note, there has largely been peace and balance between the nations so it's unlikeky that a past Avatar has been seriously threatened. All past Avatars before Ang have had the opportunity to be completely trained in all 4 elements.

Can someone that is able to get messages through to The Normies suggest that they react to the Book Trailers? Season 2 was a good trailer and Book Three is awesome. I don't think they read the comments on here but if someone has gotten to them somehow.
Every time I watch the scene where Roku explains the avatar state to Aang I get chills.... I don't know who voices Roku but there is something in is voice or the way he says those lines that moves me... And every time I see this Avatar cycle being represented I am in complete awe, it's so symbolic and meaningful. You can't tell me it's JUST a kids show....

Lol The favoritism between both of their parents, Azula being born a prodigy and everyone having higher expectations of her, her Father raising her to be a cold blooded killing machine that her mother absolutely hated, her sociopathic mindset that had everyone fear her and not having and real friends that loved her for herself, but that only did what she said cuz they feared her. Her lack of compassion and empathy that eventually tore at her soul, especially after she had driven everyone away and had no one in the end
@@jonathanacosta36 Season 3 builds you up to feel sorry for azula in the finale. It works on most people. Even these guys feel sorry for her.

@@chupapi7620 The whole background story of zukos family is sad tbh. The only i really can't find redeeming qualities for is Ozai himself. Selfish and egomaniac from the get go, even Sozin who started the war at least had some twisted ideals about the wealth and superiority of the fire nation being "shared" with the world, he just believed conquest was the only option to do so. Ozai on the other hand only cares about his ego and power.

In Japan, cutting off your topknot, like how Iroh's hair is styled, has various meanings. Usually nothing good. It was done by samurai and usually showed a decline in status and power. Sometimes dishonor. Sometimes defeat. And if anyone but you did it to you, it's disrespectful and meant to shame you. Other cultures have similar beliefs and meanings.
In the Fire Nation, they seem to hold that hair style in high regard since so many replicate it. Especially those in high authority. By cutting off their hair, it's a symbol of many things. 1.) They've lost whatever honor they had left. 2.) They have 'abandoned their people' in the eyes of the royal family and army. 3.) They're in need of new appearances because they are refugees now.

To add on to this a bit many native tribes would cut their hair as a way to show atonement or to express a desire to change
It’s kinda crazy how there’s no sort of explanation in the story of ATLA about cutting off the hair, yet the entire scene, you can tell it has significant meaning

If they just left the show as is.... it would be PERFECT.
Kora was a HORRIBLE avatar. Also the ending was SO forced and unesseary.
@@yme3267 I don't wanna disrespect the writers because they legit got fucked over by Nickelodeon. They were told that the first season was gonna be the only one then they had to make up season 2 (which I find the weakest) on the spot pretty much. But yeah, Korra was plagued by a weak cast and an unfocused narrative. Mako and Bolin needed a lot more to do, but they really didn't get any development like og team avatar. Mako is just the new firebender and Bolin is Sokka without the character growth into a confident leader.

@@IAMvonte-2518 I feel like If the writers had time to plan for multi-season arcs like they did for ATLA, then the show could have been great. The love triangle stuff was really just there because they didnt really have a plan for the cast I believe.
I'm rewatching this and I've watched Blind Wave and I find it interesting that everyone is so confused about Kyoshi's core nation/bending. When I watched this as a child it was pretty obvious to me that she was from the Earth kingdom. Plus they talk about reincarnation and she was literally right after Avatar Kuruk. Maybe it's because things are so simplified for kids. She had green clothes.
Azula is definitely one of the best characters in this series. So hyped!
Now shit gets serious. Definitely changed from a kids show to early-late teen show. Loving all this so happy you guys are really getting into it now, finally drinking the kool aid.
I think its more a kids show with amazing 'deepness' to the stories for the parents and teenagers watching it with them :)

brit they kinda already spoiled it for themselves when they bought avatar shirts and one of them had a picture of toph. you'll see what I mean in later episodes.
they are already past episode 6 when they got those shirts. They had already uploaded episode 6 when they received those shirts. If you go on their patreon you will see.
soccernicholas6 they were wearing it during the 5th episode of season 2 meaning they haven't met toph yet until the next episode. With the shirt they kinda had an idea that there would be another character in the group which didn't give a good shock value. Plus Navi as always gives out too much info sometimes when she watches with them.

The avatar will seize to exist if they are killed in the avatar state. When their eyes are glowing and stuff. Avatars have lost and died. They just weren't killed when the avatar state was activated

The power of the undiluted avatar spirit cannot be harnessed for national or personal gain, no matter what side of the war you're on. Only a fully realized avatar can bring balance back to the world. So no, Aang could not just rush in to fight the fire lord.
And we learn that just murdering the Fire lord wasn't the best route either. It was better to teach the Fire Nation a little peace

The online discussion after the finale first aired, was full of people saying that Aang was officially too OP, and that avatar state was essentially an atom bomb that could be pointed at the Fire Nation at any time. I was so happy that they addressed this right away. Almost like they knew in advance how the nitpickers were going to react.

Idk if this might count as spoilers, but the origin of the original Avatar is explained in Legend of Korra. Which you guys HAVE to do after A:TLA ends. It's a lot darker and more mature in theme.

Me: ...Her name is Kyoshi. The warriors are named after her, the island is named after her, they said it in the episode. I find it so interesting how so many people remember her name but forget she belongs to it.

Azula! Her fire is blue, which may be how they named her..."Azul" is blue in Spanish. and the water necklace Katara got was water from the Spirit Oasis (where the Koi spirits lived). It has "special properties"

did you guys notice how none of the other avatars shown stayed in the avatar state for more than a second? it was more like they quickly gleaned what they needed and then went back to normal, keeping the cycle safe. aang's the only one who says in it for a prolonged period (so far. idk about legend of korra)
I actually think that is because they can control the avatar state and just use it to give them a "boost". Aang cant control it, everytime he goes into avatar state he activates beast mode.
18:50 Bang on the money. Basically, Book 1 is worldbuilding-driven, Book 2 is plot-driven, and Book 3 is character-driven (which is, incidentally, a fantastic way to plan out a three-season series).
Of the three seasons, Season Two is 100% the most emotional.
Not to be a dick but many Avatars lived in peaceful times where they were at little danger, it´s not like wars are going on all the time. Also take into consideration how long people in this world live, I believe Kyoshi reached 200, or even 230 before dying. So it´s not 100s of years but thousands, maybe even a lot more than that. Love your enthousiasm by the way, Azula making lightning is one of the best "holy shit" moments in the series because it shows just how powerful she is.

One of my favourite visuals from this show is where Roku explains the Avatar cycle. All of his past lives line up into infinity, and then Roku, on the very end, just *turns his head* to look at Aang. It's SO badass (and truly chilling). I get goosebumps everytime...
question is...the avatar state being the most powerful and most vulnerable...how do we know the avatar will cease to exist if he dies, if its never actually happened? did a spirit tell them?

Very first avatar is explained in avatar Korra very late. So if you’re interested it has something to do with the source of all bending and spirits.

Where have you been in all my life? I was binging on childhood cartoon scenes then to ATLA cut scenes and slowly I found you guys. And decided to start watching your reactions from Book One and after that I have been addicted to your Avatar reaction videos it felt great seeing others same reaction as mine to a certain scene and I felt like I was watching with good ol friends during some really cool scenes and we all awe together. When I was re-watching this episode, I swear, I got a bit misty eyed at that trip he made with Roku and him explaining stuff about the Avatar state. That was pure nostalgia, depth of story and beautiful music.. I get chills when scenes like that happen
