their audience like "kids" lol. Love your channel! Subscribed! :)
Coraline is my favorite movie, I watch it all the time over and over. I even bought Coraline things to decorate my room with!! So seeing your reaction is refreshing, someone who doesn’t know about the movie. Reminds me of my first time 💙💙
My niece and nephew love this movie. One of our favorites that we watch every Halloween! Ive always loved stop motion, its because of the hard work put into them that makes them go all out, as a result are even more special. Its definitely a starter horror movie. My niece and nephew now love all scary movies.
I love all your reactions it’s like you know exactly what your viewers want you to watch.😊 I have a great recommendation. “Marley and me.” If you have t watched it. It’s about a dog and it’s life with owners. The dog is a lot to handle but so loving I know for a fact you will love it ❤ thank you for your time on reacting and editing we all appreciate you so much
The book this movie is based on is so creepy!! It was almost not even published had it not been for one brave little girl who read it first. She lied and said she wasn’t scared all because she wanted to know what would happen next. Spoilers: For one thing the tunnel is a living entity. When Coraline was escaping with the ghost children and her parents, the book describes the tunnel as covered in fur and it was moving like it was breathing. Coraline touches the wall and it felt wet and sticky as if she put her hand in something’s mouth. 😨
my fav movie of all time, watched it in 2009 when i was 6 in 3d all alone lol. i was scared but loved it! also appreciated the Michigan rep. love these reviews/reactions!
I'm loving your reaction videos ❤ May I ask if you do your own editing or have help? I've been interested in making reaction videos but am unsure how to get started. Great content!!
Thank you! My husband does most of the editing. I am slowly learning myself. There are a lot of good videos on UA-cam on how to start reaction channels. A phone and editing software is enough to get started. DaVinci Resolve is free and has a fairly easy learning curve my husband said. I hope to see a reaction of yours soon! 🤗
youre the first reactor to remember that she had to go back through the tunnel since she crawled through during the day the 3rd time. As an ultimate fan of this movie since i was 7, and have watched so many people watch and react to this movie, I have never caught that fact.
Coraline is an allegory to drug addiction. She is unhappy in her reality and finds a way to escape, but every time she escapes to that fantasy world it is harder to return. In the end she manages to win with the help of others who have gone through the same thing (the spirits of the children) who help her close the door.
Amazing reaction to this film! It’s literally the best family horror film that quite a dark and twisted yet humorous and entertaining. If you loved this, I must recommend Monster House, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Hocus Pocus 1-2. 😆😇😱😈🪡🐈⬛🖤💛💙🩷 𝙵𝚞𝚗 𝙵𝚊𝚌𝚝𝚜: * Beldame means an old woman, a malicious and ugly woman; especially an old one, a witch. * When the Other Father is “playing” the piano, his song is a warning to Coraline about the Other Mother’s true nature. * If you listen to the Other Mother when she hums, she is literally singing the lullaby from the beginning. That is a good guess! So spooky!😯
Not really a theory, that is exactly what happened
we need a coraline prequel of wybie's grandmas backstory.

I suspect that Coraline was screwed as soon as she ate in the other world. That's traditional, for faerie stories.

Same with “but I remember my true mommy :(“ the ghost children were so hauntingly sad (pun intended)
