    On this episode of Embroidery Hub, Laura goes over how to make custom embroidered patches on our Ricoma commercial embroidery machine the 1501-TC. In this patch embroidery tutorial, you'll learn how to make custom iron on patches from scratch with seamless edges with a few easy steps on an embroidery machine. Creating patches for clothes is a great way to embellish you garments for business, gifts, or even just for yourself!
    How to make custom embroidered patches is a common question that we receive so on this episode we go over how to make a fabric patch that can be ironed on. There are a few ways to attach patches, but iron on patches are one of the most common ways and it also makes for a simple process.
    To go along with the rising interest in bitcoin, we chose to create an iron on patch with the bitcoin logo as the design. After digitizing the bitcoin logo as a patch, we then embroidered the bitcoin patch on an embroidery machine. After embroidering the patch, we then cut out the bitcoin design and hooped some water soluble backing. After embroidering a running stitch on the hooped water soluble backing, we then placed the bitcoin patch on the water soluble backing after spraying some adhesive spray on the design and aligned the patch to the running stitch that we had embroidered.
    After placing the bitcoin embroidered design on the water soluble backing, we finished embroidering the tack-down stitch which seals the edges. At this point all that is left is to apply the iron on adhesive. Once the iron on adhesive is applied, you then can iron on the patch onto a garment.
    If you have any questions or comments regarding the process let us know below. Also, feel free to discuss the topic of bitcoin or crypto currencies if you have anything to add! If you don't understand it or if you are a supporter let us know!
    Also if you would like to download the bitcoin patch design that we used and would like to follow along with the video or just make the patch on your own, we have made the bitcoin patch design available for all! Great video! I wonder if we could just embroider the patch directly on 3 layers of the clear WSS?

    If you're going to immediately apply it, why not use a fusible interfacing instead of the water soluble stabilizer?

    I love your videos and UA-cam channel I have a friend that wants to make a bookmark where it’s embroidered with a feather on one side and the other side has the persons name on it I’ve watched numerous videos I have not had success from what I’m gathering if I did it your way I would embroider both designs and then cut out. Then bond together and then stitch out outline and lay on top and sew final border. Is it too much fabric

    It would be great to have a step by step on how to set up your Ricoma machine and .dst file for this process of creating patches. Do you have anything similar?

    What is the point of using the water soluble backing if it just gets teared off? Couldn't you just finish the satin border on the original fabric and apply the heat n bond straight to it?

    • @carlytorres21
      @carlytorres21 6 років тому +1

      I am wondering the same. Dont understand why you need water soluble

    • @sdlorimor
      @sdlorimor 5 років тому +3

      You can, but since you can't clip the cloth exactly next to the thread you'll still have a little ring of fabric surrounding the patch. You also have to apply Fray Check or a similar product to prevent the fabric from fraying. Either way, it's not nearly as nice of a border as the way they're doing it, which in turn isn't as nice as a traditional Merrowed border (which requires specialized equipment).
      I've been doing it the way you suggest then using a heat knife to cut the edge of the fabric. The heat knife seals the border to prevent fraying, but it significantly more labor intensive.

    where do youbuythe heat and bond

    • @sdlorimor
      @sdlorimor 5 років тому

      Michael's sells it. They have two versions: Heat n Bond Lite and Heat n Bond Ultra. Lite has less adhesive. Both are quite cheap -- about $10 for 5 yards of material. Michael's always has coupons to buy it for cheap, as well as periodic online sales.

      Joann Fabrics also has it. You can by it in a package or by the yard. It is usually cheaper by the yard. Just make sure the cutter rolls it instead of folding it.

    Just order these custom made from china. Cheaper and less time consuming. This is a great idea when you are doing a few to maybe 10 custom made “need it tomorrow” jobs.
